Chapter 46

For most folks, it was just a simple blessing. But for John and Veda, it was pure sarcasm.

John's face darkened. When Emily said those words, she didn't seem to care at all. It was like she was giving a friendly blessing. He felt stifled and really ticked off.

Emily knew full well that he and Veda could never get mnarried, yet she still said it like that.

The people around them didn't notice the tension and just joined in the teasing.

"Mr. Williams, you've been dating forever. You should totally get married."

"The wedding better be grand. Can't wait to see it."

Everyone was laughing and offering their blessings.

Veda's face was pretty sour. She said uneasily, "If we have a wedding, you all have to come."

Suddenly, someone in the crowd piped up, "I remember three years ago the Williams family had a wedding. It was super fancy, but not many people were invited. It seemed like a business deal, but I heard the groom ran away for the other woman."

As he spoke, his voice got weaker, and he eventually looked down. He was just being blunt and didn't think before speaking, earning him several cold glares. Feeling embarrassed,he scratched his head.

But after that reminder, everyone started to remember the incident.

The story of the Williams family heir running away from the wedding was trending on Twitter for three days, but it had been so long that everyone had forgotten.

Suddenly, people started whispering to each other.

"Could Veda be the other woman?"

"It was a business deal, and Veda's family background seems good. Maybe she ran away from him back then?"

"Wasn't it said online that Veda wasn't the Johnson family's daughter? It couldn't have been a marriage with her."

Even though the discussions were quiet, in the small office space, it was like they were pointing fingers and scolding Veda to her face. Veda's expression darkened.

Suddenly, someone looked at Emily and asked, "Ms. Emily Johnson, you and Veda are sisters. Is Veda..."

He didn't finish, but everyone knew he was asking if Veda was the other woman.

Emily glared at him, "You speak so bluntly; how are you going to survive in the workplace?"

Then she joked, "So what if Mr. Williams gets married? He can always get divorced, right?"

Emily slowly looked at John and smiled slightly. "Isn't that right, Mr.Williams?"

Emily's words confirmed that John had been married and divorced. And,

Veda was likely the other woman!

"Emily! Enough!"John was furious.

Veda quickly grabbed John's arm and said to everyone, "I'm resigning today and will become a jewelry designer at Golden Birch Group. I hope you all do well too."

A hint of envy flashed in everyone's eyes.

Someone said, "With your qualifications, it's easy to get into Golden Birch Group."

Everyone started praising Veda again.

Emily was tired of it and casually said, "I hope to see your original creations in the future, Veda."

Veda felt embarrassed, like she could never get the upper hand over Emily.

Just then, someone walked in with a huge bouquet of roses, even adorned with pink diamonds that sparkled. Everyone there was a jewelry designer,so they knew their diamonds. It must've been cut from a massive pink diamond into hundreds of pieces-a real waste.

The person walked into the design department and asked, "Excuse me,who is Ms.Johnson?"

Everyone's eyes instantly landed on Veda.

Veda thought John was surprising her and smiled brightly, looking shyly at him. "John, thank you."

John frowned, confused. He hadn't bought any roses.

Exetrone eavied Veda as she went to sign for the flowers, anril the staff sald. Phease sign your name here."

The stalt howned slightly after seeing hef name: "Your name is Veda?"

Vede woded with a smile, about to take the flowers, when the person sold."These fhowers are for someone named Emily, net you."

Veda's smie hoze her hand hanging awkwardly in the air.

Emily welked up, signed her name neatly, and thanked the staff."Thanks for bringing them up."

She knew they were from James. Emily lightly tapped the roses with her fingertips.

The assistant looked surprised. "Ms. Johnson, you have a boyfriend?"

Emily noddled. Remembering James's jealous look, she couldn't help but laugh.

The assistant teased, "Ms. Johnson, that's such a big deal, yet you only telling us now. Is there any friendship left between us?"

Emily just smiled, not planning to introduce themn to James. If they really mer him mey d probably be scared to death.

Emily saw are card on the flowers, smiled slightly, and walked into the elevator with the bouquet. As she was about to take a picture for social media john suddenly barged into the elevator.

The door dosed, leaving everyone a bif confused.

"Wait, why is Mr. Williams so angry? Emily isn't his girlfriend."

Everyone was puzzled, discussing Emily, while Veda stood there alone.

Inside the elevator. John grabbed her arm as she was taking a picture, his gaze icy. "Who is the guy? Emily, you actually dare to betray me."

John's anger had been simmering since yesterday. Now that this guy appeared, he couldn't hold back. He wanted to tear Emily apart right then.

Emily felt a bit of pain from his grip. Debating whether to drop the flowers and fight him, she instead stomped hard on his foot.

"John, we haven't been a thing for a long time. Stay away from me."

As the elevator doors opened, she walked out in her high heels, looking around, and John followed behind her.

He asked, "Is that adulterer downstairs?"

Emily frowned. "Do you have any manners? He's my boyfriend."

The term "boyfriend" made John's eyes burn with jealousy.

He grabbed Emily's arm, stopping her from leaving, took a deep breath, and asked again, "Who is the adulterer? I will expose him today."

At that momenat, a figure appeared behind Emily, wrapping his arms around her waist. His clear voice dropped unexpectedly. "Mr. Williams, it's me."
