Chapter 456

Evelyn was determined to settle things with that infuriating Nathaniel later!

With Christopher finally driving away, Evelyn let out a long exhale, her shoulders relaxing slightly.

Strolling toward the nearby café, she couldn’t shake off Nathaniel’s odd behavior from earlier.

What had he been trying to say?

Her mind buzzed with questions, but she refused to let his cryptic words unsettle her.

By the time she got home, exhaustion weighed heavily on her.

Lately, the fatigue had become unbearable, especially as her baby bump grew more noticeable each day.

Simple tasks like bending or squatting were becoming increasingly uncomfortable.

Her fingers brushed lightly over her abdomen, a silent promise forming in her mind—she needed to leave soon.

The next morning, Evelyn headed to campus for her scheduled lectures.

As she packed up her notes, Elizabeth approached her. "Evelyn, Mr. Winslow wants to see you in his office. He said it’s important."

Heat crept up Evelyn’s neck at the memory of last night’s awkward, unfinished dinner.

Why did Theodore want to talk to her now?

Was it about keeping her divorce quiet?

It struck her then—maybe his kindness stemmed from knowing about her past with Nathaniel.

Steeling herself, she knocked on his office door.

Theodore’s cheerful voice greeted her. "Evelyn! Come in, have a seat."

He leaned forward, excitement gleaming in his eyes. "I called you here because of your outstanding performance yesterday. The Music School faculty was blown away."

"They’re suggesting you consider adding piano as a second major. What do you think?"

Evelyn blinked. "You want me to major in music?"

"Exactly. Don’t worry about the paperwork—the professors will handle everything. The university loves nurturing talent like yours."

Her stomach twisted.

She loved music, but was she really that good?

Something felt off.

Nathaniel’s face flashed in her mind.

After a pause, she shook her head. "I appreciate the offer, Mr. Winslow, but I’m close to finishing my current degree. I’m not looking to add another major right now."

His smile faltered. "Are you sure? This is a rare opportunity."

"My mind’s made up."

Theodore didn’t push further.

The moment Evelyn left, he grabbed his phone and dialed Robert.

"Hey, I pitched the music major to Evelyn, but she turned it down. Said she wasn’t interested. Could you pass that along to Mr. Whitmore?"

Robert’s face darkened.

Nathaniel had stormed into the office early, his foul mood making the entire executive team walk on eggshells.

This news would only fuel his temper.

Taking a deep breath, Robert knocked on Nathaniel’s door. "Sir, do you have a minute? There’s something you should know."

Nathaniel didn’t look up. "Make it quick."

"It’s about Mr. Winslow’s call. Maybe I should—"

"Wait." Nathaniel’s head snapped up, his gaze sharp. "What did he say?"

Robert hesitated. "He said Ms. Carter declined the music major. She just… wasn’t interested."

Nathaniel’s pen stilled.

His jaw tightened, irritation flickering across his face. He hadn’t expected this.

She’d seemed so alive on that stage yesterday.

"Why would she refuse?" he muttered, more to himself.

Just then, the office door burst open as a woman strode in.
