Chapter 67
Kathie was the one who performed Kaitlyn's surgery initially. Now that Kaitlyn was having complications, the doctors couldn't figure out the problem, so they had to call Kathie back to take a look.
Kathie understood the situation. Since she had operated on Kaitlyn, she felt responsible for seeing it through.
"Got it, I'll be there right away," she replied.
The research institute wasn't far from the hospital, and Kathie arrived in just over ten minutes.
Clayton met her at the entrance, handing her the latest test results and explaining Kaitlyn's condition in detail.
After listening, Kathie understood. "We did multiple surgeries on her at once. Her body was too weak to recover properly, and now she's been further stressed, causing poor blood circulation."
As they spoke, they reached the hospital room. Shirley's eyes widened in shock when she saw Kathie. "Why is that bitch Kathie here again?"
Randy scolded her angrily, "Shutup,Kathie is here to treat Mom."
Shirley wouldn't let it go. "I bet you just wanted an excuse to see her again and rekindle your old flame."
"Can you stop causing trouble? Didn't you see Mom was so upset she coughed up blood?"
No wonder the report showed Kaitlyn had liver congestion. Kathie had found the cause.
"Are you idiots? This is a critical recovery period for the patient. She needs peace and quiet. If you want to argue, do it outside. And Shirley, watch
your mouth."
Kaitlyn sighed weakly. Her biggest regret was letting Shirley into their family.
Shirley, a shrew, couldn't compare to Kathie.
Shirley tried to shift the blame. "It's not my fault Mom fainted because you upset her..."
Randy slapped Shirley, silencing her. Before she could react, he grabbed her hand and dragged her out, apologizing to Kathie, "Sorry, Kathie. Please take care of my mom. I'll deal with Shirley."
To avoid disturbing Kathie's treatment, Randy forcibly took Shirley away.
Kathie sighed in relief. At least it was quiet now.
"Randy, if you abandon me, I'll fight you to the end!" Shirley warned.
"Shirley, get a grip. Your dad disowned you, and your mom's in jail. What do you have left? You think you can trap me with a child? You should be keeping a low profile. If you keep acting up, I'll kick you out right now,"Randy snapped back.
Shirley's support was gone. Walter had abandoned her, and Randy was her last hope.
"You can't be so heartless. I've been with you for five years. You promised to marry me," she said.
"Look at yourself. You're no different from a shrew. We're not married.Breaking up is just a word away for me, so you'd better not provoke me.Now get out."
Their loud argument drew the attention of the nurses, who whispered among themselves.
"Tll leave, but you can't be with Kathie!" Shirley shouted.
Randy rolled his eyes, not taking her seriously.
Seeing his anger. Shirley didn't dare to argue further and left reluctantly.
Randy returned to the room, where Kathie was already performing acupuncture. Seeing his mother's face regain some color, he felt relieved.
"Kathie, I never realized you were so skilled," he said.
"There's'a prescription on the table. Give it to her twice a day. She needs to rest and recover during this period," Kathie replied.
Kaitlyn looked at her with admiration. "Randy, you need to thank Kathie properly. Without her, I wouldn't have made it through."
Kathie responded calmly, "I'm a doctor. It's my job to save lives.'I'd do the same for anyone."
Her words made it clear she didn't want to get involved with their family.
Randy looked at her tenderly. "Don't worry, Mom. I'll thank her properly."
Kaitlyn gave him a look, hinting that if he really liked Kathie,he still had a chance to win her back.
Kathie removed the acupuncture needles, and Kaitlyn took adeep breath."
It doesn't hurtanymore. I actually feel relaxed."
"If there's nothing else, I'll be going." Kathie said flatly.
Randy stood up, eagerly offering to carry her bag. "T'll walk you out."
Kathie took her bag back, replying coldly, "I can manage on my own."
Randy followed her out. "Let me treat you to dinner to thank you for coming."
"No need. It's best if we act like strangers."
"Kathie, I know I was wrong. Can you give me another chance? Ever since you came back. I can't stop thinking about you. I don't want a divorce.I want to be a father to your threekids."
Kathie stopped and stared at him. "Why don't you admit it's because I've become more attractive and successful that you don't want a divorce? You're tired of Shirley and the other women. You need something new."
"It's not like that. I've always loved you. I just realized it now. I'll treat you well."
"Forget it, Randy. I'm ready to divorce. Prepare the papers, and we'll finalize it tomorrow."
At this point, Kathie saw no reason to delay the divorce.
Randy grabbed her, insisting, "No matter what, I won't divorce you. I'll win you back."
Kathie shook him off, looking at him like he was crazy. He had chased her for a divorce, and now that she agreed, he refused.
"If you won't divorce, I'll sue. Don't forget, we've been separated for four years. The court can grant a divorce."
Randy realized he could have done this sooner.
"I won't divorce," he insisted.
Kathieignored him and quickly walked to her car, driving away.
Randy watched her leave, his eyes full of longing, while Henry shook his head behind him.
Henry had come to pick up some documents and saw Kathie and Randy's
confrontation.
Kathie really had a way of manipulating the Berkeley family. He couldn't let her get close to Jonathan.
Henry immediately called Patricia.
Patricia was with Tiffany when she saw Henry's call and stepped outside
to answer. "Henry, I'm in Jonathan's office. What's up?"
"Patricia, I just saw Kathie and her husband at the hospital. She's very manipulative. You need to secure Jonathan."
"Don't worry. Jonathan's parents are on my side."
"Good, I'll help you too."
Patricia returned to the office and overheard Jonathan talkíng to his mother.
"Mom. I've told you I won't marry Patricia. You need to let go of that hope.
"Why not? Patricia is a wonderful girl. Do you really like Kathie, the country girl? She has three kids and isn't even divorced yet."
"I have my own plans. I won't marry Patricia, so give up."
Patricia clenched her fists. She couldn't believe he would say such things after all these years. He showed no regard for her feelings.
