Chapter 35

When Veda got swapped back with Emily, Isolde picked her up to take her home, which was basically a dump.

The house was empty, and her dad was a gambling addict who kept asking her for money to pay off his debts. When she told him she didn't have any,he beat her.

After a week of this, Veda had enough. She secretly bought a ticket back to the Johnson Mansion.

Seeing Veda in such a sorry state, Mia's heart broke, and she insisted on keeping her. After all, she had raised her for twelve years. After that, Veda barely saw Isolde and her husband again.

Veda didn't say anything back, but her eyes were full of hatred.

Everyone was watching, and the disdain and displeasure in their eyes cut Veda deeply.

Her heart ached, and she couldn't help but shout angrily, "I don't know her! She's not my mom! Make her leave!"

Emily sat in the car, watching Veda lose it. She smirked, drove into the underground parking lot, and then headed into the office.

A colleague saw Emily and couldn't help but ask, "Ms. Johnson, aren't you and Veda sisters? Isn't that woman downstairs your mother?"

"That's her mother,not mine."

The colleagūe was shocked. "You're not from the same mother?"

Emily shook her head and went into the office to start working on her designs.

Over an hour later, Emily got a call from John. His voice was harsh. "Emily,get to the hospital right now!"

Emily replied calmly, "Am I going to the hospital to collect Veda's body?"

John's breathing got heavier with anger. "Veda is being treated at the hospital. If anything happens to her, I won't let you off the hook!"

After hanging up, Emily sneered, calmly finished her work, held a meeting,and didn't go to the hospital until the end of the workday.

Veda was in a deluxe ward, with only John by her side. The door was slightly ajar, and Emily could see everything inside clearly.

Veda was cowering in John's arms, her eyes swollen from crying,the slap marks on her face still visible.

She sobbed, "John, no one knows about Isolde except Emily. She knew Isolde hated me, yet she still let her come find me! The whole Isolde family is like demons, and they just want money from me. Now Isolde has come to the company causing a scene. What am I going to do in the future? How can I face my coleagues?"

Veda cried bitterly.

John held her tightly, comforting her gently, "It's okay. Worst case, you find a new job. Plus, you still have me. I can take care of you forever,and you don't have to worry about anything."

Emily knocked on the door, and both of them looked towards it. When they saw Emily, their anger flared up simultaneously.

John shouted,"Emily,how dare you come here!"

Emily rolled her eyes, closed the door again, and said coldly,"You called me to come. Are you crazy?"

Emily glanced at Veda. "Call me again when you're dead next time."

Veda's pupils trembled, and she immediately buried her face in John's arms,crying again.

Emily, feeling annoyed, scratched her ear and said discontentedly, "What's there to cry about? Just a few slaps. Wasn't I the one taking those slaps for you all these years? Now you know how painful it is."

John's voice was full of anger. "Emily! You're simply unreasonable."

Emily didn't deny it. "Yeah, I am unreasonable. Being too gentle just makes it easy for people to walk all over me."

John took a deep breath and said coldly, "You caused the death of our child before, and now you've hurt Veda again. You are truly heartless!"

Emily narrowed her eyes and asked Veda, "Did I really cause the death of your child?"

Veda affirmed firmly."Yes!"

Emily took out her phone and calmly said, "Well, I happen to have a live video here.Maybe you'd like to take a look."

Veda's expression instantly changed.

She asked, "How do you have the video?"

Emily sighed. "Back then, John didn't attend the wedding. To remember it,

I had surveillance cameras installed at the wedding venue."

This reason was pretty far-fetched, especially since it was only after Veda invited her over that she hadI someone quickly install them. But it turned out to be useful.

Emily handed the video to John.

In the video, Veda's words were clearly heard. And then, after Emily let go of her hand, Veda jumped from upstairs onher own.

Emily raised an eyebrow at John. "Video doesn't lie. I'll send it to you,and you can have it properly authenticated later."

Veda's face turned pale. After John watched the video, he slapped Veda and said angrily, "Veda! You know this is our child and your own physical condition! We might not have children again. How dare you!"

John took a deep breath. In that moment after watching the video, he felt like a joke.

His body kept trembling, but looking at Veda's tearful eyes and the red marks on her face, his heart softened a little. But this anger in his heart couldn't be resolved.

Veda nervously held John's hand, crying and explaining, "No, John, it's definitely not true."

John gave her a slap, indicating that he believed it.

Veda was gasping for breath as she cried. She even gave Emily a fierce glare.

Emily added certainly, "There's one more thing. Veda,you leaked the

online rumors about me not supporting Isolde."

Veda cried. "Why would I bring trouble upon myself? I didn't do what you're accusing me of."

Emily smiled, her eyes full of charm, and said, "How can you be so sure I don't have evidence?"

"Emily, stop it!" John looked at Emily, his voice filled with anger. It was unclear whether he was defending Veda or saving face for himself. Or maybe he felt uncomfortable deceived by Veda, wanting to vent on someone.

Emily asked abruptly, "John, did you ever love me?"

She looked at John and smiled. "If you ever loved me, you wouldn't have left me because of Veda's seduction."
