Chapter 28

"I told you, I'm just here for a consultation," Frederick said, trying to keep his cool.

Charlotte wasn't buying it. "You're so strong. I don't believe you're sick."

She paused, her voice dropping. "Is this about Serena?"

"Yeah," Frederick nodded.

He didn't feel like explaining more to Charlotte, but he didn't expect the doctor treating Serena abroad to be connected to her.

"So that's it," Charlotte's eyes went cold. "Frederick, if you're going to make up an excuse, at least make it believable. There are so many doctors out there. Why force my friend to treat Serena? Can't she get help without Jasper?"

Charlotte didn't know the link between Jasper and Serena,so it all seemed too convenient to her.

"What are you saying? Are you blaming me for this?" Frederick stepped forward, trying to grab Charlotte, but missed.

Charlotte shot back, "What else? How do you explain it? You just happened to pick a hospital not under the Percy Family, find Jasper who just got back, and I just happen to run into you? Explain that!" Frederick's fist clenched, and he suddenly slammed it into the desk. The force left a big dent in the solid wood, and his hand started bleeding. Seeing his wound, Charlotte instinctively wanted to check on him,but thinking of Taylor and Jasper, she held back. Frederick felt even more disheartened by her indifference. He stared coldly at her, his tone harsh, "Fine, remember what you said today. From now on,no matter what happens to you, I won't step in."

"Fine," Charlotte agreed without hesitation, equally angry.

Frederick's mess with Serena had driven her to seek refuge with Taylor, but he misunderstood her relationship with Taylor, slandered her,and almost hurt Taylor and Jasper.

If staying tangled with him would harm those around her, she'd rather cut ties forever.

Seeing the determination in her eyes, Frederick realized she had no hesitation about leaving him, and his anger boiled over.

He laughed bitterly, "We haven't divorced yet, so you must move back tonight. Otherwise, I'll make everything you care about disappear."

Since nothing he did could earn her trust, he might as well be the villain.

"Frederick, don't force me to hate you," Charlotte's tears started flowing again.

"Go ahead and hate me!" Frederick stormed out.

Once he was gone. Charlotte finallybroke down and cried. Taylor helped her to a chair, quickly wiping her tears and comforting her, "Don't cry, being upset isn't good for the baby." "Okay, I won't cry anymore," Charlotte sobbed, holding back her tears, and reached out to touch her belly. For the sake of her child, she had to be strong. As long as she could endure Frederick until their divorce, she'd be free.

Taylor gently touched her head. "Do you really have to go back to that jerk's house tonight? I'm worried something might happen."

"It's okay, I know what I'm doing." Charlotte reassured Taylor. She'd deal with Frederick's demands.

The company's issues had just been resolved, and if Frederick turned against them now, EX Company would definitely retaliate, undoing all her and Taylor's hard work.

It's just a few days, she didn't believe Frederick would do anything to her.She still had Anouk to back her up; she wasn't afraid to face Frederick.

"Jasper, check on Charlotte, make sure the baby is okay," Taylor called Jasper over.

Jasper came over to examine Charlotte. "The baby is fine and very healthy. But Charlotte, have you not been sleeping well recently? Your health seems to have deteriorated a bit. Since you're pregnant, many medications are off-limits, so I can't prescribe anything for you."

"Thank you, Jasper," Charlotte said graefully. "In the future, my baby and I will still need your help." "Taylor has told mé everything about you, don't worry," Jasper adjusted his uniform and, after some thought, said, "Charlotte, the Serena you mentíoned earlier, is she the patient who became a vegetative state after a car accident five years ago?" "You know her?" Charlotte was a bit surprised. She couldn't understand how Jasper knew Serena. Jasper nodded. "It's a coincidence, but I just remembered that the first vegetative patient I encountered overseas was Serena. During her coma, she became a research subject for me and my mentor, and fortunately,we managed to wake her up."

"Serena was awakened by you?" Charlotte stood up from her chair in shock.

What kind of fate was this? Jasper, whom she had known since childhood, turned out to be Serena's doctor.

Charlotte murmured, "No wonder Frederick insisted on finding you, it was because of this."

So Frederick wasn't looking for trouble with her, but because of Jasper's connection with Serena, he sought out Jasper, and meeting her here was purely coincidental.

So,had Charlotte wronged Frederick?

"But what is Serena's relationship with Frederick? Didn't he marry you?"Jasper asked.

At this, Charlotte's eyes dimmed. "Serena is the woman Frederick loves. After she woke up, she came back to claim her place as Mrs. Percy, and she even has Frederick's child now. Frederick will divorce me and marry her."

"She has a child?" Jasper raised an eyebrow, his gaze becoming deep. "Yes, why?" Charlotte tilted her head to look at him, feeling that Jasper's reaction was a bit strange. "Nothing, I'm just a bit surprised, considering Serena was in a nutrition pod for several years," Jasper adjusted his glasses, the edges of the black frames already cracked, and the lenses showing fine cracks.

He said apologetically, "I'm sorry, Charlotte, I was too slow to realize Serena was my patient, causing a misunderstanding between you and Frederick. I was just too worried about you and didn't expect Frederick to be so rude."

Hearing him say this, the guilt for Frederick that had just risen in Charlotte's heart immediately dissipated.
