Chapter 66
Gavin saw that the situation was getting out of hand and immediately stepped in to mediate.
"Charlotte, don't get so furious. Frederick didn't mean it that way. Don't misunderstand him. If you give him a chance to explain, I'm sure you two can resolve this."
Charlotte sneered and looked at Gavin. "You asked me to come here,so I came. But I think there's no point in continuing this conversation any further."
Serena quickly chimed in, "Exactly, I said at home that I could take care of Frederick. There's no need for outsiders to interfere. Right,Frederick?"
Frederick's amnesia was a stroke of luck for Serena. If she could successfully get Charlotte and Frederick to divorce, her first task would be complete.
"Serena, you go back. Let her stay," Frederick said, deciding to let Charlotte stay.
"Why? Are you worried I can't take care of you?" Serena's big eyes immediately welled up with tears, ready to fall.
Frederick reached out to gently pat her head and said softly, "Itold you, you're pregnant and can't stay to take care of me. But Charlotte and I are still not divorced, so she must stay and take care of me." Charlotte instinctively touched her belly. Her heart was full of anger and resentment. She was not valued, and her child had to suffer with her."But..." Serena wanted to say more, but Frederick whispered a few words in her ear, making her smile. "You're so annoying. Even so, we have to wait until we're married."
"Let Gavin take you home. You should rest early," Frederick said gently, looking at her with eyes full of affection and tolerance.
"I won't stay," Charlotte said coldly.
'Is the Percy Family out of servants? And he even needs me to take care of him?
Frederick looked at her, his gaze lingering on her face. His voice was cold and ruthless. "If you don't stay, I will withdraw all the help I gave your company."
Although Frederick had lost part of his memory, he saw in the secretary's organized schedule that he had personally gone to EX Company to help Charlotte which puzzled Frederick.
'What was I thinking at the time to push off such an important meeting for Charlotte? I had to find out the reason.'
"Fine, I'll stay," Charlotte said, clenching and unclenching her fists, finally compromising for the sake of her and Taylor's company. Taking care of his daily needs was something she had done before.
What pained her wás that Frederick would use the company's matters to threaten her. Charlotte's eyes reddened, but she stubbornly refused to let the tears fall. Gavin looked at Charlotte's state and worried for Frederick. Frederick, you were supposed to mend the relationship and clear up misunderstandings, not make things worse! But at least Charlotte agreed to stay, and Serena was willing to leave. Gavin dared not linger any longer and dragged Serena out.
"Wait, I still want to talk to Frederick for a bit," Serena hesitated to leave so soon.
Gavin tightened his grip on her arm and pulled her out. "The doctor said Frederick needs to rest early. If you keep talking, when will he get to rest?Let's go! You can talk to me instead!"
With that, Gavin finally managed to drag Serena out, not forgetting to close the door behind him. Once they left, the room fell silent again.
Charlotte picked up the water basin, intending to fetch water for Frederick to wash up so he could rest early and avoid talking to her. But Frederick stopped her action.
He looked at her, his gaze calm but puzzled. "Sit down first."
Charlotte hesitated but eventually sat down on the chair, remaining silent and just looking at him. She thought Frederick would say something important, but he asked a question that left her speechless.
Frederick said, "From the time of my accident to when I woke up,so much time passed, and you never came to the hospital to see me. Do you not care about my life or death?" Charlotte looked at him in disbelief. After his accident, she rushed over immediately, wiped his body when he came out of the operating room, and worried he would be hungry when he woke up, so she hurried home to make porridge! Yet all her efforts were mnet with Frederick's cold words. "Yes, I'm heartless. I don't care about you at all," Charlotte said, her voice as cold as ice."Are you sure you want to talk to me with that attitude?" Frederick's brows furrowed, his eyes sharp. "You didn't come to see me, and when you do, you speak to me like this. Gavin said we should have a good talk, but I don't think there's anything to explain."
"Explain? What is there to explain?" Charlotte turned her head away.
"Indeed, there's nothing to say. Your concern for me is not even as much as Serena's. She stayed by my side while you1 didn't."
"I went back to make porridge for you. How can you be so unreasonable?"Charlotte was furious.
Her earlier sadness was now overshadowed by anger as she looked at Frederick, feeling something inexplicably strange about him. Frederick's gaze was cold, and his words were odd.
"How long does it take to make porridge? Charlotte, if you're going to make excuses, at least make up a good one," Frederick said in a deep voice.expressing his dissatisfaction. Thinking back to Serena wiping his body,he still felt uncomfortable. If Charlotte had stayed by his side from the beginning, Serena would never have had the chance.
"This porridge takes four hours to cook each time, and this time I was in a hurry, so I only used half the time! Frederick, you've never acknowledged my efforts over the years. I'm fed up!" Charlotte said, her emotions getting out of control. Her eyes reddened again, and her suppressed emotions burst out, tears falling uncontrollably. Seeing her cry, Frederick suddenly felt a pang in his heart. "Don't cry," Frederick said, feeling confused by this unfamiliar emotion but
still hoping Charlotte would stop crying.
"I don't want to cry, but you! You keep playing with me. giving me hope only to push me into a darker abyss. Frederick. I'm really tired. I don't want to play this game anymore," Charlotte said, feeling that something was off with Frederick but not wanting to delve into it. She just wanted to leave quickly and escape this suffocating environment.
