Chapter 79

"She doesn't have any beef with you. Why are you giving the new girl a hard time?" Giselle Montague, sitting across from Isabella, couldn't help but speak up when she saw Bronte being difficult.

Bronte shot back, "Giselle, you've been here for a long time. How can you not see it? It's not me but Ms. Thorne's orders. Are you planning to go against her?"

Giselle just sighed and went back to her work.

Isabella waited by the elevator, hoping to hitch a ride to the top floor with someone, but after three minutes, the elevator hadn't budged.

She returned to the officewith the documents and handed them to Bronte."I'm sorry. My employee card doesn't let me go to the top floor to get Mr.Wright's signature."

"If you can't go up, figure it out. Telling me won't help," Bronte said coldly.

"Can I borrow your card?" Isabella asked, clinging to a shred of hope.

Bronte laughed. "Are you serious? An employee card is like a driver's license; you can't just lend it out. Besides, if I lend it to you and you mess up, it all comes back to me! How you get the signature is your problem.Don't bother me again."

Isabella had no choice. Since no one would open the elevator for her,she decided to head to the first floor, where there were more people coming and going. Maybe someone would be heading to the top floor.

A middle-aged, balding man walked over and asked, "Hey, what are you doing here?"

"I need to go to the top floor, but my employee card doesn't have access,"Isabella explained softly.

The man suggested, "I can help you! Our maintenance department can go to any floor."

"Really?" Isabella said excitedly, "Could you take me up there?"

The man moved closer, brushing against Isabella's body. Feeling uncomfortable, Isabella stepped back and looked at him warily.

Seeing her reaction, the man realized he wouldn't get anything out of her and quickly changed his tune, "It's not that easy. The top floor's maintenance is separate and not under our control."

With that, he walked away, leaving Isabella standing there.

Isabella then encountered several people getting on the elevator, but none could help her.

She finally understood what Michael meant when he said people at headquarters were cold.

Michael had been waiting for a while after work, but Isabella hadn't come out. Thinking something might have happened, he called her. "Isabella, are you off work? Why haven't you come out yet?"

"Michael, you should go ahead without me," Isabella said. "I have a document that needs Mr. Wright's signature, but I can't get to the top floor.

"

Michael said, "Then find someone who can go up to get the signature."

As soon as he said this, he realized it wasn't about finding someone else to get the signature; Isabella was being given a hard time but was too embarrassed to tell him.

"Just wait. Maybe you'll find someone willing to take you to the top floor,"Michael said before hanging up.

Isabella was speechless, thinking he would come up with a good idea to help her.

Michael hung up on Isabella and called Jeremy. "Hey,Jeremy, where are you?... Come to the office. I'm waiting downstairs... It's not convenient to discuss this over the phone. Just come over; we need to talk in person...

Jeremy, please, I really need your help!"

Reluctantly, Jeremy got out of bed and headed to the office.

"Waiting for someone?" A clear male voice sounded behind Isabella.

She turned around to see a refined man with gold-rimmed glasses.

"Oh, I'm sorry, sir. Am I in your way?" Isabella said, moving aside.

Jeremy swiped his card and entered the elevator, saying, "Aren't you coming up?"

Isabella pointed to herself, "Can I?"

Jeremy nodded.

The elevator went straight to the top floor. Jeremy stepped out,and Isabella followed.

It was only then that she realized she didn't know Mr. Wright or where he was.

The top floor was quiet, and Isabella didn't know which way to go. Finally, she mustered the courage to ask, "Excuse me, sir, whereis Mr. Wright's office?"

Jeremy paused, then understood. He said, "Follow me."

He led her to an office door, unlocked it with a fingerprint scan and facial recognition, and took her inside.

Jeremy sat behind the desk. Seeing Isabella's stunned expression,he smiled and introduced himself, "I'm Jeremy Wright, the one you're looking for."

"You're Mr. Wright?" Isabella was both happy and surprised.

Jeremy adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and nodded with a smile.

Isabella happily took out the document, respectfully handed it to Jeremy, and said, "Mr. Wright, I'm Isabella from the Design Department. I have a document that needs your signature."

Jeremy glanced through it, picked up a pen, and signed his name.

"Thank you, Mr. Wright." Isabella was so excited, on the verge of tears, giving Jeremy a deep bow. She had been prepared to stay until the document was signed, not expecting it to be so easy.

"You're welcome. It's already after hours. Go home quickly so no one has to wait for you," Jeremy said with a smile.

"How did you know someone was waiting for me?" Isabella asked, surprised.

Jeremy explained, "I saw him when I came back to the office. He asked me what time we get off work. You two look like a good match, so I guessed he was waiting for you."

Isabella blushed, bowed to Jeremy again, and left with the document.

After she left, Jeremy let out a long sigh of relief. He hadn't been feeling well and had a bit of a cold, so he went home early. Just as he was taking cold medicine and sweating under the covers, he got a call from Michael asking him to come back and help Isabella get to the top floor.

As a company vice president, he had specifically returned to sign a document for a new employee. There was probably no one else like himin all of Silvercrest City.

Isabella returned to the office and handed the document to Bronte.

Bronte looked at her in disbelief and asked, "Did you get someone to forge the signature?"

Isabella said calmly, "See for yourself."

Bronte took it out and saw that it was indeed Jeremy's handwriting. She muttered to herself, "That's impossible. Mr. Wright left early this afternoon.

Isabella said sternly, "So you knew Mr. Wright wasn't here. You sent me to get the signature on purpose to make things difficult for me? It's my first day, and I have no grudge against you. Why are you doing this?"

Bronte said angrily, "You have the nerve to ask why! Most people in our department work their way up from the bottom. But you got in through connections, breaking our department's tradition and dragging us down. You can ask around; no one in the department welcomes you! And don't complain. Ms. Thorne is the one who dislikes you the most. If you have any self-awareness, resign voluntarily and stop being a nuisance here."
