Chapter 90
Liam let out a thoughtful hum. "Bring a chair for Evelyn."
Adrian nodded immediately. "Right away, sir."
Victoria blinked rapidly, her mouth slightly agape.
Rosalind gasped as Adrian carried the chair toward Evelyn with surprising gentleness. He even adjusted it for her before she sat down. Evelyn herself seemed taken aback by the courtesy.
Victoria stomped her designer shoe in frustration. "Liam! I'm the injured party here! Have you no compassion?"
Liam didn't even glance her way.
Within minutes, a team of IT specialists arrived with their equipment. They efficiently set up their workstation and connected to the projection system, beginning the process of recovering the surveillance footage.
Ryan approached Rosalind with visible pride. "Our military base has the finest tech team in all of Aldenria. They can crack the most sophisticated encryption systems - retrieving some security footage is child's play to them."
Victoria's confidence began to waver. She pressed a hand to her forehead dramatically and leaned against a nearby soldier. "Liam darling, I feel faint. The pain is unbearable. Won't you please take me to the hospital?"
Liam remained as unmovable as a marble statue.
The lead technician soon announced, "General Blackwood, we've successfully recovered the footage. It's ready for viewing."
"Project it," Liam commanded.
The white lobby wall illuminated with the video playback. The timestamp showed the dimly lit corridor where Evelyn and Victoria had exited the elevator moments before the incident.
The footage clearly showed Victoria clinging to Evelyn's arm, whispering something in her ear. Evelyn suddenly turned and slapped Victoria across the face.
Victoria immediately burst into theatrical tears, pointing an accusing finger. "See how vicious she is? She attacked me without provocation!"
Gasps rippled through the gathered crowd.
Only Liam remained stone-faced, his gaze fixed on Evelyn's bandaged hand. A muscle twitched in his jaw.
That strike must have reopened her wound. Was she in pain?
The last time he'd seen her strike someone was when Dominic had betrayed her.
The video continued to the crucial moment at the stairwell. The crowd watched as Evelyn appeared to push Victoria down the short flight of stairs.
Victoria pointed triumphantly at the screen. "There! The evidence speaks for itself! She deliberately pushed me! Even if it was only six steps, that's clearly assault! She should face criminal charges!"
Damian cleared his throat smugly as he approached Liam. "Well, General? Care to comment?"
Liam had nothing to say to the officer.
Instead, he turned to the technicians. "Rewind and play it again in slow motion."
Victoria's face flushed with anger. "What are you trying to pull, Liam?"
Evelyn sat stiffly in her chair, unconsciously picking at her bandage as she watched the screen.
No one dared disobey Liam's command.
The footage replayed frame by frame.
Every subtle movement became painfully clear.
The crowd's murmurs grew louder with each passing second.
Damian's confident smirk faltered, replaced by visible discomfort.
The slowed footage revealed the truth: Victoria had grabbed Evelyn's wrist and used it to propel herself down the stairs. The manipulation was undeniable.
