Chapter 14

Emily stayed quiet until Veda stepped out of the elevator, standing right in front of herand saying, "Sis, we're colleagues now."

Emily glanced at Veda, who was dressed in a light pink suit, her face perfectly oval with a cherry-like mouth, looking all cute and innocent.

Veda had always put on the act of being the obedient one, so much so that Aiden and Mlia would believe anything she said without a second thought.

Even if Veda messed up, a single tear in front of Aiden and Mia would mean Emily had to take the fall.

Everyone was shocked when Veda called her Sis.

Emily couldn't pretend to be nice, especially with Veda. Her voice was icy."Don't call me Sis."

Veda bit her lip and looked down, all hurt. "I know you don't want to work with me, but I got this job fair and square. It's rare for us sisters to work together. If you really can't stand it, I'll leave. I don't want to make things hard for you."

Veda turned to leave, looking all pitiful, which was honestly kind of heartbreaking.

Emily just chuckled and watched her go without stopping her.

Ruby frowned and said, annoyed, "Ms. Johnson, she's your sister. Can't you just talk it out?" Nora couldn't take it either and stepped in to stop Veda, saying gently,"This isn't your fault. Emily just doesn't want anyone to challenge her authority."

Then she glanced at Emily, "It's ridiculous. Why target your own sister?"

Suddenly, everyone was looking at Emily with a mix of disdain and contempt. Working for a boss like this was embarrassing.

Emily felt a pang in her heart. Scenes like this had played out countless times in the Johnson family.

She felt a slight heaviness in her chest. When Nora was about to speak up for Veda, Emily cut her off, "You're still in this department. How dare you slander me so openly? Well, the design department doesn't need someone who can't produce any designs. You can transfer."

For a designer, not being able to produce designs was the ultimate insult.

Nora's eyes filled with tears of anger, but she couldn't say a word in response.

Emily's voice was cold. "Ill give you half a month. If you can't secure the collaboration with the mobile game company Empire Glance, then resign."

Veda looked at Nora, her body trembling. Feeling sorry for her, Veda immediately spoke up, "Emily, she didn't mean it. You don't have to be so harsh. How can we let her bear it alone? Let's solve it together. As her superior, you should be encouraging."

Emily looked at Veda playing the peacemaker, raised an eyebrow, and sneered. "Why should everyone suffer for her mistake? Because of her, everyone's performance is affected." Those who wanted to defend Nora fell silent. They had all lost money and were a bit resentful towards Nora. Emily mocked, "Of course, if you don't care about losing tens of thousands of dollars in performance, I have no objection."

Everyone went quiet, and Nora's face turned pale, feeling totally humiliated.

Veda lowered her head and mumbled, "Sorry, I didn't know the situation."

Emily shot her a cold look. "Then don't speak."

Veda bit her lip, looking all hurt. Emily just rolled her eyes.

Ruby, watching the whole thing, quickly stepped in, "Let's stop this pointless arguing."

She gave Veda a look, shook her head slightly, then turned to Emily and said, "Ms. Johnson, from now on, all the design handover work with Golden Birch Group will be handled by Veda. She's on the same position as you and doesn't need to report to you."

Emily's eyes flashed with sarcasm. She wasn't planning to take responsibility for this mess, but handing it over to Veda out of nowhere did make her uncomfortable.

John had just come back to the company and was already acting like he ran the place, giving perks to his woman as he pleased.

Seeing Emily not objecting, Ruby said to Veda, "Ms. Veda Johnson, your office isready. Shall I take you to see it?"

Veda shook her head gently. "I want to talk with Emily."

Ruby nodded and left.

After Emily returned to her office, Veda followed with a smile. "Emily, Mom asked you to take care of me more."

Emily knew she was using Mia to provoke her.

A flash of anger crossed her eyes as she sneered. "Veda, you took away my parents and John. Now you want to mess with my work too?"

Veda looked all soft and innocent, making it hard to believe she was the same person who had jumped out of a window and heartlessly aborted a child.

She said, "Emily, you misunderstand me. I studied design myself, and I never took anything from you. They chose me."

Emily responded lazily, like she didn't care anymore. "I've always wondered, since you were already pregnant, you could've used the child to get into the Williams family. Why did you have an abortion?"

Even though they were alone, Veda kept up her act. "Emily, what are you talking about? I don't understand. My child, it's clearly yours..."

After a brief moment of sadness, she smiled gently. "Emily, I understand if you blame me for being with John."

Before marrying John, Emily could feel that John loved her, but she didn't know when it changed. John suddenly began to dislike her.

Thinking of the past, Veda's cheeks blushed slightly, feeling guilty and embarrassed, about to speak.

Emily clicked her tongue. "I have no interest in the dirty past between you two.Get out."

Veda didn't want her to misunderstand and hurriedly explained, "Emily, it' s not what you think, you..."

Emily coldly interrupted her. "Whatever happened between you two, don't cause trouble for me at work. I'm not as easy to push around as I was three years ago."

After Veda left the office, she sighed deeply.

Veda thought, 'Emily, because of you, all the glory that belonged to me has vanished. I'll make sure everyone turns agai
