Chapter 89

Emily's hands shook as she fished out a box of meds from the car's glove compartment.

It had been ages since she last took her depression meds.

Living with James had made her feel almost normal, like she was cured. But she was wrong.

When she opened the box, it was empty.

She tore through the car, searching for the meds. But they were gone.

Emily's emotions spiraled, and a dark, murderous glint flashed in her eyes.

Her gaze landed on the USB drive, and the words synthesized by Veda echoed in her mind, causing a chilling pain. Her head pounded.

Her bottled-up rage exploded, and she sped off to the Johnson Mansion.

At the mansion's gate, the butler didn't hesitate, "You'e not part of the Johnson family anymore. You can't come in."

In a fit of rage, Emily floored the gas pedal, shocking the butler as she crashed through the gate and into the garden. The butler's legs wobbled.

Aiden and Mia were both at the company at the time.

The butler, clueless about Emily's intentions, quickly made a call. Emily parked and stormed upstairs. The servants, seeing her fury, didn't dare approach. She banged on Veda's door, but there was no answer. Narrowing her eyes,Emily kicked the door open.

The loud crash woke Veda, who had just cried herself to sleep.

"Emily, why are you back?" Veda asked.

Without a word, Emily grabbed her by the neck, her eyes bloodshot.

"Veda, you took everything from me. Why do you still want to hurt me?"

Emily's grip tightened.

With her karate training and awards, Emily was way stronger than the average woman.

Veda, trapped in her grip, couldn't fight back. Her face turned red, and she couldn't speak.

She desperately tried to pry Emily's hand off her neck.

But Emily didn't budge.

Seeing the murderous intent in Emily's eyes, Veda's body shook with fear.

"Emily!"

Suddenly, a sharp pain hit the back of her neck, and Emily blacked out.Her hand loosened, and she fell back, caught by the man behind her. It was Emily's psychiatrist,Gerald Patterson. Gerald half-carried Emily, his gaze falling on Veda, who was struggling to breathe. Trembling, Veda pointed at Emily, "I'm calling the police. She tried to kill me!"

"Ms. Johnson, if you call the police, your scheme with Lucas will go public.

Veda's face went even paler.

Gerald looked down at Emily helplessly, who was still trembling.

He carried her away.

"I killed Veda!"

Emily jolted awake. In her dream, she had strangled Veda, whose eyes were full of resentment.

Looking around, she realized she was in a familiar place. It was Gerald's counseling room.

She sat up slowly, staring at her hands. The dream felt too real, and she muttered, "I killed Veda. I killed Veda!"

Emily's breathing quickened. Just then, a warm glass of water was handed to her.

"Relax, you didn't kill her. I got there in time, and Veda's fine."

Emily let out a sigh of relief, her tense nerves easing up. "Dr. Rivera, how did I get here? And how did you find me?" she asked, still a bit dazed. Gerald replied, "You called me, asking for help because you couldn't control yourself. I tracked you down. When I got to the Johnson Mansion, you had already attacked Veda. But don't worry; she's fine and won't say anything."

Emily couldn't recall any of what Gerald was saying.

After a moment, she said, "I'm out of meds. Can you prescribe some for me?"

Gerald hesitated before saying, "Sure."

He was Emily's psychiatrist. He knew everything about her-her assault.the fallout with John and Veda, and her relationship James. She had no secrets from him.

Over the years with James, Emily hadn't had any relapses. She even thought she was cured.

Emily noticed the USB drive on the table and asked, "Have you listened to what's on this USB drive?"

Gerald shook his head. "You seem really concerned about it."

Emily's eyes flickered. "There's an audio file on it. Maybe it can help with my condition."

Gerald nodded. "Alright, I'll check it out."

Looking out the window at the dark night, Emily checked her phone and was surprised to see it was already 2 a.m. "Did I sleep that long?" Gerald looked at her. "You wwoke up once, showing signs of self-harm, so I gave you a sedative. That's why you slept until now."

Emily's bipolar disorder had been a long-standing issue. Gerald suspected

it started after Lucas had tried to assault her.

After returning to the Johnson Mansion, her condition wasn't taken seriously. Though her bipolar disorder wasn't obvious, Emily had been avoiding everyone.

Emily didn't really know how to like someone, so she was cold and indifferent to everyone.

She pinched her brow and asked, "Is my memory loss related to my illness?"

Gerald nodded.

Emily got up, went to the bathroom, and saw the bruises on her neck, even some bloodstains. She had been particularly harsh on herself.

After washing her face, she walked out and said to Gerald, "Dr. Rivera, thanks for today."

"No need to be so formal," Gerald smiled warmly.

Suddenly, Gerald remembered something. "By the way, your phone's been ringing. I answered it for you."

Emily noticed it was James calling. She felt a headache coming on.

"What did he say?" "He asked when you'd be back, I told him we were friends and that you were staying with me tonight." Emily gritted her teeth, already imagining how furious James would be at Crystal Valley Manor. "How did he react?"

"He was pretty rude, hung up on me."

Emily sighed, rubbing her temples.
