Chapter 407
Julian Montgomery frowned at Andrew's words. "You should discuss this with Evelyn first before making any decisions. What if she doesn't agree with your plan?"
"I can handle this on my own. Evelyn doesn’t need to be involved."
Andrew’s voice was firm. "After everything she’s endured—being mistreated and abandoned by the Whitmore family—I won’t stand by and do nothing. I refuse to let her walk away with nothing."
If Evelyn left the marriage empty-handed, then what was the point of Andrew being here?
"What I mean is, our family is more than capable of supporting her financially. She’ll be returning to Nord City soon. There’s no need to complicate things."
Julian sighed. "Besides, Evelyn has made it clear she wants nothing more to do with the Whitmores."
"This isn’t about complicating things. It’s about ensuring she gets what she deserves."
Andrew’s tone sharpened. "Otherwise, Nathaniel will think he can treat her however he pleases. Let me handle this. I’ll talk to Evelyn myself."
As one of Nord City’s top lawyers, Andrew believed that if Evelyn divorced without securing what was rightfully hers, then his reputation meant nothing.
Before, she had no one to rely on. Now, she had family.
Why should she suffer in silence?
Meanwhile, Evelyn sat through her afternoon lectures, an uneasy feeling settling in her chest. She couldn’t pinpoint why.
Later, she emailed the finalized design drafts to the university officials.
Given Anthony Kensington’s perfectionist standards and Victoria Sinclair’s interference, the task had been far from simple.
Evelyn wasn’t confident her designs would be approved. She had a sinking feeling they’d be sent back for revisions.
When Anthony received the drafts, he immediately forwarded them to Christopher Montgomery with a message:
"Mr. Montgomery, what do you think of these designs?"
Christopher barely glanced at them before replying sharply, "Why are you showing me this? Are you out of your mind? Who designed these?"
Anthony hesitated. "Mr. Montgomery, didn’t you specifically request to review the university’s submissions?"
He added, "I agree with your initial reaction. The designs seem amateurish. They’ll only slow us down. That’s why I suggested replacing Evelyn in the first place."
Wait—
Christopher suddenly straightened, his fingers flying over his phone as he called Anthony. "Hold on. Are you saying these are from the university?"
"Yes, they’re from Evelyn Carter," Anthony confirmed.
Christopher’s breath hitched.
Evelyn had designed these?
He cleared his throat, backtracking instantly. "Actually, on second thought, I might have been too hasty. These designs are impressive—full of energy and raw talent!"
Anthony blinked, baffled by the sudden shift. "I… I thought they were underdeveloped?"
Hadn’t Christopher just criticized them? Why the change of heart?
"Underdeveloped? Hardly." Christopher scoffed. "If you can’t appreciate originality, maybe you should keep quiet. This has character!"
He continued, "Evelyn’s a student. Her style might be unconventional, but that doesn’t make it tasteless. It fits the university’s vibe perfectly. I say we proceed as-is."
Anthony hesitated. "So… no revisions?"
"None. It’s perfect."
Christopher wouldn’t risk exhausting Evelyn with endless edits.
She had already spent countless hours practicing piano and refining these drafts.
Besides, this music showcase was for her. Even if she’d scribbled the designs on a napkin, he’d have approved them.
Anthony had no choice but to comply, though suspicion gnawed at him.
Was Christopher… interested in Evelyn?
It was the only explanation.
