Chapter 53
Kathie shut the door, not wanting to see Shirley outside.
Jonathan glanced over. "Want me to get rid of her?"
"No need, she'll leave on her own." Kathie had made her point clear enough. If Shirley had any sense, she'd get lost quickly.
Jonathan poured her a glass of water. "Here, drink some water. Don't let people like her get to you."
Kathie noticed he hadn't changed a bit, still thinking of himself as Seven.
"Thanks. We're out of spices at home, I'll go to town and get some," she said.
Jonathan nodded. "Drive safe."
Kathie gave a helpless smile. Their interactions were so much like a married couple.
As soon as Kathie left, the Stewart siblings' car arrived.
Jonathan saw they had brought two caregivers with them, feeling both frustrated and angry. He had made it clear yesterday, yet they still took advantage of Kathie's absence to try and take him away! Henry knew his decision wouldn't change, but they still defied him, risking exposure to his enemies, and came back to forcibly take him away.
"Why are you here again? Did you think I was joking yesterday?"Jonathan's voice was tinged with anger.
Patricia hurried forward to explain, "Jonathan, don't be mad. We're just ·worried about you. I brought professional caregivers. After all, Dr.Cavendish is a woman and has to take care of her children. She can't possibly have the energy to look after you too." Jonathan's face remained cold. Who needed their concern?
"Dr. Cavendish is taking good care of me," Jonathan replied.
Henry continued to persuade, "I still suggest you come back with us for a proper check-up. This place isn't suitable for recovery."
"I'm recovering well." Jonathan trusted Kathie's medical skills.
Henry pointed to the herbs in the yard. "Is she giving you those herbs?"
Jonathan nodded. "She's a healer."
Henry sighed. "Healers are outdated. If I were treating you, you'd probably be walking by now."
Jonathan couldn't tolerate anyone questioning Kathie's skills. He lifted his foot slightly. "I had both legs broken, a spinal injury, and multiple fractures. She fixed them all. Can you guarantee you'd have me in this condition in such a short time?"
Henry was silent,shocked.
If what Jonathan said was true, it only proved Kathie's medical skills were exceptional.
But Henry didn't believe it. No healer could be that good. Jonathan must be exaggerating to stay here.
"Let's not talk about that. Her character is questionable. I heard she has a husband but had children with another man. She doesn't even know who the father is. That says a lot about her character," Henry said.
Jonathan glared at him. "You shouldn't be saying things like that."
Jonathan was only slightly angry about their attempt to take him away, hearing HHenry slander Kathie made him question his character. A truly knowledgeable and insightful wealthy elite should not, like Henry, casually inquire and. after hearing a few distorted facts, slander Kathie in front of Jonathan. This proved Henry's character was questionable, and his intelligence was also in doubt.
"Jonathan, I'm afraid she's deceiving you. With your special status, if she clings to you, you might never get rid of her." Henry insisted.
He thought Kathie was too cunning, even managing to win over Jonathan, who usually kept his distance from women.
Jonathan's face grew darker. Patricía quickly pretended to be understanding. "Henry, don't say that. Dr. Cavendish saved Jonathan, so she's our benefactor. We should repay her."
Patricia signaled Henry to stop talking and not ruin the atmosphere.
Henry fell silent, and Patricia moved behind Jonathan to massage his back.
"Jonathan, I'm working on a new song and found inspiration here.I promise I won't disturb you," she said.
No matter what, Patricia didn't want Jonathan and Kathie to be alone.
Henry chimed in, "Patricia canceled all her work to find you. Now that she has inspiration, let her stay."
Jonathan's patience was wearing thin, his anger about to erupt.
Patricia picked up a photo frame, touching the three small faces in the photo.
"Jonathan, these kids are so cute. They even look a bit like you," Patricia said sweetly, but she was worried inside.
Jonathan's unique looks were unmatched in Eldoria. How did Kathie have three kids who resembled him? Hearing about the kids, Jonathan's eyes softened. "They're not only cute but also very well-behaved."
Seeing his tone soften, Patricia asked, "Jonathan, can I look around? This place seems interesting."
These people really didn't respect Kathie. What right did they have to tour her and her kids home?
Surprisingly, Jonathan, perhaps thinking of himself as the man of the house, agreed. Patricia arrogantly began to wander around.
Patricia looked around disdainfully, thinking, 'These rooms are small and old, worse than the servants' quarters at Jonathan's house. How could he stand this place?
Patricia despised the place but was willing to stay to keep Jonathan.
Henry kept trying to change Jonathan's mind, worried about his connection with Kathie.
"Jonathan, you haven't had a proper hospital check-up since your injury. To avoid hidden issues, I suggest a full body exam," Henry continued to persuade.
Jonathan was indifferent. "Dr. Cavendish has checked me. She knows my condition."
Henry frowned. What had Kathie given him to make him side with her?
"You need to trust science," Henry replied.
"Isn't my check-up scientific?" Kathie asked from the doorway.
.Kathie had just entered and heard Henry questioning her skills. These modern doctors always looked down on healers. Henty was dismissive. "Dr. Cavendish, it's the age of technology.Medical machines are more accurate."
Kathie smiled calmly. "Mr. Stewart, healer methods are the oldest in my country, treating patients for thousands of years, no less effective than machines."
"Do you have a medical license? Which hospital do you work at?" Henry arrogantly asked.
Kathie shrugged. "No, I'm just a wandering healer. Working at a hospital is too tiring. I'd rather travel and maybe find a few like Mr. Berkeley. Then I'd be set for life."
"You're being so stubborn!" Henry was furious.
Jonathan was amused. He liked her attitude.
Seeing Henry losing to Kathie, Patricia stepped in with a smile. "Dr.Cavendish, I brought two caregivers to look after Jonathan. I hope you agree."
Kathie looked at Jonathan, who blinked for her to refuse, but she nodded.
"Sure, having professionals take care of him makes my job easier." Then she turned to Jonathan."I'm thrilled."
Jonathan gritted his teeth. She was actually happy?
She clearly didn't like being disturbed. She was just being stubborn.
Patricia was delighted. "Jonathan, you heard that. Dr. Cavendish agreed,so I can stay."
.Jonathan was displeased. "Dr. Cavendish, are you serious?"
Did Jonathan not know if she was serious? They exchanged glances, subtle changes in their eyes.
Patricia was anxious, about to speak when Kathie's phone rang.
Kathie recognized the number. It was Randy's mother, Kaitlyn Foster, likely about the divorce.
Kathie stepped aside to answer.
Kaitlyn spoke first, "Kathie, you know who I am."
Kathie replied with a smile, "I know. So,what do you want?"
Kaitlyn commanded, "I need to talk to you. Come out now."
