Chapter 66
Jonathan watched Gerald's pretentious display, arms crossed, glaring up at him. "Gerald, we might not know who's gonna win yet, but if I find out who tried to kill me. I'll tear them apart."
Gerald's expression shifted, but he quickly forced a smile. "Jonathan, with your arrogant attitude, you've made plenty of enemies. There are a lot of people in Eldoria who want you dead."
Jonathan shot back, "And does that include you?"
Everyone's eyes turned to Gerald, making him visibly uneasy. Rumors had been circulating that Jonathan's car accident was orchestrated by Gerald and Harold.
"Alright, Gerald, take your son and leave. If you stay any longer, you might not have any dignity left," Jonathan said coldly.
Gerald stormed off, vowing to one day dethrone Jonathan.
Jonathan took his seat at the head of the table, and the atmosphere in the conference room changed instantly. The previously defiant shareholders fell silent. Everyone knew Jonathan's methods-those who worked with him made a lot of money, but those who opposed him faced dire consequences.
"Everyone, I know a lot has happened recently. I'm already working to make up for all the losses. Within a week, everything will be back on track,"Jonathan said.
The room erupted in applause. He added, "You all know my temper. If anyone tries to mess with me, don't blame me for retaliating."
The board members quickly agreed, relieved to have him back in charge.
Those with other plans quickly abandoned them, not daring to challenge
him.
In the hallway. Harold was fuming. "Dad, wasn't Jonathan supposed to be dead? How did he come back without us hearing a thing?"
Gerald's face was grim. "Then we'll just have to make sure he dies again."
Harold grabbed his arm, nervous. "What do you mean by that? Did you have something to do with his accident?"
Gerald's eyes were unreadable. "Don't worry about it. In Eldoria, there are plenty of people who want him dead. The head of the Berkeley Family will be you."
The Berkeley Group traditionally had the eldest male of the main family as the head. This time, it should have been Gerald,or at least Harold, the first grandson. But Jonathan's grandfather had chosen Jonathan, the youngest grandson, causing much discontent.
Jonathan's business acumen had doubled the group's profits in just four years, making him the richest man in Eldoria. His subordinates were loyal, and Gerald and Harold's status had plummeted.
"Grandpa was biased. I have to fight for what's mine, no matter what it takes," Harold said.
"That's my boy. I'll help you."
Gerald patted his shoulder. Harold spotted a familiar figure ahead. "Dad,you go ahead. I have something to take care of."
Gerald left without asking questions, needing to find a way to eliminate Jonathan.
Patricia was just turninga corner when Harold blocked her path.
"Patricia, long time no see. You're even more charming than before," he
said.
Patricia tried to sidestep him, but Harold spread his arms to block her."Don't be so cold. I had my entire company vote for your new song. Can't you see? I'm the only one who truly cares about you."
Patricia rolled her eyes. "Harold, no one asked you to do that. Move aside,I don't like you."
Harold taunted, "Jonathan doesn't like you either, yet you still follow him around. He's crippled now. What fun is there in being with him?"
Patricia snapped back, "Who says he doesn't like me? I've been the only one by his side all these years."
Harold hooked a finger in her hair, a playful smile on his face. "Do you really not know why he keeps you around? It's because you saved him once. It's gratitude, not love. You won't be happy with him."
Patricia's eyes flashed with panic, but she shook her head. "No, Jonathan loves me. I've called him my boyfriend on TV many times, and he's never denied it."
Harold laughed. "Fool. He's using you as a shield. Everyone knows he doesn't like women, and they suspect his orientation. With you around, it dispels those doubts."
Patricia had considered this before. Despite her efforts, she couldn't make Jonathan fall for her. But he looked at Kathie differently; he clearly liked women.
"No matter what you say, I won't leave him unless he tells me himself that he doesn't love me," she retorted.
Patricia tried to push past him, but he pinned her against the wall and kissed her hard. She bit him, and he let go, wincing in pain.
Harold's lip was bleeding, but he wasn't angry. He wiped the blood away, eyes full of mischief. "Patricia, you're even more enticing than before. I wonder if your skills in bed have improved too."
Patricia looked around nervously, warning him, "Don't talk nonsense. I'll never choose you."
Harold grinned. "I like your fiery spirit. I've set my sights on you."
"You're crazy!"
Patricia stormed off. Harold wanted everything Jonathan had, includíng the women around him.
Patricia needed to find a way to shut Harold up. If Jonathan heard about this,it would be bad for her.
She stopped, realizing that Kathie's children resembled Harold. Could he be their father?
Harold was notorious for his affairs. It wouldn't be surprising if he had slept with Kathie and fathered her children.
If that were true, it could work in her favor.
Patricia entered the CEO's office, where William and his wife were talking to Jonathan.
She politely greeted them.
Tiffany Anderson beamed at her. "Patricia, come here. We were just talking about you."
Patricia's bright eyes looked at them innocently, making her even more .endearing. "What were youtalking about?"
William smiled. "We were saying you and Jonathan are a perfect match.
Now that he's back, we want you two toget married soon."
Tiffany held her hand. "Patricia, I want you to be Jonathan's wife. Will you marry him?"
Patricia was well-liked by the couple and believed Jonathan loved her. After all these years, he must have feelings for her.
She blushed and nodded. "Of course, I will. I've always seen Jonathan as my future husband."
"You're such a good girl. Jonathan, we're waiting for the good news."Tiffany hadurged him many times.
Jonathan, seeing their enthusiasm, frowned. It was time to have a serious talk with his mother.
At noon. Kathie had just left the research institute when she got a call from Clayton.
"Mr. Watson, what's up?" she asked.
"Dr. Cavendish, please come to the hospital. Kaitlyn is having complications."
