Chapter 141

The morning sun cast golden rays across the hospital entrance where Evelyn stood waiting. Her fingers tapped nervously against her purse strap until Rosalind appeared, cheeks flushed from running.

"Sorry I'm late," Rosalind panted, bending over to catch her breath.

Evelyn steadied her with a gentle hand. "I arrived too early. You didn't need to rush."

As Rosalind straightened, her gaze traveled up the sterile hospital facade. "Are you ill?" she asked between breaths.

Evelyn shook her head.

When Rosalind had recovered, she lowered her voice. "Then why meet at a hospital?"

Leaning in, Evelyn's cheeks turned pink. "I need to check if my old condition has returned." She twisted her fingers together. "I couldn't face this alone."

Rosalind's eyes widened in surprise.

The awkward silence stretched until Evelyn confessed, "I've been married for months. My husband knew my medical history, so we never... until last night—"

"You're married?" Rosalind's voice cracked with disbelief.

Evelyn nodded.

Rosalind's expression darkened. "So after one night together, you're rushing to a gynecologist?"

Evelyn glanced around before giving a sheepish nod.

Suddenly, Rosalind pinched Evelyn's nose.

"Ow! What—"

"Natural," Rosalind declared. "No implants."

Before Evelyn could react, Rosalind squeezed her cheeks and peered at her teeth. "All real." Then her hands moved toward Evelyn's chest.

Evelyn jumped back, arms crossed. "What are you doing?"

Rosalind's voice remained steady. "Small but real."

Evelyn gaped at her.

"I knew from the start," Rosalind said quietly. "You're not Evelyn."

The words hit like a physical blow.

Rosalind looked away, guilt lining her features. "I needed money for my father's treatment. When you pretended to be Evelyn and helped, I let it happen. But I always knew."

Evelyn grabbed Rosalind's wrist. "I've done two DNA tests at top hospitals. How can you be so sure?"

Tears welled in Rosalind's eyes. "Because the real Evelyn was selfish since childhood. We video-called until three years ago. No amount of plastic surgery could change her nature. You're nothing like her."

Evelyn exhaled shakily. "My husband doubted me too, but his people supervised the second test."

Rosalind squared her shoulders. "Then let's see whose truth wins."

Inside the hospital, Evelyn's hands trembled during the blood draw, Rosalind's words echoing in her mind.

The doctor gestured to the examination table. "Remove your pants and lie down."

Heat flooded Evelyn's face as shyness overwhelmed her.
