Chapter 155

Liam's face fell instantly. His fingers loosened their grip on Evelyn's arm as he took several steps back, his gaze dropping to the floor.

Evelyn couldn't comprehend his sudden change in mood, but she didn't care anymore. Her heart had already broken into pieces when she received that devastating text from Liam.

She no longer wanted to remain his wife - not when she knew he planned to marry Victoria immediately after Margaret's passing.

"Don't worry about upsetting Grandma, Liam. Her illness has erased all memory of me. Let's not delay this any longer and proceed with the divorce," Evelyn said quietly, swallowing the lump in her throat.

With visible pain in his voice, Liam asked softly, "Is this really what you want?"

"It is," Evelyn confirmed, her heart aching as tears threatened to spill.

For three long years, she had loved Liam with every fiber of her being. Whenever he visited Margaret, she would watch their interactions from a distance, lost in her own fantasies.

She had studied everything about him - probing Margaret for details about his preferences, his passions, his quirks, his past triumphs.

Her love for him never wavered, not even in her wildest dreams. But when she finally married him, she discovered his heart belonged to another.

Their marriage lacked the joy and fulfillment she had imagined. Seeing Liam's affection for Victoria twisted her heart with pain.

It was then Evelyn truly understood the agony of unrequited love within a marriage.

After a heavy silence, Liam asked solemnly, "Are you absolutely certain about this?"

Avoiding his gaze to hide her tears, Evelyn replied calmly, "I made this decision long ago. I've simply found the right moment to act."

Liam said nothing, merely lifting his eyes to the ceiling with a deep sigh.

Evelyn continued, "I trust you'll respect my choice. Let's end this peacefully."

With those final words, she turned to leave. But after only a few steps, Liam's unexpected response stopped her cold. "I can't simply accept your decision," he confessed.

Evelyn froze, struggling to contain her tears as sharp pain pierced her chest.

Liam was pushing her to the edge. He didn't love her, yet refused to let her go. Why cling to a marriage devoid of real affection?

She couldn't even perform basic household tasks or contribute financially. The hope of having children together seemed distant. They slept in separate beds, denying her even the warmth of his presence at night.

Tears streaming down her face, Evelyn steeled herself and spoke with icy resolve, "Then I'll file for divorce through legal channels."

She wiped her tears and marched forward, only for Liam to grab her arm again. His voice trembled with pain and regret as he reached for her.

Furious, Evelyn whirled around and violently shook off his grip. Through her tears, she cried out, "Enough! What do you want from me?"

Shocked by her outburst, Liam fell into heavy silence.

With anguish consuming her, Evelyn demanded, "What did I do to deserve this torment?"

"Who's tormenting whom here?" Liam countered, his eyes reddening with frustration as he rejected her accusation.

Wiping her tears, Evelyn shot back, "I married you for love, but you saw it differently. You claimed to respect me, promised to build a life together, yet your heart belongs to Victoria!"

"Whenever she calls, you come running. You even let her move into our home! Am I supposed to share my husband with another woman?"
