Chapter 89
After the crash. Charlotte felt a warm flow from her lower body as her consciousness began to fade.
With great effort. she reached down and brought her hand back up.stained with bright red blood.
"My baby!" She cried out in agony, and everything went black.
"Charlotte! Charlotte!"
As she completely lost consciousness, it seemed like someone was calling her, but she couldn't respond and passed out entirely.
Charlotte didn't know how much time had passed when the sound of machines woke her up.
She slowly opened her eyes, seeing only pure white. A fluorescent light hung overhead, its harsh brightness making her pupils contract.
Where was she? Could this be heaven?
Just as Charlotte thought she might be dead, a gentle and concerned voice reached her ears.
"Charlotte, you're awake! Can you hear me? If you can hear me, blink your eyes."
Charlotte wanted to turn her head to see who was speaking, but she couldn't move.
The gentle voice continued, "The anesthesia hasn't worn off yet, so you can't move for now. Just blink your eyes."
Gradually calming down, Charlotte blinked in response.
"Great, as long as you're conscious. Rest a bit more, and the anesthesia will wear off soon."
Charlotte drifted back into a hazy sleep until she fully regained consciousness and recognized the voice.
She opened her eyes and turned her head, asking, "Jasper, my baby."
"Don't worry. The baby is fine." Jasper gently held Charlotte's arm. "Your abdomen took a hit, and there was some bleeding, but the baby is healthy.
You need to rest and recover."
"Okay."
Charlotte's tense nerves slowly relaxed.
This child was unfortunate to have a mother like her. She wasn't a competent mom. But since the baby had chosen to stay with her, she swore to make it up a thousand times over.
"Charlotte, keep resting. Don't worry, I'll be here with you. Just open your eyes, and you'll see me."
Jasper gently smoothed her hair, his eyes filled with deep affection.
Charlotte didn't want to close her eyes. She looked at him and asked,"How did you find me? My phone was taken by those two men, and I didn't send you my location."
Now that her mind was clear, Charlotte remembered hearing Jasper's voice during the crash. But that place was so remote. How did Jasper find the car that had kidnapped her so precisely? Mentioning those two men, a coId glint flashed in Jasper's eyes.
Jasper softly explained, "After you hung up, you didn't send your location for a long time. I thought your phone had died, but I could still call you.and no one answered. I figured you might be unconscious and unable to answer, so I contacted a tech-savvy friend to scan the cell towers and locate your phone."
He then apologized quietly, "I know it was intrusive to track you, but I was worried something had happened to you. I'm sorry."
Charlotte shook her head gently. "I'm grateful you came. Don't apologize."
Jasper looked at her intently. "When I saw your phone signal moving quickly, I thought someone might be taking you to the hospital. But the car was heading in a direction with no hospitals. I was so anxious that I accidentally crashed into the car you were in, almost hurting you and the baby. I owe you an apology."
Jasper's words were sincere, and his apology heartfelt.
Charlotte felt a lump in her throat.
If Jasper hadn't come to save her, she couldn't imagine what terrible things might have happened if those two men had taken her away.
Even if the baby hadn't survived, it wouldn't have been Jasper's fault.
It was her fault for being so helpless.
"What happened to those two men? Did you call the police?"
Charlotte's hands clenched involuntarily, and her body trembled with anger as she mentioned those scumbags. Jasper's expression darkened. "They're both dead."
"Dead?" Charlotte was surprised.
She had wanted those scumbags dead but hadn't expected it to happen."How did they die?"
Jasper continued, "When I crashed into the car, one of the men, the red-haired one, had a knife. He might have had it for protection, but the impact caused the knife to stab his artery, killing him instantly."
"Serves him right! He got what he deserved!" Charlotte said.
She remembered the red-haired man pulling out a knife to threaten her after forcing her into the car, saying he'd scar her face if she didn't behave.
Who knew the knife he prepared would end up taking his own life?
"And the other one?" Charlotte asked.
Jasper explained, "The other man was in the driver's seat. The carhit the guardrail, trapping his legs. I was in a hurry to get you out, so I left him there. The police just informed me that the car's gas tank leaked and caught fire after we left. He couldn't get out and was burned alive."
Jasper's tone was calm and deached, as if he were talking about an ant.
Charlotte felt a chill down her spine and shivered.
Being trapped and burned alive was a horrifying way to die.
Charlotte felt that those men got what they deserved, but their deaths seemed almost too easy, making it feel a bit unreal.
"Jasper, will their deaths cause trouble for you? If the police come after you,
don't admit to anything. I'll take the blame. I'm pregnant; they won't do much to me," Charlotte spoke earnestly.
Jasper had helped her so much. If this incident implicated him, she would feel guilty.
"Silly girl." Jasper's eyes softened. He raised his hand and gently stroked Charlotte's head. "Don't worry, I'll be fine. Those men were criminals, wanted fugitives. This time, the evidence is clear. Their deaths might even earn me a bravery award."
"That's good1." Charlotte smiled slightly, feeling a weight lift off her chest.
Though it was two lives lost, those men deserved it. If they had escaped, who knows how many more innocent people they would have harmed.
