Chapter 23

As soon as James finished talking, everyone's faces went pale.

The assistant pulled Veda aside and whispered. "Ms. Johnson, this deal is super important for the Williams Group. Should we call your sister?"

James didn't give them a chance to negotiate;he just turned around and left.

Veda felt her hands and feet go cold. Every word James said was like a slap in the face.

The two assistants watched her make a call and whispered, "So it was Emily who impressed Mr. Smith. Veda seemed so eager, I thought it was her."

"Veda wasn't sure herself before."

"Getting called out by Mr. Smith like that, I wonder if he'll cause trouble for our company later."

As Veda called John, she overheard their chatter and felt super embarrassed.

After getting Veda's distressed call, John stormed towards the design department and barged into Emily's office.

On his way, he weighed the pros and cons and realized only Emily could handle this. By the time he reached her office,he had calmed down.

He took a deep breath and ordered, "You need to handle the cooperation."

"Why?" Emily, who was sketching, didn't even look up as she lazily asked.

John's eyes turned cold. "Emily, now's not the time for your tantrums.Go quickly."

Emily nonchalantly raised her head. "This is such a big deal Ms. Veda Johnson volunteered for. If she can secure it, it'll help her esablish herself in the company. John, isn't this what you wanted?"

John was left speechless. His eyes flashed with anger. "Are you trying to embarrass Veda like this? Emily, you really are a piece of work."

Emily's eyes turned cold, her lips tight. and she said with a smile, "Isn't it because she's vain and trying to take credit? Now you're blaming me instead? John, you two really are the perfect couple."

The sarcasm was so sharp it made John's face stiffen.

Emily slowly raised her eyelids, looked at John's frustrated expression, and said with a smile, "You can keep accusing me, but you should also think about how Mr. Smith will react."

Forcing himself to calm down, John gritted his teeth and asked. "What do you want to do?"

"I believe Veda will handle it well, and you don't need to worry."

John's eyes turned cold. James had already made it clear that Emily was indispensable, and she was still unruffled. It was obvious she was out for revenge.

A flash of anger crossed John's eyes as he said coldly, "She will never apologize to you."

Emily lowered her head and continued to draw, her voice calm. "Then it doesn't matter. After all, the Williams Group losing out in the shopping

festival doesn't affect me."

John said fiercely, "Just you wait."

John went outside to call Veda and advised her kindly, "You need to come back and apologize to her first. I know it's tough, but just bear with it this time."

Veda was almost in tears on the other end, but she knew that between the company's interests and herself, John always prioritized the company.

Collaborating with the Golden Birch Group had immense benefits.

Half an hour later, Veda rushedI back. She walked straight into Emily's office, looking red-faced and apologetic, and said with her head down, "Emily, I was wrong. You should prioritize the bigger picture and go to the Golden Birch Group."

Emily looked up, a sardonic smile on her face. "Shouldn't the one prioritizing the bigger picture be you? If you don't have the skills, don't steal credit. Now that you've been rejected, you come to give me a lecture.Veda,do you have no shame?"

Veda had never been scolded to her face. Even if she had taken John away.Emily had never resorted to cursing her out.

The current Emily made her inexplicably flustered. It seemed like Emnily was targeting her. Emily appeared calm, but Veda could sense some hostility in her eyes.

Gritting her teeth, Veda suddenly knelt in front of Emily. "Emily, I was wrong. Please, for the sake of the company, don't take it personally."

As Veda spoke, she was about to bow her head.

Seeing Veda kneel. John was stunned and quickly tried to pull her up."Veda, why are you kneeling to her? She doesn't deserve you kneeling down!"

Emily sat in her chair, legs crossed, her gaze coldly fixed on Veda.

John stood by, reproaching Emily. "Emily, don't go too far. She's your sister! Why are you still asmalicious as before? After so many years in the Williams family, you still haven't learned any decency!"

The commotion in the office was too loud, and with the door open, many people were watching from outside, pointing and whispering about Emily.

Emily looked up, smiled at John, and calmly retorted, "Hayden and Wilder are such principled individuals, yet you still haven't learned any integrity and propriety from them. What right do you haveto accuse me? At least I dare to take responsibility more than you."

John's face was extremely ugly, and he rushed forward to slap Emily. Before his raised hand could come down, Emily caught it.

Standing up, Emily tightened her grip on his wrist, causing John's face to turn pale as he felt his entire arm going numb. He winced in pain.

Emily yanked her hand free from his grip so forcefully that there was a crack, and his hand popped out of joint.

Emily said, "Since you came here to ask me for a favor, I hope both of you can have a better attitude. I don't owe you anything."

The last few words made both of them shudder. What did she mean by not owing?

Emily's tone was firm. "Either apologize sincerely to me, or get out.

Handle the collaboration with the Golden Birch Group? You're on your own. Find someone else!"

No one dared to challenge Emily. Both of them had unpleasant expressions.

Veda was still kneeling on the ground, while Emily sat in her chair, legs crossed, looking down at Veda with a hint of superiority.

Veda knew this wouldn't end easily. She lowered her head, clenched her fists, and through gritted teeth, said, "Emily, aren't you afraid of Mom and Dad finding out?"

Emily laughed. "So what? I can call them right now and let them see what their so-called daughter is like."

The word "daughter" was emphasized by Emily!

Veda tightened her grip. After a moment, John said, "Veda, just apologize."

Although he didn't want Veda to be wronged, there was no other way.

Filled with anger, Veda raised her hand and gave herself a hard slap.
