Chapter 295
Victoria's face paled when she realized things weren't going her way. "Alexander, this has nothing to do with the demolition project. I'm certain of it."
Alexander's eyes narrowed slightly. "How would you know?"
Her expression stiffened. "Because those residents are from the lower class. How could they possibly orchestrate something like this? You're overcomplicating it."
The mention of social class darkened his tone. "The lower class? Have you forgotten where you came from?"
Her expression shifted dramatically. She quickly backtracked, "This is different. Let me handle it. I won’t disappoint you."
Alexander wasn’t fooled. If Evelyn had hacked into the company’s system, she must have had a compelling reason. He knew her character well enough to trust that.
Just then, a technician gasped. "Mr. Montgomery, the hacker breached our system again. This time, they sent a voice recording."
Alexander’s brows lifted. "Play it."
Meanwhile, Victoria’s stomach twisted with dread.
Was it the conversation she’d had with Evelyn in the waiting area?
Had Evelyn hired someone to do this?
She had underestimated her—Evelyn might not be a hacker, but she could certainly find one.
The recording crackled to life, revealing Victoria’s condescending remarks toward Evelyn.
Victoria’s face drained of color. "Alexander, that’s not me! It’s fabricated!"
Alexander frowned, disgusted by her arrogance.
He stared her down. "Do you think I’m an idiot? I know when you’re lying. What were you thinking, withholding compensation? How dare you, Victoria Sinclair!"
Now, the full picture was clear.
He turned to Maxwell, his voice icy. "Explain yourself. If I don’t get answers, every one of you is fired."
Alexander’s assistant ushered the others out, leaving only Victoria and Maxwell.
Maxwell swallowed hard. "Mr. Montgomery, we were just following protocol. The family’s documents weren’t complete—"
Alexander snatched the file and flung it at him. "What was missing? Tell me exactly what was missing!"
He had personally ensured Evelyn’s paperwork was flawless.
Victoria finally snapped. "Fine! I have a grudge against her, Alexander. That’s why I targeted her. Stay out of it—I’ll resolve this."
"A grudge?" He let out a cold laugh before addressing Maxwell. "Submit your resignation to HR. If you want to avoid legal consequences, apologize to that family immediately. Otherwise, expect a lawsuit."
Maxwell panicked, turning to Victoria. "Ms. Sinclair, I was only following your orders! You have to explain this to him—I had no part in it!"
At this point, his only lifeline was Victoria.
