Chapter 142

Even though they were both women, Evelyn still felt uncomfortable. The doctor turned and noticed her frozen posture.

"You're not moving at all," the doctor observed with amusement.

The physician smiled knowingly. "I reviewed your medical records earlier. You've had this examination before. Why are you acting like a nervous schoolgirl now?"

Evelyn bit her lip self-consciously as she slowly removed her pants. Following instructions, she positioned herself on the examination table.

Her cheeks burned with embarrassment. Unable to bear the vulnerability, she turned her face away and shut her eyes tightly.

The doctor positioned herself between Evelyn's legs, beginning the examination with the speculum. Suddenly, the instrument clattered to the floor.

"You had a previous infection," the doctor said with a frown. "Was it from a blood transfusion?"

Evelyn's eyes flew open at the serious tone. Fear gripped her heart. "I...I don't remember. Has my condition returned?"

The doctor chuckled unexpectedly. "You can get dressed. No further examination is necessary."

Confused, Evelyn scrambled off the table. "Doctor? What's wrong? Why stop now?"

Removing her gloves, the physician explained while walking toward the door, "You're still a virgin. This exam would rupture your hymen. Without sexual history, there's no need. Wait outside for your bloodwork."

Evelyn stood rooted to the spot, shock rendering her immobile. The revelation hit her like a physical blow.

Rosalind had claimed she wasn't Evelyn. Now medical evidence confirmed her virginity. What did this mean? How had everything become so twisted?

After an agonizing wait, the test results arrived. The doctor reviewed them with a puzzled expression.

"Young lady," she began, "are you certain you're at the right clinic?"

Evelyn twisted her fingers anxiously. Rosalind placed a comforting arm around her shoulders.

"Just tell us straight," Rosalind urged.

The doctor tapped the papers. "Your hymen remains intact. No history of intercourse means no gynecological issues. All other tests are clean - no gonorrhea, no syphilis. You're perfectly healthy."

Tears welled in Evelyn's eyes. For years she'd carried shame about her supposed promiscuous past. The imagined sins had poisoned her self-worth.

She'd endured endless humiliation, believing herself tainted. Now came the stunning truth - she'd never been intimate with anyone.

Overwhelmed, Evelyn collapsed into Rosalind's arms, sobbing uncontrollably. Years of pent-up anguish poured out in wrenching cries.

The startled doctor stepped back. Rosalind quickly apologized and guided her distraught friend from the room.

Outside, other patients mistook Evelyn's tears for tragic news, casting pitying glances their way.

Only when they reached the hospital exit did Evelyn regain composure. She accepted the tissues Rosalind offered, wiping her swollen eyes.

"So," Rosalind said gently, "now you believe you're not Evelyn Carter?"

The last tear dried as determination hardened Evelyn's features. Her voice came out razor-sharp. "Keep this between us."

Rosalind blinked in confusion. "Don't you want to tell your family?"

Evelyn crushed the tissue in her fist. "If I'm not Evelyn Carter, then who am I? And who orchestrated this elaborate deception?"
