Chapter 13

James didn't think she'd agree so quickly. Something felt off, but he shrugged it off.

Emily said, "Since I agreed, shouldn't you check out my design draft?"

She handed over the sketch.

James finally opened it. After a quick look, he didn't see any big issues since he trusted her skills.

Emily reminded him, "I agreed to move in with you, so you should send over the contract."

James hesitated for a moment but then sent the contract to the Williams Group.

Meanwhile, John was a bit shocked when he got the collaboration agreement.

He stood up, surprise flickering in his eyes before his face turned dark.

Seeing John's sour expression, the assistant tried to comfort him. "Mr.Williams, even though we didn't get the deal with the Golden Birch Group,we..."

John cut him off. "The contract just came through." The assistant was confused. "Well, that's good1. It shows your efforts paid off. And with this contract, no one can badmouth you at the company." John tightened his lips. He couldn't even meet James before. But as soon as Emily went over, the contract was sent directly. John didn't want to overthink it. Was it really just a coincidence?

After tidying up her clothes, Emily glanced at James and left without a word.

James watched her leave, squinting slightly and reminding her, "I'll be waiting for you at Crystal Valley Manor tonight."

Emily didn't even look back. At eight that evening, Emily was having a blast with friends in a private room when she got a call from James.

She snapped her fingers, signaling everyone to quiet down before answering.

James's voice was furious, "Emily! You liar!"

Emily lazily leaned back on the sofa, sensibly moving the phone away from her ear until James calmed down. Then she said, "Mr. Smith, what did I lie about?"

"You agreed to move into Crystal Valley Manor with me!"

Emily raised an eyebrow and calmly said, "Yes, but I didn't say when I'd move. Maybe in a few years, no rush."

By then, the contract would be finalized, and the Williams family would have their own connections.

James would be useless by then. James stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, imagining Emily's indifferent expression. His eyebrows twitched. "How did I not realize you were so shameless before?" Emily twirled her long hair with her fingertips and said softly, "You taught me well."

When James was messing with Emily in bed, he always act shamelessly.

James's expression turned cold. "I'll give you an hour. If you come over,I can let bygones be bygones!"

Emily smiled. "Mr. Smith, we've already settled our past. Good night."

Emily hung up decisively. Just as she was about to enjoy a drink, her phone beeped.

She looked down and saw that James had sent her a photo of a golden cage with a bed inside.

The more Emily looked at it, the more familiar it seemed. She instantly sprang up from the sofa, pursing her red lips.

How could she have forgotten about this? Before breaking up with James, she bought a golden cage, intending to give it to him.

But then John came back, so she had forgotten about it.

James: [Emily, who were you planning to imprison with this cage?]

Emily didn't dare to reply and acted as if she hadn't seen the messages.

Now she had lost interest in playing, so she bid farewell to her friends.

"How did Ms. Johnson manage to secure the collaboration when Mr.Williams spent so many days without any progress?" "What else could she do? She must've seduced Mr. Smith. When she joined the design department, she didn't even go through any assessment. They said it was to compensate her." "If she can't even keep an eye on her own husband, it's just incompetence."

The conversation from the bathroom drifted out, and Emily stopped in her tracks, leaning lazily against the door, listening quietly.

"If it weren't for the Williams family backing her, no one would appreciate her messy designs. Does she really think she's a savior?"

When the two women came out, Emily smiled, stood up straight, and in her sleeveless light blue dress that accentuated her waist, she looked gentle and spoke softly, "Sorry to surprise you, but I really am the savior."

John's departure at the wedding caused fluctuations in the Williams Group's stock, and many partners later demanded to terminate the contract due to poor designs. It was Emily who persuaded them one by one with her design drafts.

Thus, she maintained the Williams family's position in the jewelry industry.

Nora Adams, who had beentalking the most, felt embarrassed.

But since she had already said it, she didn't hide it anymore. "If it weren't for my leave during that time, I would have been the one sitting in the director's position."

Emily raised an eyebrow, smiling brightly. "I remember you couldn't handle the consequences of failure, so you gave up. How can you blame me now?"

After Emily took over the position, the subordinates had never been convinced. But as long as they worked diligently and didn't cause trouble for Emily, she naturally wouldn't bother. After all, she joined the Williams Group to work because no one else was capable. Without new design drafts, the partners would withdraw their investments, which would be a blow to the Williams Group.

And Emily wasn't there to make friends in thecompany.Whether she had this job or not didn't affect her.

Emily had many skills that were enough to ensure her livelihood for a lifetime.

Moreover, even Cassia's annual dividends were enough for her to spend lavishly.

Nora looked at her displeased. "Don't be smug. The company has been wanting to take away your rights for a long time. Once the collaboration with the Golden Birch Group is finalized, this credit definitely won't be yours!"

Emily just played with her hair and said indifferently, "It doesn't matter."

She left the club in high heels.

Nora stomped her foot in annoyance. She really disliked how Emily always seemed so effortlessly in control.

The next day.

When Emily arrived at work, she found everyone already gathered. The collaboration matters had been settled. James was not one to go back on his word. As for whether John could secure more profit-sharing,that was no longer her concern. There shouldn't have been anything special today until someone from the president's office came. He said directly to her, "Ms. Johnson, there will be a new person joining your design department today. She will be specifically responsible for expanding our futuire overseas design services."

Emily furrowed her brows, a hint of annoyance in her eyes. "You're bypassing me and assigning someone to the design department directly?"

The president's secretary, Ruby Hill, said, "Ms. Johnson, it's just a notification to you. She is of equal status to you."
