Chapter 492

"Don't you adore me?" Evelyn pouted playfully, feigning annoyance at him. "I cherish you," Liam responded with a warm smile.

"Then why won't you call me 'sweetheart' in that adorable voice of yours?" Evelyn's tone carried a hint of playful displeasure.

"I'd prefer declaring 'I love you' a million times over," Liam countered smoothly.

Evelyn's grin widened. Locking eyes with him, she challenged, "Very well then, say 'I love you' a million times."

Liam suddenly stopped walking and effortlessly scooped her into his arms.

"Why are you carrying me again?" Evelyn gasped, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck for support.

"You weren't watching your step. If you fell, it would shatter my heart," Liam stated with complete seriousness.

Evelyn nestled against his broad chest, her heart swelling with joy. A wave of warmth enveloped her, making her feel weightless with happiness. The moment felt dreamlike yet utterly perfect in its blissful reality.

Back at Blackwood Manor, Evelyn had just settled comfortably on the plush sofa when Rosalind called.

"Rosalind, what's the matter?" Evelyn answered softly.

"Cassandra, why did you leave so soon? We barely had time to reconnect." "Did Donovan manage to corner you?" Evelyn asked knowingly.

"No, he didn't catch me. He's currently in the shower," Rosalind whispered conspiratorially.

"Rosalind, what would you do if Donovan actually caught you?" There was a brief silence before Rosalind replied dejectedly, "He's making remarkable progress in his recovery. For the past six months, he's been pushing himself relentlessly to surpass me."

"He's undergoing intensive training, consulting specialists, and following every treatment protocol. I might resign once he fully recovers. Though my monthly compensation is quite substantial..."

"Don't concern yourself with finances. The Blackwoods can easily manage that," Evelyn reassured her. "Donovan's improvement is entirely thanks to your care."

"I'm simply fulfilling my professional duties. This is what I was hired to do."

"Rosalind, at least wait until Donovan's vision fully recovers before leaving." "He hardly needs my assistance anymore. Despite his blindness, he's become remarkably self-sufficient - sometimes even more capable than sighted individuals. He can chop vegetables and cook entire meals by touch alone," Rosalind marveled.

Her voice filled with admiration as she continued, "His determination ensures he excels at everything he attempts. When his sight returns, he'll be truly extraordinary."

"Indeed, Donovan has always been someone I deeply admire," Evelyn said proudly. Just then, Liam emerged from the kitchen carrying a tray of freshly cut fruit. His brow furrowed slightly upon hearing Evelyn's words. After setting down the tray, he settled beside her and playfully captured her hand, tracing gentle circles on her palm that made her giggle.

"I'm sorry about earlier," Rosalind apologized.

"Rosalind, do you think Donovan might be teasing you intentionally?" Evelyn hinted carefully.

Rosalind laughed heartily. "The harder he works at his recovery, the more it seems he dislikes me."

Evelyn sighed in response.

"As long as he continues improving, that's all that truly matters. I haven't failed his parents, and I can justify my generous salary," Rosalind said before exhaling deeply.

"You've more than earned it, Rosalind."

"So Cassandra, are you happy being married to General Blackwood?" Rosalind inquired with genuine curiosity.

Evelyn's gaze drifted to Liam. A radiant smile illuminated her face as she responded with a contented, "Mmm-hmm."

"I wish you endless happiness," Rosalind said warmly. "I won't keep you any longer. Congratulations on your second marriage!"
