Chapter 96

Anais was fuming. "How can you even think you're good enough for James? You're just a slut, dreaming of being Mrs. Smith. It's laughable!"

Emily, on the other hand, stayed calm and even smiled a bit. "Why don't you take the Mrs. Smith title then?"

Anais, caught off guard, blurted out, "Sure."

Emily raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "James, looks like you've certainly got your fair share of female pursuers. One Mrs. Smith might not be enough to handle all that charm."

Anais froze, realizing James was right behind her. He walked over to Emily, wrapped an arm around her waist, and pulled her close, giving Anais a cold stare.

"But you're the one who's not keen on being Mrs. Smith," he said to Emily with a hint of grievance.

Anais was stunned. She clenched her teeth, glaring at Emily. She knew Emily had lured her into speaking harshly, knowing James was listening.

Anais rolled her eyes, frustrated. She wanted to make a good impression on James but hesitated, feeling a bit defeated.

Without Eric around, she didn't dare to act out in front of James. His patience with her was only because of Eric. Anais believed Emily and James were just using each other, with no real feelings involved.

She muttered, "Emily, just wait." Anais stormed off, leaving Emily to smile helplessly. "She's kind of cute when she's mad," Emily said.

James looked puzzled. "Cute? She was insulting you."

Emily shrugged. "People who don't know me always do."

She was used to it by now. To her, Anais's anger was almost endearing.

Emily followed James back to his office. He checked the time; it was three in the afternoon. "Shouldn't you be at the Williams Group?"

As soon as James sat down, Emily wrapped her arms around his neck and settled onto his lap, her hips pressing against him.

She knew exactly how to get him going. She could feel his arousal even through their clothes.

She kissed him, and he tried to keep a straight face, though his ears turned red. "Ms. Johnson, behave yourself."

Emily ignored him, undoing his belt and unzipping his pants, her hand moving up and down his length.

She bit his lip playfully. "You like this, don't you?"

James couldn't resist any longer. He pulled her closer, her breasts pressing against his chest.

The room's temperature seemed to rise. Emily'scheeks flushed.

James's lips brushed her ear. "I like it a lot."

They kissed passionately, their clothes becoming more and more disheveled, as James's hands roamed over her body. "So, what brings you here?" James asked, knowing she wouldn't just drop by without a reason. He had a feeling something was up with Emily.

Emily chuckled to herself; she had come here especially to confess her feelings.

"James,I..."

Just then, James's phone rang, cutting her off. The ringtone was different, not his usual one. It must have been set for someone special.

James didn't plan to answer. "What were you going to say?"

He looked at Emily intently, his arousal evident.

Emily wasn't in a rush. She handed him the phone. "You should take this.

"

She noticed the contact name: Sunny.

James glanced at the phone, then lifted Emily onto the desk, kissed her,and stepped aside to answer the call.

This was the first time James had taken a call away from her.

Emily's gut told her Sunny was a girl and someone important to James.

A few minutes later, James returned, looking composed. He straightened his tie, appearing neat. "So, what were you saying?" James acted normal, not explaining the call. Emily asked, "Who's Sunny?" James smiled. "She's my niece. She's in some trouble and needs my help." But Emily sensed James was a bit off.

James pulled her close again, nuzzling her neck. "You still haven't told me why you came."

Interrupted, Emily lost her enthusiasm. It felt cheesy now.

She kissed him. "I'll tell you tonight."

James looked a bit disappointed. "But I want to know now. I have to go back to Starry Capital tonight."

Emily was surprised. "So soon?"

James nodded, looking serious. "Yes, I need to handle it personally."

He looked at her. "Or you could come with me, for a change of scenery. I worry you won't sleep well alone."

Emily shook her head. "I've been on leave from work for quite a while. I can't keep taking advantage of the Williams family. I'll stay in Emerald City and wait for you, my little princess."

She pinched his cheek affectionately.

James sensed something was off. He rubbed against her, asking softly, "Are you sure you won't tell me?"

Emily shook her head. James looked at her with puppy eyes. She gave him a deep kiss, and he seemed satisfied. Emily quickly returned to the Williams Group, her mind racing. From James's expression, it seemed Sunny's issue was serious. That evening, Emily got back to empty Crystal Valley Manor. She had just stepped into the bathroom when her teacher called.

Harry's voice was cold and stern, with a hint of menace. "Emmy, there's a problem with the formula at the research institute in Starry Capital. Go check it out and deal with whoever's involved-no mercy.”
