Chapter 22
Just then, the secretary knocked on the door.
After a brief pause, he stuck his head in and said, "MrPercy,Ms. Brown is still waiting for you upstairs. She's sent someone to remind you three times already."
Hearing Serena's name,Frederick felt a sudden reluctance to face her.
He waved dismissively. "Tell her I've got something urgent to handle and she should head back on her own."
Frederick made up an excuse on the spot.
After what Charlotte had just told him, he really didn't want to see Serena right now.
The secretary nodded and was about to close the door when Frederick called him back.
"Go look into Charlotte's situation. See if she's been dealing with any problems lately and report back to me."
"Got it."
The secretary left to carry out the order.
Frederick watched helplessly as that solitary tear quietly evaporated. In the end, he couldn't just ignore it.Charlotte had come to him several times. If it wasn't about feelings, then it must be something else she needed his help with. 'Damn it!'
Charlotte was so stubborn that he should have been ruthless and ignored her.
Then, when she had nowhere else to turn, she would come to him for help.
But seeing that tear, Frederick ultimately couldn't be heartless.
Ten minutes later, the secretary returned with the information.
He said, "The report shows that Mrs.Percy's perfume company has been attacked by the top industry brand, EX Company, and is caught in a plagiarism scandal. They might even face a lawsuit."
Frederick flipped through a few pages of the report and then irritably tossed it aside.
"Continue."
The secretary relayed all the information he had found.
Frederick immediately discerned that Charlotte had been framed.
"How low."
He despised people who played dirty tricks behind others' backs.
"Reschedule my appointments. I need to go to EX Company personally."
The secretary's eyes lit up upon hearing that Frederick was going to support Charlotte in person.
"Okay, I'll take care of it right away."
Frederick sighed deeply. He might really be going crazy.
He never thought that one day he would delay his work because of Charlotte.
But the thought of her being bullied made him unable to ease his anger.
In the middle of the night. Charlotte woke up from a dream.
Feeling extremely thirsty, she turned on the bedside lamp and went to the kitchen to get a glass of water.
After returning from the Percy Group, she had cried a lot, curled up on her bed like a wounded animal, not knowing when she had fallen asleep.
Holding the glass of water, Charlotte turned on her phone and found numerous missed calls.
She called back, and the other side quickly answered.
"Ms. Russell, you finally answered my call."
Charlotte immediately recognized the voice as Lucas.
She becamne alert and said coldly, "I don't think we have anything to talk about. Why are you calling me?"
Lucas was clearly taken aback.
Then he said, "Ms. Russell, I'm really sorry to hear that. If you have some time, I'd like to invite you to dinner so we can clear up any misunderstandings." Charlotte glanced at the clock; it was 3 a.m. Her tone grew colder, "I don't dolate-night snacks. Just say what you need to say now." Charlotte found it somewhat amusing.
How could there be just a misunderstanding between them?
But Lucas's humble and somewhat ingratiating tone left Charlotte puzzled.
She really didn't know what this shrewd Lucas was up to.
"Alright, I wanted to formally apologize to you. Since it's inconvenient for you. I'll apologize here and now to you and your company."
Lucas's tone was very sincere, "We did use improper means before, causing significant losses to you and your company. We will make amends.withdraw all the negative articles, and issue an apology on our company's official platform. Additionally, we will..."
Before Lucas could finish. Charlotte interrupted him.
"What do you mean by this? Are you mocking me?"
Previously, Lucas had wanted to acquire her company. Charlotte couldn't believe he would change his attitude so quickly.
Lucas staying up late just to wait for her call and apologize?
"How could I mock you? I am sincerely apologizing."
If it weren't for the fact that it was a phone call, Lucas would have knelt before Charlotte to show his sincerity. "We were heartless before, but we hope you can forgive us. We genuinely believe that the perfume you developed is unique and has the potential to be promoted worldwide. We just used the wrong methods, and we deeply apologize forthat. We will bear all the losses caused to you and your company. Regarding compensation, I hope we can discuss it in detail." Hearing Lucas say so much, Charlotte believed he was genuinely apologizing.
Although she found the situation surreal, Lucas's willingness to make concessions was a good thing.
Imitating Lucas's tone from earlier in the day, she said haughtily,"Regarding compensation, you can discuss it with my lawyer. I'm going to sleep now. Don't disturb me again."
"Ms. Russell..."
Lucas had wanted to ask Charlotte to put in a good word for him with Frederick, but she mercilessly hung up the phone.
The moment the call ended, Lucas's expression turned vicious.
'Damn woman! She even had the backing of the Percy Group! With such a powerful backer, she had still acted so weak before.'
Before acquiring a company, Lucas always conducted an investigation.
The investigation showed that JXL Company had no background whatsoever and had broken into the market purely based on its products.
With this, Lucas had chosen to use such despicable means to suppress and take over their company.
If he had known that the Percy Group was connected to JXL Company,he wouldn't have dared to act. What frightened Lucas the most was that Frederick had personally intervened to support JXL Company. Lucas didn't dare to imagine; if he didn't give Frederick a satisfactory solution, what would his fate be?
