Chapter 45

Emily and James were quietly munching on their dinner.

After a bit. Veda showed up. She had to play nice in front of Aiden and Mia, so she couldn't go off on Emily right then and there.

But when she spotted a guy with his back to her, sitting across from Emily,she was taken aback. Was Emily cheating?

As Emily was nibbling on some cake, she whispered something to the guy,and out of nowhere, he stood up and planted a kiss on her lips. They made out like there was no tomorrow.

When they finally pulled apart, Emily's cheeks were flushed,and she had this charming smile, like a breath of fresh air.

Veda's initial shock quickly turned into excitement. Emily cheating meant she had a legit reason to be with John.

She whipped out her phone, recorded a video, and sent it straight to John,who was still burning the midnight oil at work.

John was a bit thrown when he got the message. Before he could even watch the video, Veda's texts started flooding in.

(John, is there something going on between you and Emily? Why is she all lovey-dovey with another guy?]

[I know you haven't wanted to talk to me because I messed up, but I can't stand seeing Emily make a fool out of you.]

[John, I just want you to be happy.]

Reading Veda's messages. John felt a pang in his chest. But when he finally wwatched the video of Emily kissing another guy, his hurt turned into pure rage.

When Emily first mentioned she had a boyfriend, he thought she was just trying to mess with him, to get him to come running back.

But now, seeing that she actually had a boyfriend, the betrayal hit him hard.He called Emily,seething.

Emily wiped her mouth as they finished eating, and her phone rang.James saw John's name on the screen and his face darkened. Emily glanced at James before picking up.

John's voice was tight with anger. "Emily, who are you with? What are you doing?"

Emily replied coolly, "I'm having dinner with a friend. Got a problem with that?"

John's veins were popping. He yelled, "Emily, how dare you cheat on me!"

Emily scoffed. "John, our marriage is a sham. And you were the first to cheat."

John shot back, "So many people thinks you're my wife. Have you thought about how this makes me look?"

If he hadn't changed his mind and left in the middle of getting the marriage certificate, he would've married Emily.

Rolling her eyes, Emily said, "Did you think about my dignity when you ran off with your mistress?"

John was a mess of emotions, breathing heavily. Even through the phone Emily could tell he was fuming.

She said coldly. "We haven't been a real couple for ages. So stay out of my business,got it?"

Emily hung up, her eyes meeting James's. His frown had finally eased.

Emily grinned and asked, "Feeling better now,boyfriend?"

James, keeping a straight face, replied, "The term 'boyfriend' does have a nice ring to it."

Resting her chin on her hands, Emily smiled and stared at James. "Are all you guys possessive in such a weird way?"

James's focus shifted. "Do you have other men?"

Emily rolled her eyes. "Not even gonna dignify that with a response."

She started to ask, "It wasn't you who told..." but stopped herself. James wasn't that clueless, and she had spotted Veda nearby.

It was just a video, and she didn't care. She was done with John and could be with whoever she wanted.

After Emily hung up on him, John threw his phone in frustration. He took a deep breath,feeling really ticked off.

When the phone rang again, he reluctantly picked it up, thinking it was Emily calling to explain. But it was another message from Veda.

Seeing Veda's comforting words only made him more irritated. He felt like he had lost something important.

Not wanting to deal with Veda, he turned off his phone. Veda, not getting a reply from John, started to feel a sense of loss. For the first time in years,John was ignoring her.

The next day, wwhen Emily got to the office, she found breakfast spread out,dazzling everyone.

There was a table loaded with coffee and desserts, and a crowd had already gathered to dig in.

Emily's assistant pulled her over and said, "Ms. Johnson, all this was sent by Mr. Williams, under Veda's name. You should have some too."

Emily and John's relationship wasn't public at the company. She thought,Is Veda still trying to mess with me?'

Emily didn't touch the food and asked, "Didn't Veda already resign?"

The assistant replied, "She's coming in today to finalize the resignation,should be here soon."

After a while, Veda finished the resignation process and brought John over.

She said, "Emily, I had John order your favorite waffles. Try some."

Veda smiled warmly.

Emily watched them calmly and said, "I'm not hungry. You two go ahead."

Veda's smile brightened. "John said I looked haggard lately,so I should eat more to take care of my health."

John looked at her fondly. "After that incident, you've been weak. The doctor didn't even want you to come to work. Besides, I can support you.Yet you still insist on coming in."

Everyone blinked and said, "Ms. Veda Johnson, Mr. Williams,you two are so sweet."

Even though their opinion of Veda had dropped, she was still John's girlfriend, so they had to show some respect. When it came to actual benefits,people would say nice things.

Seeing them act all lovey-dovey, Emily smiled sincerely. "You two have been dating for three or four years. When's the wedding? I'm looking forward to it."

John looked at Emily, hoping to see a hint of jealousy. But there was nothing.

Emily was completely calm.
