Chapter 495

Though Evelyn was furious, she couldn't deny the fact that Liam had remarried Cassandra.

After locking herself in the bedroom, Cassandra grabbed her phone and dialed Rosalind. She had already informed her assistant about the marriage to Liam on their wedding day.

Rosalind had been thrilled and showered her with blessings, telling her to enjoy the honeymoon with Liam. But Cassandra's happiness was shattered when Victoria showed up uninvited less than a week later.

When Rosalind answered, Cassandra's voice trembled. "Rosalind, could you book me a flight? I need to return to the lab immediately."

"What happened? Did General Blackwood do something?" Rosalind sounded alarmed.

"Not just him. Victoria came too. They're both making my life miserable."

"That woman again! Why can't General Blackwood cut ties with her?" Rosalind's tone turned sharp with irritation.

"He never could. I regret saying yes to this marriage," Cassandra whispered, her throat tightening with unshed tears.

"Don't say that, Cassandra. General Blackwood adores you," Rosalind tried to comfort her.

The more Cassandra thought about it, the angrier she became. Hot tears pricked her eyes. "I don't trust him anymore. Victoria waltzes in and out of our home like she owns the place."

"She even had the nerve to question whether Liam was really the father of my baby and if we rushed into marriage. And he just stood there, not defending us at all!"

Rosalind gasped. "What? That's unacceptable! Cassandra, even if your family isn't here for you, I am. Hold on, I'm coming right now."

A gentle knock interrupted them. "Cassandra, open the door," Liam's voice filtered through.

Cassandra covered the phone and snapped, "I'm not hungry! Go have breakfast with your precious friend!"

Silence followed.

She collapsed onto the bed, pulling the covers over her head as she continued talking to Rosalind. Pregnancy had made her emotions volatile lately.

Deep down, she knew Liam probably meant no harm. She wouldn't have minded if Ryan had visited instead. It was Liam's constant involvement with Victoria that stung.

After reading for hours, Cassandra finally dozed off. Her phone's ringing startled her awake. Rosalind's name flashed on the screen. It was noon, and her stomach growled in protest.

"Rosalind?" she answered groggily.

"I'm here, but General Blackwood won't let me in. He's ordered me to leave!" Rosalind sounded furious.

Cassandra jumped up, throwing on a robe. "That's ridiculous! I'm coming down right now."

Liam was in the living room when she descended the stairs. He closed his laptop at the sound of her footsteps and approached her.

"You must be hungry. I've kept lunch warm for you," he said, reaching for her hand.

Cassandra pulled away. "Not hungry. I'm leaving with Rosalind."

As she tried to pass him, Liam caught her arm from behind and pulled her close. He rested his forehead against her shoulder. "Why are you so angry?"

Exhausted, Cassandra sighed. "Liam, if you didn't want a secret marriage, fine. But could you at least stop making me worry?"

"I'm with you every single day. Isn't that enough to reassure you?" Liam murmured, inhaling her familiar scent. His heartbeat quickened as he held her tighter, unwilling to let go.
