Chapter 47
Shanal ess?
Jonathan nodded firmly, leaving no room for negotiation. "I'm not going back. Don't tell anyone I'm here, and most importantly, don't come back."
Seeing Jonathan's resolve. Henry didn't press further. "Alright, take care of yourself. Let us know if you need anything."
Jonathan waved them off. urging them to leave quickly. Patricia sighed, suppressing her jealousy, and walked over to Kathie, trying to be gracious."Dr. Cavendish, pleasé take good care of him."
"As long as the money's right, I know what to do." Kathie decided to play along since they assumed she was in it for the money.
Henry looked at her with disdain and pulled out a credit card from his bag."Use this as you need."
Kathie didn't take it. "I only want Mr. Berkeley's money, not from outsiders."
"Ungrateful," Henry muttered, dragging a reluctant Patricia away.
Patricia kept looking back, hoping Jonathan would change his mind.
Bradley, who had been silent at the door, stepped forward. "So,you're the famous Jonathan."
Jonathan sized him up. "Mr. Brooks, I've seen you in medical journals. You're quite a notable figure in Eldoria."
"You flatter me. I'm not as famous as Mr. Berkeley. We'll chat more another time." Bradley nodded and walked over to Kathie. "You two talk.Call me if you need anything." "Thanks for today. I'll treat you to coffee another time," Kathie replied.
Given the current situation. Kathie couldn't calmly invite Bradley for coffee. She still had someone to deal with.
Understanding her mood,Bradley left.
The room fell silent, with only their breathing auidible.
After a long pauase, Kathie broke the silence. "Jonathan, you never lost your memory, did you?"
Jonathan felt uncomfortable with the formal address. "You don't have to call me that. I prefer when you call me Seven."
Ignoring him, Kathie continued, "You knew my identity when you saw Randy, yet you chose to keep it a secret."
Jonathan felt a lump in his throat. "It was a special situation. I couldn't say anything."
Kathie laughed coldly. "Of course, I understand. You were worried that if you revealed your noble identity, I'd ask for more money. It was a temporary measure."
Jonathan felt troubled. He knew Kathie's temper well by now, and appeasing her wouldn't be easy.
"It's not like that. I know you're not greedy," he said.
Kathie was fuming. "Patricía is your girlfriend. She mentioned in an interview that her beloved boyfriend was about to propose. That's you.right?"
.Kathie regretted asking as soon as the words left her mouth. Why did she care if Jonathan was marrying someone else?
"That's not..."
"No need to explain. I'm not interested in your personal life. But I have the right to know why you ended up like this." Kathie cut him off.
Jonathan's mood was in turmoil, but he patiently explained, "Someone tried to kill me. They altered my route and tampered with my car, causing it to go off a cliff."
"No wonder you were so badly injured. If the culprit finds out I saved you, won't I be in danger?"
"If you're scared. just heal me quickly so I can leave. Otherwise, I'll have to stay here,as you promised."
Who else would be so shameless?
"You can stay, as long as the money's right," Kathie replied.
Jonathan nodded seriously. "Name your price."
Kathie teased, "I mentioned thirty million dollars earlier, and your friend got so worked up. If I ask for more, you might run away."
Jonathan smiled wryly. "Try me. See if you can scare me off."
Kathie held up three fingers. "This time, I want three hundred million dollars. Can Mr. Berkeley afford that?"
"Yes!"
Kathie was stunned into silence.
Seeing her reaction, Jonathan waved a hand in front of her face. "What's wrong? Don't believe me? I can write you a promissory note right now."
Kathie had been testing him, expecting him to call her greedy like the Stewart siblings. She hadn't expected him to agree without hesitation.
"You're really willing to give that?" Kathie pressed.
Jonathan smiled. "Yes. You want to secure a future for your three little ones, right?"
Kathie was surprised he understood her true intentions. Feeling a mix of emotions, she nodded nonchalantly. "Yes, in case something happens to me. they'll have the money to live well."
Jonathan's face softened. "That's why I'm willing to give it. I'm not joking."
Kathie shook her head sincerely. "I don't need that much. As I said before, thirty million dollars is enough. I'm giving you a friendly price for helping my three little ones."
Jonathan smiled."Thank you, Dr. Cavendish."
Kathie added, "You need to tell your friends not to come to my house uninvited."
Jonathan nodded. "I understand. But wasn't it a bit inappropriate to bring Bradley back here?"
Kathie didn't get his point. "He picked us up early and drove me back.Inviting him in for coffee is just common courtesy. I felt bad he left so quickly."
"It's not proper for a man and woman to be alone together. You should keep your distance." Jonathan didn't like seeing her close to other men.
Kathie was exasperated. "Aren't we alone together now? Why aren't you saying to keep our distance?"
Jonathan frowned. "Let's not talk about him. When are you divorcing Randy? You're dragging it out too long."Kathie laughed in anger. "Mr. Berkeley, you're meddling too much in my affairs. I don't pry into your personal life, so don't pry into mine."
With that. Kathie went to her room, leaving Jonathan troubled.
Meanwhile, back in the car, Henry and Patricia were in a foul mood.
Patricia grew increasingly jealous. "Henry, Kathie doesn't seem like a country woman. What's her real identity?"
Henry was lost in thought, her question snapping him out of it.
He found Kathie familiar, like he'd seen her somewhere before.
"Call Ben. He'll know," Henry replied.
Patricia nodded and dialed Ben.
Ben answered quickly, "Miss Stewart, what's up?"
Patricia got straight to the point. "Ben, I just saw Jonathan and Kathie."
Ben was shocked they'd discovered the secret.
Patricia continued. "Don't hide it from us. I want to know Kathie's real identity. If you don't tell us, we'll find out ourselves, which might not be good for Jonathan."
There was silenace on the other end. Henry added, "We're concerned about Jonathan. Tell us what you know, and we'll keep it confidential."
After some thought, Ben decided the Stewart siblings wouldn't harm Jonathan. He hesitated before speaking. "Kathie is a socialite from the Cavendish Group, Randy's legal wife, with three children."
°"Are her three kids Randy's?"
"No, their biological father is unknown."
