Chapter 75
John was totally wasted.
He stumbled into the dining room and saw a bunch of people, including Emily, which didn't shock him. But then he spotted James.
John's anger bubbled up like a volcano, and he snapped, "Why the hell is James here? How could he eat in our house?"
Emily and James were sitting close, and no one seemed to think it was weird!
John's chest tightened, making it hard to breathe.
He skipped the office today. Instead, he hit up a bar with friends, drank all day. and vented non-stop.
One of his friends, rolling his eyes, finally said, "You picked someone else when you got married. Now Emily's got a boyfriend, so why are you whining? You had your fun, and now you want to change your mind? Why should Emily wait around for you?"
He added. "John, do you think you're all that? You lean on the Williams family, never on yourself. But look at Emily's new guy,he's got you beat in every way."
He went on, "You used to act like a jerk because she liked you and would wait. Now that Emily's got a better option, you're pissed. You're just asking for in"
John couldn't argue back, and even breathing hurt.
His phone had been off all day. When he turned it on, there were only calls and messages from Veda.
For a moment, John felt abandoned by the whole world. This helplessness was now overwhelming.
His grandpa admired James a lot, always smiling at him.
His dad, usually cold and distant, was actually toasting with James.
Emily leaned on James, seemingly urging him to drink.
Juliet was glued to her phone, not noticing anything.
No one paid any attention to him.
Juliet didn't even notice Johnhad come back. She suddenly exclaimed,"James, Carlton invited me to hang out! From today on, you're my brother-in-law!"
Hearing that. John felt a chill run through his body, freezing his blood.
John's voice was hoarse. "Juliet! Who's your brother-in-law?"
She immediately replied, "Of course,it's Mr.James Smith."
Juliet rolled her eyes, looked up at John, and said in exasperation,"You're not married to Emily, so why are you upset? What right do you have to be angry? I really don't get you." Juliet thought John was being pretentious. She hated that kind of person the most. John, usually calm and composed, was a mess for the first time. Seeing John like this, Calliope felt a bit sorry for him. But since things had come to this, it would be more gracious of himto let go.
He was just making a fool of himself for no reason.
Since coming back from abroad, John had been living alone with Veda.
Calliope asked, "Why did you suddenly come back?"
John couldn't get mad at Calliope, so he just held it in.
Calliope asked him to sit down and eat. After John sat down, the atmosphere at the dining table instantly changed.
John was stuck at the end of the table, far from Emily, with someone else between them. Meanwhile, James was sitting next to Wilder, in a more prominent spot.
He felt super uncomfortable, itching to let it all out.
Calliope glanced at him, sighed, and said, "Just eat your meal first. I'll have someone make you some ginger tea."
John looked at Emily. "You go make it for me."
Emily put down her utensils and snapped, "John, are you nuts? Make it yourself." Back when they were dating, Emily would always make him ginger tea whenever he got drunk. Her ginger tea was special, with a faint medicinal scent and a refreshing hint of oranges. But now, she wouldn't do it for him anymore. James held Emily's hand, his gaze coldly fixed on John. James's commanding presence and the way he clung to Emily really choked John up.
Hating this feeling, he slammed his utensils down and stormed upstairs, with Hayden's scolding voice trailing behind him.
Everyone kept eating, but the mood was ruined. Only Juliet seemed excited.
John took a shower, changed his clothes, and came back down. He looked refreshed, but the weariness and gloom were still there.
He watched Emily and James chatting and laughing, feeling a whirlwind of emotions.
Seeing his expression, Hayden added fuel to the fire. "Now Emmy and James are in love, so drop the self-important attitude. You're not worthy Emmy's attention anymore since you chose Veda. We don't care about your relationship with Veda now, but just don't disturb Emmy anymore."
He added. "And, James is now working with our company. As an adult, you should know when to hold on and when to let go."
Hayden's words made sense, but John couldn't hear them.
James chimed in, "Mr. Hayden Williams, you're too kind. Golden Birch Group also values Diamond Glow's design. It's a win-win cooperation."
Hayden was pleased with his words. And James spoke respectfully, making Hayden even happier. Emily, feeling a bit helpless, glanced at James and flirtatiously whispered in his ear,"You're a master of swweet talk. Why don't you say sweet things in bed?" James openly kissed her cheek. "Ill whisper all those you want to hear... in the moment."
Emily blushed. She shouldn't have teased him, forgetting that James was a bit cheeky.
Everyone was laughing, and John was completely ignored.
Then John's untimely voice rang out. "Although Diamond Glow's current sales aren't great, it's not at the point of selling Emily out to boost our numbers."
Hayden slammed the table in anger. "You jerk."
With just one sentence, John erased all of Emily's efforts. He blatantly implied that Emily succeeded by seducing James with her looks.
John was quite upset now. They could all get along well with James, ignoring that Emily was supposed to be his wife. Did they ever consider his feeling while doing so?.
John's words became more and more outrageous. "Am I wrong? Emily went to James, who agreed to cooperate without a second thought. How could the deal have been made without resorting to seduction? I don't need to boost Diamond Glow by trading on a woman."
