Chapter 392

"Do you need assistance?" Evelyn asked softly, noticing Liam's hesitation by the bathroom door.

Liam had been waiting for her to leave. Her question only deepened his embarrassment. "I'm fine. You can go," he replied stiffly.

Evelyn's lips pursed when she remembered Victoria waiting outside. "I'll stay until you're finished, then help you back to bed."

Liam exhaled sharply, warmth creeping up his neck. His breathing grew uneven as he muttered hoarsely, "Cassandra, how am I supposed to... with you watching?"

Evelyn turned her back abruptly, cheeks burning. "I won't look. Just... proceed."

"Cassandra—" His voice held equal parts exasperation and affection.

"Stop stalling," she interrupted, fiddling with her sleeve hem. The awkwardness made her voice sharper than intended.

Liam couldn't bring himself to move. Her presence made the simple act impossible.

"Liam," she said softly, staring at the tiles. "Think of us as an old married couple. There's nothing to be shy about."

Her voice dropped to a whisper. "We have been married for half a year, even if we haven't... you know."

Defeated, Liam finally complied, jaw clenched tight against the humiliation.

To distract them both, he asked, "When exactly did you see me naked?"

Evelyn's ears turned crimson. "I may have... exaggerated that part."

"Do you help Donovan like this too?" Liam's tone darkened noticeably.

Evelyn stiffened. "Donovan's like family! I'd never—"

The toilet flushed. Liam moved to the sink in silence, washing his hands methodically.

Evelyn grabbed a towel before he could. "Donovan's just a dear friend. Don't misunderstand."

If Donovan was just a friend, what did that make him?

Liam dropped the towel without comment, allowing Evelyn to guide him back.

Once seated, Evelyn picked up a fork. "Let me feed you," she offered brightly.

Victoria's expression soured as she glared at Evelyn.

Ignoring her, Evelyn speared a bite of shepherd's pie and brought it to Liam's lips.

Liam glanced between the women, comprehension dawning. He accepted the bite without protest.

Evelyn beamed as he chewed.

"Victoria," Liam said after swallowing, "you should go. Cassandra can manage my care."

Victoria shot up, chair scraping loudly. "I'll return tomorrow," she bit out before storming away.
