Chapter 27

Charlotte yanked with all her strength, but Frederick's arm was like a rock, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't get him to let go of Taylor s collar.

Desperate and not caring about her image, Charlotte twisted her hands and bit him, but it was useless.

"Let go of Taylor! If you keep this up, Taylor's gonna die!"

Tears instantly welled up in Charlotte's eyes, genuinely scared that Frederick might actually kill Taylor.

Her tears fell onto Frederick's hand, the warmth snapping him back to reality.

Seeing that Taylor had already been taught a lesson,Frederick reluctantly threw her to the ground.

"Taylor!"

Charlotte rushed to catch her but was too late, watching helplessly as Taylor was flung like a rag doll, crashing into Jasper.

"Taylor, are you okay? Jasper, check on her!"

Charlotte fell to the ground, her tears flowing like a broken dam.

Jasper, pale-lipped, struggled to his feet to check on Tayor, gently tapping her back to help her breathe, finally easing Taylor's complexion.

"It's okay, don't worry," Jasper said, still heavily panting.

"Jasper, is your asthma acting up again? Where's your medicine?"

Charlotte then noticed Jasper's condition, clearly having an asthma attack.

Jasper didn't speak but looked at Frederick.

Following his gaze, Charlotte met Frederick's cold, icy eyes.

Frederick looked down at Charlotte, as if she were an ant unrelated to him.

He sneered maliciously, saying, "Charlotte, how many surprises do you have for mne? Are you really this cheap?"

Charlotte's ambiguous relationship with Taylor and her earlier intimate call to this pretentious doctor only fueled Frederick's anger.

Seeing Charlotte so anxious with them, Frederick felt a fire burning in his chest.

"Give me the medicine."

Charlotte stood up, stubbornly extending her hand towards Frederick.

"You mean this?"

Frederick opened his palm, revealing a bottle of emergency asthma medication.

"Give me the medicine! Are you crazy? This could be fatal!"

Charlotte reached out to grab it, but Frederick was quicker, clenching the bottle in his fist and grabbing her arm with his other hand.

Frederick leaned in, asking, "Charlotte, what do you really want?"

Last night they had shared a sweet evening, but this morning he discovered Taylor living with her. He couldn't accept it.

"You ask what I want? Frederick, are you out of your mind? Give me the medicine right now, or I'll call the police!"

Charlotte thought he was completely insane.

"You're insulting me? For that Taylor?" Frederick's eyes reddened at the corners.

His eyes were filled with determination and madness, with a hint of murderous intent.

Charlotte grabbed Frederick's hand, biting down hard, forcing him to release his grip, and immediately tossed the medicine bottle to Jasper.

Seeing him use the inhaler, Charlotte finally breathed a sigh of relief and began pounding Frederick's chest in anger.

"Why are you doing this? Do you know how dangerous that was? You lunatic!"

Charlotte cried harder, her tears blurring her vision so much she couldn't even see Frederick's face.

Frederick juststood there, taking her hits, her punches feeling like nothing to him.

After a while,Charlotte finally wore herself out. Frederick tightened his grip around her waist, like he was staking his claim. Frederick rarely explained himself, but he said, "I came to see Jasper for a consultation. I booked his whole day, but he refused to see me." He then glanced at Taylor, his eyes even colder. "And as for him,he punched me the moment he walked in. Not breaking his arm was me being nice."

Hearing this, Charlotte noticed the bruise on Frederick's face.

Putting two and two together with what she'd heard from the people outside, she realized Frederick wasn't lying.

"You're full of it!"

Taylor, helping Jasper up, shot back. "I walked in and saw you bullying my brother. Of course I hit you!"

Frederick's eyes were cold and disdainful as he looked at them.

He then noticed how much the doctor and Taylor looked alike. No wonder he felt an odd dislike for Jasper.

Frederick sneered at Taylor's thin frame.

"If you hadn't sucker-punched me, do you think you could hurt me with those scrawny arms? You look so weak, what kind of man are you?"

The thought of Charlotte spending time with this guy made Frederick's blood boil.

"Are you nuts?" Taylor shouted,exasperated.

"Do you have a death wish?" Frederick roared back.

Charlotte immediately stepped in front of Taylor. "What are youa doing? Are you going to hit Taylor again?"

With Charlotte backing her up, Taylor straightened up and said, "T'm not a man! What are you talking about? I just dress a bit androgynously."

Though insulted, Frederick didn't lose his temper this time.

He looked closer at Taylor and realized she didn't have an Adam's apple.

Charlotte finally understood what had driven Frederick mad earlier.

"Frederick, did you think Taylor was a guy?"

Charlotte glared at Frederick, feeling both angry and amused, speechless.

Frederick's lips pressed into a thin line.

Regaining his composure, he knew he had made a huge mistake.

He had seen Charlotte with Taylor, and with Taylor's short hair and suit,he had assumed Taylor was a guy, never considering she might be a tomboy.

No wonder his men couldn't find any info on Taylor.

He had thought Taylor had some hidden identity.

But he had never expected Taylor was actually a woman!

Knowing Charlotte wasn't involved with another man, Frederick's previously dark mood lifted.

However, Charlotte still couldn't accept Frederick's earlier behavior. "Even if you misunderstood me and Taylor, you could have talked to me directly. Why drag Jasper into this? He just got back from abroad yesterday, what did he ever do to you?" Charlotte instinctively thought Frederick had come to find Jasper to cause trouble because of her.
