Chapter 23

After hanging up the phone, Charlotte still couldn't believe it.

She thought for a moment and immediately connected the dots to Frederick.

"Could it be that Frederick stepped in for her?"

But it didn't make sense.

She hadn't even mentioned this to him before she left.

But if it wasn't him, she'couldn't think of anyone else who could scare Lucas like that.

'What does Frederick want? Humiliate her and then give her some benefits?

While Charlotte was lost in thought,Taylor called.

Her tone was unmistakably excited.

"Oh my God, what did you do? EX Company reached out to me to make peace, and their attitude was practically groveling. The person in charge treated me like a princess."

"It feels so good, really good."

Hearing Taylor so excited, Charlotte couldn't bear to tell her that it was probably Frederick who helped.

After all, because of her emotional entanglement with Frederick, Taylor had quite an opinion of him. "As long as the matter is resolved."

In contrast, Charlotte seemed much calmer.

After Taylor calmed down a boit, she directly asked, "You went to Frederick,

right? Besides him, no one else has that kind of power. Charlotte, he didn't take advantage of you, did he?"

Hearing her question, Charlotte just gave a wry smile.

"What could Frederick take advantage of? He's busy with his fiancée right now."

Charlotte said this to remind herself.

Even if it was Frederick who helped, it might be because of their past relationship. She shouldn't get any ideas.

But Taylor snorted at this.

"Fiancée? She's just a mistress."

Although Taylor was very angry at Frederick for abandoning Charlotte.

She had to admit, Frederick did help them a lot this time.

She excitedly talked to Charlotte for a while, then couldn't wait to go to the company and calculate the financial losses during this period, and then discuss with the lawyer about compensation. After hanging up the phone, Charlotte felt a weight lifted off her shoulders. Although she didn't want to have any more entanglements with Frederick,he had helped her a lot this time. If she pretended nothing happened, it would seem too deliberate. Thinking of this, Charlotte pulled up her chat with Frederick.

The chat history was still from before they talked about divorce.

She edited and deleted many words, but in the end, she deleted them all.

She only sent: [Thank you].

Frederick instantly called her when he received the message.

Charlotte thought for a moment and answered,"Hello?"

"Come downstairs."

Hearing his words. Charlotte went to the window and opened the curtains.

Then she directly met Frederick's eyes downstairs.

He was leaning against the car, his expression unclear in the light, but she could see the cigarette in his hand glowing.

This scene left Charlotte unable to refuse.

She put on a coat and went downstairs. Seeing Frederick, she didn't know what to say.

Frederick stepped forward and tightened the tie on her coat.

He said, "If you run into stuff likethis again, just come to me. Even if you can't find me, hit up my secretary. I've told you before, even if we're divorced, it doesn't mean we're strangers." Frederick's deep voice sounded so sexy in the quiet night. Charlotte felt her heart racing for him. Even though she had already guessed it was Frederick who helped.hearing him admit it made her heart flutter.

Charlotte was torn inside.

On one hand, she wished Frederick wouldn't be so good to her.

If he wasn't so good to her, she could make up her mind to leave him.

But on the other hand, she wished Serena didn't exist,so she could stay with Frederick forever.

"Thanks for today."

"You don't need to thank me."

Frederick's gentle reassurance made Charlotte even more uneasy.

The more he sent mixed signals, the more her heart ached.

Frederick gently pulled Charlotte into his arms.

"I shouldn't have doubted you today. I trust you, but I wasn't lying about Serena.I never invited her into our bedroom, nor let her wear your clothes.

As for the wedding,I had no idea."

Charlotte didn't struggle in his arms.

Even though their divorce was final, she was happy Frederick explained.

It turned out Frederick hadn't lied to her; he was still the same. Knowing this made Charlotte feel at ease. No matter what their future held, at least it proved she hadn't loved the wrong person. After all, she had truly loved him for so many years. Charlotte didn't want her love to be misplaced.

Charlotte didn't hug Frederick back but let herself be held tightly.

She felt a bit emotional; she realized howmuch she missed Frederick's embrace.

At this moment, it seemed like they were the only two people in the quiet night.

The night wind was cool, but Charlotte's heart felt warm again.

"Why are you explaining to me now?" Charlotte's voice was muffled.

Frederick gently stroked her smooth hair.

"I don't know, but I know if I don't explain, I'll regret it."

Frederick's words came from the heart.

He always acted decisively, never dragging things out.

Many of his actions upset people and made them question him, but Frederick never cared to explain.

But after helping Charlotte with EX Company, he couldn't calm down at home.

He thought he had to explain to Charlotte, or he would regret it. "Thank you."

"I said, don't thank me." "But I still want to thank you."

"Let's put this behind us. Don't thank me, and don't say things you don't mean."

Hearing Frederick say this, Charlotte fell silent again.

Frederick sighed, pulled her out of his arms, looked at her seriously, and said, "Things with Serena are complicated. I know you suffered a lot. I don't want to make any excuses. I just hope we don't hurt each other with words."

Frederick really cared about how Charlotte treated him.

Every time Charlotte said those cold words, his heart hurt.

Charlotte looked into his eyes.

After a long timne, she finally nodded. "Okay, I promise."
