Chapter 351
The day Evelyn was supposed to appear in court clashed with her piano shopping plans with Christopher.
She was trapped in an impossible situation. What could she possibly do?
"Maybe we could reschedule for tomorrow?" she suggested hesitantly.
Christopher chuckled. "Oh, silly me. You have classes tomorrow, don’t you? No worries—I’ll drive you to campus myself."
He had been waiting for an opportunity like this.
Playing the role of the perfect older cousin had always been his dream.
Evelyn stiffened. "That’s really not necessary, Christopher."
"Nonsense! It’s my day off. What’s the harm in dropping you off?" He grinned. "Get some rest, Evelyn. I’ll be here bright and early."
"Christopher—"
But he was already gone before she could protest further.
This was spiraling out of control.
She had an appointment with Nathaniel tomorrow morning—the day their divorce would be finalized—and afternoon lectures she couldn’t miss.
Given Christopher’s stubbornness, refusing him wasn’t an option.
How could she fix this?
Today was supposed to mark the end of her marriage to Nathaniel. The last thing she needed was Christopher discovering their past.
If he found out, he’d never let it go.
And if he angered Nathaniel? Christopher’s music academy in Bern City would be ruined.
She couldn’t let that happen.
Back in her room, she paced, searching for a solution.
What excuse could she possibly give to avoid Christopher driving her to campus?
Rejecting him outright would hurt him—he’d been so eager just moments ago.
But she couldn’t risk him learning the truth.
Her phone buzzed.
Jonathan’s name flashed on the screen.
Evelyn ignored it. She already knew what he wanted.
There was nothing left to say.
Her instincts told her his feelings weren’t genuine. A woman’s intuition was rarely wrong.
But the calls didn’t stop.
When the ringing finally ceased, a text appeared:
Evelyn, I’m outside your building. If you don’t answer, I’ll knock on every door until you do.
Her patience snapped.
She called back. "Jonathan, I’ve made myself clear. We’re not compatible."
"Evelyn! Finally." His voice was warm. "Don’t worry about what happened on campus. I’ll make it up to you—a proper confession this time."
"I don’t want one," she said flatly.
"Why not? If you’re worried about being divorced, don’t be. It doesn’t matter to me. I like you."
She pinched the bridge of her nose. This conversation was going in circles.
"But I don’t like you."
"Evelyn, I know you’re overwhelmed right now. You don’t have to decide tonight. Take your time. Sweet dreams."
The call ended before she could respond.
She stared at her phone, disgusted.
Since when had Jonathan become so insufferable?
Maybe she’d never noticed because she’d never been interested.
Besides, she was pregnant—carrying Nathaniel’s child—and about to finalize their divorce.
The last thing she wanted was another relationship.
Had she somehow given Jonathan the wrong idea?
After that exhausting call, she texted Sophia, venting about the situation.
She even mentioned the time she’d accidentally run into Jonathan during his blind date at that restaurant.
