Chapter 56

Kathie's words snapped Clayton back to reality just in time; he almost revealed her identity.

Clayton smiled and replied, "Dr. Cavendish, can't wait for our next surgery together."

Kathie nodded knowingly. "Alright, the patient's stable now, so we're heading out."

"Thanks for all your hard work today," Clayton said, admiration clear in his eyes. If only he could get Kathie, the Miracle Doctor,to work at his hospital.

Randy stepped forward. "Kathie, I really appreciate what you did."

Shirley immediately cut in, "Why are you thanking her? The real credit goes to Dr. Watson and Dr. Brooks. With her limited skills, she was just an assistant. Plus, Mom fainted because of her; sheshould be held responsible."

Kathie couldn't help but retort, "Shirley, don't get things twisted! Ms.Foster did have a relapse, but blaming me is just because I wouldn't let your mom off the hook."

Shirley's intentions were exposed, but she refused to admit it. "If you hadn't scared Mom, she wouldn't have relapsed so quickly."

Kathie countered, "If you hadn't pushed her to confront me, none of this would have happened."

Randy grabbed Shirley's hand. "You told my mom to go see her?"

Shirley panicked and explained, "Mom wantedI to resolve the divorce issue since it was dragging on. I didn't expect it to turn out like this." Randy's eyeswere filled with disgust. "You're always stirring up trouble and blaming others. I really misjudged you."

Kathie pulled Bradley away, not wanting to listen to their argument.

"You must be exhausted. Let me treat you to dinner," Bradley said, his eyes full of concern. She hadn't stopped for hours during the high-stakes surgery.

Kathie rubbed her wrist. "It's been a while since I did surgery. I'm a bit tired."

Bradley genuinely admired her. "Your hands are still so steady. With you around, there's hope for the medical field."

Kathie smiled warmly. "If you keep praising me like this, I'll get a big head."

They walked out of the hospital, chatting and laughing. Not far away,Ben captured the moment and sent the photo toJonathan.

When Jonathan saw the photo, he almost jumped out of his wheelchair, but his legs weren't healed yet.

He grabbed a cup from the table, ready to throw it, but the image of an angry Kathie flashed in his mind, so he reluctantly put it down.

Annoyed, he immediately called Ben. "What's going on?"

"Mr. Jonathan Berkeley, I'm not sure. I was at the hospital with Mr.Harold Berkeley and happened to see Dr. Cavendish and Dr. Brooks. I didn't have time to greet them," Ben replied.

So,shesaid she had something to do, and it was to meet Bradley. She really made him angry.

"What happened to Harold?"

"There was a disturbance at the branch office. Mr. Harold Berkeley went to stop it and got injured."

Jonathan frowned, his anger rising. "The branch office is acting up? Are Gerald and the others useless? They can't handle this?"

Ben sighed, "Mr. Jonathan Berkeley, things are chaotic everywhere. It feels like there's someone pulling the strings behind the scenes. If you don't come back soon, we might not be able to control it."

When the strong were absent, the weak tried to seize control. It seemed Jonathan had been quiet for too long and needed to step in.

"Get ready. I'll be back at the office tomorrow," Jonathan said.

Ben was relieved. Getting Jonathan to return to the office had been a struggle.

Jonathan wanted to see who was being so bold.

"Jonathan, I sent over a silk comforter. It should help you sleep better tonight," Patricia said, still preparing for their stay.

Jonathan waved her off. "No need. I'm heading back tomorrow."

Patricia and Henry exchanged glances, then clapped excitedly.

"Finally! You're going back. I'll help you pack." Patricia said.

Jonathan added, "I'm just going back for work. I'll be returning here."

Patricia was stunned into silence.

Her emotions were on a rollercoaster. She couldn't understand Jonathan's actions more and more.

Henry reminded him, "Jonathan, I heard there's a lot of unrest at your company. You should be careful. I think you should stay there to keep things under control."

This was another way to push him to stay, but Jonathan wasn't buying it. "I know what I'm doing. You all go back and stop bothering me," he said.

Patricia wasn't giving up. "Henry and I will go, but we'll leave a caregiver to look after you."

She couldn't let Jonathan and Kathie be alone.

Jonathan's sharp gaze swept over her, and he spat out a short command."Everyone out!"

Patricia was furious but didn't dare show it. "Jonathan, I just..."

Her words were cut off by Jonathan's glare, and Henry quickly stepped in to smooth things over. "This place is too small for so many people.Jonathan, you rest well. I'll take them back."

Henry pulled her away, and Patricia left, feeling wronged and tearful.

"Henry, I've done so much for him. Why can't he see my worth? He only thinks about Kathie," Patricia said.

"Kathie is no ordinary woman. She has him wrapped around her finger."

"I don't care. Jonathan can only be mine," Patricia said, her eyes filled with determination.

"Then you'll have to work harder."

Since Jonathan wasn't listening to them, they had to find another way.

At the restaurant, Bradley ordered all of Kathie's favorite dishes.

"You worked hard today. Eat up," Bradley said. Kathie looked at the spicy dishes and asked curiously, "I remember you prefer milder flavors."

Bradley smiled as he served her. "I can handle some spice. You usually avoid it for the kids' sake. Now you can enjoy it."

That was true. Her kids were too young for spicy food, so Kathie often made a separate dish for herself.

But it was a hassle, so she gradually adapted to their diet. She didn't expect Bradley to remember her preferences.

Kathie was touched. "Having a thoughtful friend like you is a blessing."

Bradley felt a pang of sadness but continued to serve her naturally. He had wanted to take care of Kathie for a long time, but she got married before he could express his feelings.

He changed the subject. "Kathie, our hospital received an invitation for a research project. I'd like you to join."

Kathie put down her fork. "Are you talking about the international medical research project? I saw it online."

Bradley nodded. "Five hospitals in the country are participating, and Eldoria has three spots. I believe you're more qualified than I am for this."

Kathie hesitated. "Research projects take a lot of time. You know my current situation."

Bradley understood. "Driving the kids back and forth every day is exhausting for you and them. You should make plans. If you need help finding a place, I can assist."

Kathie had considered this. Her villa in the suburbs was over an hour from the kids' school, which was inconvenient. Her grandmother had asked her multiple times. It seemed she should move the kids back to be with her grandmother.

"You're right. I've been thinking about it." Kathie replied.

"I still hope you ll join the research project. It offers a substantial bonus and exposure to international medical fields, which would benefit you."
