Chapter 90

"Hey, don't sweat it. I wouldn't let you take the blame even if this is about me. What kind of guy would I be then?"

Jasper's eyes were so full of tenderness, that it looked like they might overflow.

Charlotte glanced away, feeling a bit awkward.

She felt a pang of guilt. It seemed like she kept troublng him, always owing him more and more, without being able to return his feelings.

How was she ever going to repay this debt?

"Jasper. I won't say much. , thank you."

Charlotte's gratitude was genúine. Besides a simple thank you, she didn't know what else to say.

Jasper shook his head, his gaze still gentle.

Just then, the door to the hospital room flew open, and someone rushed in.

"Charlotte! Are you okay? Who the hell did this to you? I'll kill them!"

Charlotte recognized the voice immediately and smiled indulgently."Calm down, I'm fine."

Taylor stormed over to the bed, shoving Jasper aside to take the chair next to Charlotte.

She looked at Charlotte's weary expression and reached to touch it, her voice trembling."Who did this to you? Are you hurt? I'll make them pay!" Charlotte felt a warm sensation in her heart seeing Taylor so worried about her.

But before she could respond. Jasper spoke up calmly, "No need. They're already dead."

There was a hint of darkness in Jasper's eyes, clearly displeased that Taylor had taken his place.

Taylor turned sharply to Jasper. "You..."

She hesitated, as if wanting to say something, but ultimately held back.

Charlotte found it odd. It'seemed like the siblings were hiding something from her.

Taylor frowned as Jaspergave her a warning look.

"Charlotte," Taylor turned back to her, "What happened? How did you end up getting kidnapped in such a remote place?"

Charlotte's eyes dimmed at the memory, but she recounted the day's events briefly, leaving out the vulgar things those men had said. She didn't want to worry them.

After all, those men were dead, and she hadn't been physically harmed.

There was no need to bring it up and make them angry.

"They deserved it!" Even so,Taylor was still furious.

She pounded the bed, making it rattle. "Those bastards! Death was too good for them. If they were still alive, I'd make them wish they were dead!"

Charlotte just smiled and patted her shoulder gently. Taylor, still frowning, couldn't let it go. She looked at Charlotte. "And what about Frederick? Something this big happens, and he doesn't even show up? You two aren't even divorced yet. Even if you were, he shouldn't just ignore you like this!"

"Don't mention him. I don't want to talk about him. I chose to get out of the car myself. I don't want to tell him about this."

At the mention of Frederick's name, a shadow crossed Charlotte's eyes.

"Why not tell him. Charlotte? Don't be foolish!"

Taylor was vehemently opposed to Charlotte's decision. "Even íf you chose to get out, he shouldn't have left you alone in such a place! It was getting dark, and it was dangerous for you to be alone! How could he just leave you there? Damn it! Men are all the same!"

Jasper coughed awkwardly, but Taylor shot him a glare.

"Don't cough. Men are all the same, always have been, always will be,"Taylor said coldly, her voice full of resentment.

Jasper gave her a long look, his tone slightly sarcastic. "Is that why you dress like a man?"

"Not worth discussing with you."

Taylor rolled her eyes at him. "I'm staying to take care of Charlotte tonight. You can leave,"

Jasper's eyes, which had been gentle, suddenly turned cold, and the atmosphere around him became intimidating.

But when Charlotte looked at him, he softened again. "I should stay. I'm a doctor. I cani spot any issues immediately. What do you know?"

Taylor wanted to argue but felt the pressure from Jasper.

But Charlotte was her friend, and she wouldn't back down. "Charlotte's fine now. There are doctors outside. If anything happens, I can call them. You're a man, and it's inconvenient for you to stay. No matter how much I dress like a man, I'ma still a woman. You can't compare to that."

Jasper didn't respond. The tension between the siblings was palpable.

Charlotte finally managed to get a word in. "Jasper, thank you, but I'm fine now. You should go home and rest. Taylor can stay with me."

Taylor had a point. It was a bit inconvenient with Jasper around.

Like now, she needed to use the bathroom but felt too embarrassed to say so in front of him.

"Alright, I'll go. The police want me to come in for a statement anyway.I Il probably be at the station all night. Call me if you need anything."

Jasper wanted to say more, but Taylor pushed him out.

"Enough with the nagging. We're not kids."

Taylor shut the door behind him, her triumphant expression making Charlotte laugh.

"I remember you used to be scared of Jasper. How come you're standing up to him now?"

Taylor's eyes flickered, then she shrugged it off with a laugh. "That was when I was younger. I'm grown up now, so I'm not scared anymore."

Charlotte shook her head with a smile. "Help me to the báthroom. I've been holding it in forever."

Taylor helped her to the bathroom and then stepped out.

Sitting on the toilet, Charlotte's smile faded.

Today's events had been too sudden. Those men had died too quickly, leaving her with no evidence to report to the police.

They weren't random strángers. Their reactions and conversations when she offered double the price made it clear they were following orders.

But who could it be?
