Chapter 54
Kathie couldn't help but laugh at Kaitlyn's nerve. If Kaitlyn wanted to be rude, she shouldn't expect any courtesy in return.
"What makes you think you can boss me around? If you wanna see me,you can come find me yourself. Then I'll decide if I feel like seeing you,"Kathie retorted.
Kaitlyn was livid. "You're still my son's wife, and you dare talk to me like this? You have no manners!"
Kathie shot back, "The woman living with your son now is Shirley. To me,you're just a stranger."
Kaitlyn had hoped to use her status to intimidate Kathie, but she failed right from the start. Kathie wasn't having any of it, so Kaitlyn had to change her approach.
She softened her tone. "I won't take up much of your time. I'll be waiting for you at the café."
Kathie didn't want to stay in the house with Jonathan and the others anyway, so she agreed. "Fine, send me the location."
After hanging up. Kathie turned to Jonathan. "I have to go out for a bit."
Jonathan was a little upset. "You just got back, and now you're leaving again?"
Everyone in the room was surprised that Jonathan was concerned about such a small matter.
"I have personal business. You don't need to know," Kathie replied.
Was she going to see another man? Jonathan fel a surge of anger."When will you be back?" "You have company here. What are you worried about? I won't be back for dinner. Handle it yourself."
"Dr. Cavendish, don't forget, I paid for your care."
Kathie nodded. "I remember. I'll bring you sometakeout. Just stay home."
Patricia frowned, her nails digging into her palm. How could Kathie speak to Jonathan like that? And why wasn't Jonathan angry? What was their relationship?
Henry listened to their exchange, convinced they were bickering like a couple. Their relationship was clearly not ordinary.
After Kathie left, Patricia couldn't hold back any longer. "Jonathan, she just left you here and told you to stay home. She has no respect for you."
Henry agreed. "She's being unreasonable. We can't trust her."
But Jonathan smiled. They didn't understand. Kathie only spoke like this to people she cared about. If she truly distanced herself, she wouldn't say such things. Kathie's feelings for him hadn't changed; they were even deeper.
Aurora Café.
Kaitlyn sat by the window, waiting. She saw atall, beautiful woman outside, looking like a movie star. If only her son's wife looked like that.
But when the woman approached, Kaitlyn was shocked to realize it was Kathie. In the past, Kathie had poor skin and a slim figure, completely unremarkable. Now, she had surprisingly become radiant and enchanting.
No wonder Randy didn't want a divorce. Kathie was indeed attractive, but she wasn't a pure woman.
Kathie maintained basic courtesy as a junior. "Mrs. Berkeley, wha t do you want?"
Kaitlyn motioned for her to si. "Kathie, I'll get straight to the point. You have occupied the position of Randy's wife for four years, making Bob a bastard. Now that he's in school, this needs to be resolved."
Kathie smiled. "How do you plan to resolveit?"
Kaitlyn was displeased. "Divorce, of course. You just want money, right?Name your price. I'll meet it."
Kathie shook her head. "I want more money than you can afford."
Kaitlyn slammed the table. "Just tell me how much you want!"
Kathie thought for a moment and held up three fingers. Kaitlyn scoffed and sipped her coffee. "You want three million dollars? That's a lot, but for my grandson,we'll pay it."
Kathie shook her head. "No, you misunderstood. I want three humdred million dollars."
Kaitlyn choked on her coffee. She couldn't believe Kathie, so young, would demand such an outrageous amount.
"Are you crazy? Why don't you just rob a bank?" Kaitlyn was stunned.
"You asked me to name a price. Looks like I did scare you."
"You're impossible."
Kaitlyn's coughing worsened, her face turning red. Shirley, hiding behind a screen, rushed out to help her. "Mom, are you okay? I told you, she's a greedy, malicious woman, just trying to provoke you."
"She's... too much..." Kaitlyn continued to cough uncontrollably.Shirley turned to Kathie. "You're heartless, saying such things to upset Mom."
Kathie was puzzled. "I just answered her question. How is that wrong? And you've been hiding, watching. Isn't this the outcome you wanted? Are you trying to harm her?"
Shirley denied it. "I don't have such evil thoughts. I just want a title. Mom kindly stepped in to helpme, and now you've harmed her."
Shirley hated Kathie for not letting her mother go, so she seized every chance to attack Kathie.
Kaitlyn's coughing grew severe, her face pale, breathing rapid, as if an old illness had flared up.
"Call an ambulance." Kathie said.
Shirley kept arguing. "If anything happens to her, we won't let you off."
Kathie ignored her and tried to call for help, but Kaitlyn's condition worsened, her body going limp, starting to convulse.
Shirley was startled and tried to help Kaitlyn, but Kathie stopped her."Don't touch her."
The crowd grew, and Kathie waved them off. "Everyone, step back." Then she turned to the staff. "Open the windows for ventilation."
The staff quickly complied, keeping people away and waiting for the paramedics.
Shirley saw Kaitlyn convulsing and her eyes filled with hatred. "Kathie, you're trying to kill Mom. You're so cruel."
Kathie didn't respond. She saw Kaitlyn's weak breathing and checked her.Kaitlyn had a sudden cardiovascular issue, a critical situation, and couldn't wait for the paramedics.
Kathie took out acupuncture needles from her bag. Shirley screamed,"
Kathie, what are you doing? Are you trying to kill her?"
Kathie began the acupuncture, and Shirley called Randy.
Randy answered, hearing Shirley's frantic voice. "Randy, Kathie is trying to kill Mom."
Randy was confused. "What are you talking about?"
Shirley exaggerated. "We're at Aurora Café. Kathie said things to provoke Mom. Now Mom is collapsed and convulsing. Kathie's doing acupuncture on her. I think she's trying to kill her."
Randy knew Kathie hated them. Was she really trying to harmn his mom?
"I'm coming right over. Keep an eye on her," he replied.
Shirley hung up, her eyes filled with malice. If Kaitlyn, who always looked down on her. died at Kathie's hands, it would save her a lot of trouble.
Shirley silently prayed that Kathie wouldn't save Kaitlyn.
After the acupuncture, Kaitlyn suddenly gasped for air. The crowd applauded, but Shirley's face fell. Kaitlyn was alive again.
