Chapter 26

Charlotte rocked a goose-yellow satin evening gown. Maybe it was the pregnancy glow, but she looked more stunning than ever.

Taylor, as usual, stuck to her androgynous vibe. Her suit was sharp,and her tie matched Charlotte's dress perfectly. They looked like a power couple.

Taylor was buzzing with excitement the whole way there.

Charlotte felt a bit of relief too, finally shaking off some of the stress.

She had no clue why Frederick bailed without a word, but she owed him for this one.

When they got to the venue,they snagged front-row seats.

This press conference was EX Company's way of saying sorry to them.

Lucas stepped up and gave a deep bow to all the cameras.

He started with, "I'm sorry, EX Company has let everyone down.About the 'Crush' perfume plagiarism mess with JXL Company, it was all a big misunderstanding."

Charlotte couldn't help but let out a cold laugh.

Typical of a shady company like theirs to downplay a big screw-up and then find a scapegoat to brush it off. Lucas went on, "The reason the two perfumes are so similar is because our intern perfumer stole JXL Company's formula, and we got duped too, so..."

"Mr. Jones, if it was all the intern's fault, how do you explain the so-called century-old formula evidence on your official website?" Charlotte stood up and called him out.

Lucas didn't see that coming and started sweating bullets.

"Uh,about that..."

He shot Charlotte a desperate look, practically begging for mercy.

Even though he had to clear this up because of Frederick, they were still a big brand and couldn't afford a bad rep.

Charlotte saw his plea but wasn't about to let it slide.

"How do you explain it? As far as I know, you personally handle the website in Starland,right?" Charlotte pressed on.

She wanted Lucas to own up in front of all the media.

She could've let it go, but with their relationship already strained and Frederick's backing, when else would she get a shot at Lucas?

A guy like Lucas, with no morals, trying to pin it all on an intern and walk away clean? No way.

Lucas wiped the sweat off his forehead.

Right then, he wanted to shut Charlotte up but was still scared of Frederick. "Yes, the info on the website was wrong. That's on me, and I'm ready to face an investigation by headquarters and take all the consequences." After that, Lucas felt drained and slumped into his chair. Cameras kept flashing, while Charlotte and Taylor walked out, feeling victorious.

"Charlotte,you were amazing."

Taylor was buzzing with excitement. She thought the whole thing would get swept under the rug.

In her mind, getting an apology and some compensation from EX Company was already a big win. She never expected they'd get to take a direct shot at Lucas.

"I just couldn't stand Lucas dodging responsibility. We both know he orchestrated the whole thing," Charlotte said, finally feeling at ease.

"Even if Lucas doesn't get fired, he's definitely in for some serious punishment."

Taylor's eyes sparkled as she looked at Charlotte."It's lunchtime. To celebrate Jasper's first day at work, let's go to his hospital and surprise him.

Back in school, Taylor had always pushed Jasper to go after Charlotte, but Jasper was too shy to ever confess his feelings.

Even though Jasper never said anything, Taylor, being his twin sister,knew he went abroad for further studies because he couldn't handle Charlotte getting married. Now that Charlotte was on the brink of divorce, Taylor wasn't about to let him miss his chance again.

Charlotte checked the time. "Lunch is on me." They were best friends, and Charlotte had always gotten along well with Jasper. After today's victory, she was in high spirits and knew she'd need Jasper's help with her pregnancy.

When they got to the hospital, they found a crowd gathered in front of Jasper's clinic.

Taylor immediately pushed her way through. "Charlotte, I'll go check.Jasper wouldn't be getting bullied on his first day,would he?"

Charlotte didn't have the strength to push through the crowd from the back.

But she overheard people saying, "The new doctor at Sunrise Hospital is supposed to be amazing. I've been waiting since last week, and now someone wants to cut in line."

"Yeah! Everyone knows this foreign doctor is top-notch. These rich folks think they can do whatever they want!"

"But I heard those who registered today got huge compensation."

"Not just compensation, but also free appointments with other specialists."

"Really?"

"Maybe we should just let it go. Do you know who's inside? Even the hospital director wouldn't mess with him."

"I know, it's Mr. Percy!"

Hearing Frederick's name, Charlotte's eyes widened, and she pushed through the crowd with all her might.

Sure enough, she saw him inside. He had Taylor by the collar, lifting her off the ground.

"Frederick, let go! What are you doing?"

Charlotte screamed, rushing over to pull at Frederick's arm.

Taylor's face was turning purple.

No wonder she hadn't heard any voices inside; Taylor had been lifted up as soon as she entered.

Frederick's eyes were blazing with anger. Seeing Charlotte rush in to help Taylor only made him angrier.

"Stay out of it. He attacked me first."

Frederick's expression was fierce, determined to teach Taylor a lesson.

"You hit my brother first!"

Taylor's face was already turning an unnatural color, but she stil1 managed to retort.

Charlotte saw Jasper slumped over by the desk, looking in bad shape, but Taylor's situation was more urgent.

"Frederick! Let go of Taylor right now!"
