Chapter 271

The tense expressions on Alexander and Olivia's faces made Evelyn wonder if they were about to bring up the recent kidnapping attempt orchestrated by Walter and Beverly.

A flicker of unease passed through her. Setting down her teacup, Evelyn asked, "What did you want to talk about?"

Alexander cleared his throat. "Olivia and I have been discussing this for some time. Would you consider returning to Nord City and living with us?"

Olivia, seated beside Evelyn, gave her and Margaret a reassuring smile. "Don’t worry. If you decide to come back with us, the entire family will relocate together."

"We’ll arrange for Benjamin to be transferred to a hospital there. In Nord City, you’ll all be well taken care of."

Evelyn instinctively glanced at Margaret, whose expression remained unreadable.

Given that Evelyn was carrying Nathaniel’s child, returning to Nord City for safety reasons had crossed her mind.

But Margaret had spent her entire life in Bern City. Uprooting her completely wouldn’t be an easy decision.

Margaret hesitated before speaking. "I need some time to think about this."

Evelyn gently squeezed her hand. "Don’t let me influence your choice. I’ll stay by your side no matter where you decide to go."

"Just like we promised before—I’ll take care of you and Uncle Benjamin in your old age. That hasn’t changed."

After the tragedy that took Margaret and Benjamin’s only child, Evelyn had become the last remaining family they had left.

She knew Margaret wouldn’t stand in her way if she chose to return to Nord City. But Evelyn had no intention of leaving her behind.

Alexander interjected, "There’s no need to rush. We have time to figure this out."

"Evelyn, after what happened with your adoptive parents, Olivia and I feel responsible for not protecting you better."

Evelyn shook her head firmly. "This wasn’t your fault. I’m sure Walter and Beverly won’t dare cause trouble again after this."

Alexander’s gaze hardened. "You’re right. They won’t be a problem anymore."

This time, Evelyn’s adoptive family would face severe consequences. They’d likely spend the rest of their lives behind bars.

Soon after, Evelyn’s brothers arrived at the house. Seeing her safe, they finally relaxed.

As Evelyn yawned, everyone began to disperse.

Alexander led his brothers outside, his expression stern as he turned to Andrew. "We need to handle Evelyn’s legal separation from her adoptive parents properly this time."

"Don’t worry, Alexander. I’ve already sent someone to negotiate with them. If they want to protect their son, Edward, they’ll have to agree to the termination terms."

At first, the Montgomery brothers hadn’t paid much attention to Walter and Beverly, focusing only on rebuilding their relationship with Evelyn.

But their audacity had shocked them. This time, they were determined to end the problem for good.

Retreating to her room, Evelyn lay down, replaying the terrifying experience of her kidnapping in her mind.

It all felt like a nightmare.

Closing her eyes, she drifted into another dream—Nathaniel descending gracefully from a helicopter, dressed in tactical gear.

He stood beside a van, silently extending his hand toward her.

Her heart raced at the sight of his outstretched palm.

The next morning, Evelyn woke with the dream still fresh in her mind. She splashed cold water on her face, determined not to let Nathaniel’s kindness sway her.

After all, Evelyn and Nathaniel came from entirely different worlds.
