Chapter 34
The next morning, at the crack of dawn, Kathie shook Jonathan awake.
Jonathan opened his eyes and yawned. "Kathie, why are you waking me up so early? If I don't get enough sleep, I won't recover."
Kathie gritted her teeth and pushed the wheelchair to the side of the bed."You have one minute to get up."
Seeing her angry face, Jonathan decided it was best not to provoke her.Poor him, the head of the Berkeley Family, being bossed around by a woman. No wonder Keith made fun of him. Even Jonathan couldn't help but look down on himself.
"What's wrong? Why are you so cranky this morning? " Jonathan asked.
Kathie wheeled the chair back to his room and pointed at the perfectly intact ceiling and the dry bed. "Didn't you say the roof was leaking and your bed was soaked?"
Jonathan shrugged, "Well, maybe the ceiling fixed itself and the bed dried on its own."
Kathie hadn't slept well the previous night, while he had slept comfortably. Before dawn, she had rushed to Jonathan's room to check, to prevent him from sneaking into her room again. She found out that his room wasn't leaking at all; it was all a lie.
She smirked. "Seven, lying is bad. It's a sickness that needs treatment.I'll bring you some medicine later and make sure you drink it all, without any sugar."
Jonathan knew he was in trouble. He had angered Kathie again.11Iwas actually afraid of the dark, that's why I came to you." "Stop trying to argue. My decision is final, so just deal with it."
Kathie stormed out, determined to teach him a lesson. He always tried to tease her. Jonathan regretted it deeply. Why did he have to provoke her?Now he was really in for it.
Kathie went to the kitchen and decisively added a handful of extremely bitter herbs tothe medicine pot, ensuring that after drinking it, he would behave for the next two days.
At noon, Melinda called to invite Kathie for an afternoon shopping trip. She asked her three kids to join, but they refused.
Kathie couldn't believe it. "You really don't want to go shopping? Melinda will take us for steak and fried chicken, buy you ice cream and snacks, and you still don't want to go?"
In the past, whenever Kathie asked, the kids would eagerly agree.
Kyle, dressed in sportswear, said seriously, "Today, Seven is teaching us how to skip stones. I saw him the other day, and he's amazing. I want to learn too."
Zachary nodded. "He has prepared ring toss games to train our aim and balance. We don't have tíme to go with you."
Eileen, holding atowel, said, "Mommy, you go ahead. I need to take care of my brothers and cheer them on."
Because of Jonathan, her kids no longer clung to her. Anyone who didn't know better might think Jonathan was their biological father.
Kathie confirmed again, "You really don't want to go? Mommy is leaving, don't cry at home." The three kids waved. "Have fun, Mommy." Kathie looked at Jonathan's smug expression. If this continued, the kids would all be won over by him.
Jonathan grinned. "Kathie, go ahead. It's fine if you come back late. I'll take care of things here."
Kathie gritted her teeth. She couldni't believe the kids wouldn't go with her.Even as she started the car and made noise on purpose, the kids showed no intention of joining her. She drove off, feeling a bit down. It seemed her kids were really growing up and had their own minds.
Kathie arrived at the mall where she was meeting Melinda. Just as she was about to go in, a large hand grabbed her.
"Randy? What the hell are you doing? Let go."
"Kathie, come with me. We need to talk."
Kathie slapped his hand away. "If you don't let go, I'll scream for help."
Randy didn't stop and dragged her towards the parking lot. "Screaming won't help. Don't forget, we're legally married. Even if someone comes,I'lI say it's a marital issue, and the police won't interfere."
"You shameless jerk! Do you believe I'll cripple you?"
Kathie regretted not bringing her acupuncture needles. Otherwise, she would have jabbed him a few times.
"You refused to divorce, and now I don't want to either. I don't blame you for what happened last time. Just live with me properly."
"You really are shameless, saying such things."
.Kathie stomped on his foot, and as he bent down in pain, she punched him in the nose and pushed him away, running off. Randy, enraged, chased after her. "Don't think you can escape. Stop right there!"
Kathie ran to the roadside, where a car pulled up. The window rolled down, revealing a handsome, androgynous man.
He raised his chin and said, "Miss, need some help?"
Kathie looked at the stranger, anxious but hesitant to get into a stranger's car.
Randy was catching up. Just as he reached for Kathie, the man in the car stopped him.
"Isn't this Mr. Berkeley? Broad daylight, and you're trying to kidnap a woman?" the man asked.
Randy was surprised. "Keith? It's you. So you two know each other."
Kathie was also taken aback. This legendary figure, Keith, was so stunningly beautiful.
Keith shrugged, not denying it. After all, he had seen Kathie'sphoto and knew who she was.
Kathie was confused by Keith's reaction. It seemed like he knew her.
Randy grabbed her hand. "She's my wife. We had a fight, and I'm taking her home. Mr. Gray, you wouldn't interfere in a domestic matter, would you?"
Kathie quickly shook her head and explained to Keith, "No, I have nothing to do with him."
.Keith opened the car door and approached Randy. "Did you hear that? The lady said she has nothing to do with you, Let go." Randy was frustrated. He had finaly caught Kathie, and now Keith was interfering.
"Mr. Gray, if you don't believe me, you can investigate. Her name is Kathie, and she's my legal wife," Randy said.
"I don't care if she is or isn't. As long as she doesn't want to go with you,you can't take her. I won't say it again. If you don't let go, don't blame me for being rude," Keith retorted.
Keith couldn't stand by and watch Kathie be bullied, especially since she had helped Jonathan.,
He had seen Randy chasing her while driving by and followed to ensure her safety.
Randy didn't dare provoke Keith and angrily let go of Kathie's hand.
"Kathie, don't think that finding a protector means I won't touch you.I don't believe he can protect you forever. Don't forget, we're still legally married. I can always find a way to bring you back," he snorted.
Keith opened the car door for Kathie. "Miss, no need to argue with him.Get in."
This time, Kathie didn't hesitate and got in the car, avoiding further entanglement with Randy.
Randy watched her get into Keith's car, clenching his fists in anger.Kathie had said she didn't know Keith, so why was Keith protecting her?
Maybe Kathie and Keith had an improper relationship behind his back. If she could be with other men, why couldn't he?
