Chapter 95
Liam's breath hitched as Evelyn began to undress before him.
His self-control shattered instantly at the sight.
The silk nightgown slid down Evelyn's shoulders, pooling at her narrow waist. Her thick chestnut hair tumbled over her bare skin like a waterfall, offering tantalizing glimpses of the smooth flesh beneath.
Just the sight of her bare back was enough to undo him completely.
This was exquisite torture - the kind Liam found himself craving despite the agony.
Evelyn tossed her hair over one shoulder with unconscious grace, baring more of that maddening skin. Liam's throat went dry, his pulse hammering against his ribs.
He must have been out of his mind to volunteer to check her wound.
With deliberate movements, Evelyn reached behind her back and unfastened her bra.
Heat flooded Liam's body like wildfire. His breathing turned ragged, his heart pounding so hard he feared it might burst from his chest.
Every subtle movement she made sent fresh waves of desire crashing through him.
Oblivious to Liam's torment, Evelyn remained focused on her original request. "Could you check the wound for me?" she murmured shyly.
The bra came loose, but Evelyn kept it pressed against her chest as she turned slightly toward him.
Liam swallowed hard, painfully aware of the growing tightness in his pants.
From this angle, he could see the swell of her breast peeking out from the pink lace edge of her bra.
The sight nearly undid him. His fingers trembled as he reached to adjust the bra strap, forcing himself to focus on the bandage covering her injury.
The wound had healed well, forming a neat scab near the curve of her breast. "It's scabbed over," Liam managed in a rough voice. "I'll get you some anti-itch cream."
He practically leapt from the bed.
The door slammed behind him as he fled like a man possessed, his rapid footsteps fading down the hallway.
Evelyn blinked in confusion before sighing and tending to her own bandage before dressing.
Ten minutes later, a knock interrupted her thoughts.
Adrian stood at the door holding a small tube. "Madam, General Blackwood asked me to deliver this cream for your healing wound."
Evelyn tilted her head. "Where is he?"
"General Blackwood went training with Ryan and the others," Adrian replied.
Evelyn glanced at the clock - barely past five, the sky still dark. Since when did Liam train at this hour?
"Thank you," she said politely, accepting the ointment.
The morning passed without any sign of Liam. When Adrian delivered lunch, Evelyn couldn't resist asking, "Liam left in his pajamas this morning. Hasn't he returned to change?"
Adrian cleared his throat. "After training, the General showered at the barracks and went straight to work in his uniform. He asked me to inform you he won't be joining you for meals today."
Evelyn studied the medicine tube with growing puzzlement.
Something was definitely off about Liam's behavior today.
