Chapter 355
Evelyn's cheeks flushed crimson as she quickly averted her gaze from Liam.
"I'll take the Truth," Liam declared without hesitation.
Benjamin pondered for a brief moment before posing his question. "What's your ideal type of woman?"
Rosalind frowned in disapproval, shaking her head slightly.
"What a pointless waste of an opportunity," she muttered under her breath.
Victoria, however, leaned forward with keen interest. After casting a meaningful glance toward Evelyn, Liam answered calmly,
"Cassandra is my perfect match."
Victoria's expression soured instantly. Benjamin looked stunned, realizing too late he'd squandered his chance to ask something more revealing. Everyone already knew Liam's feelings for Cassandra. A warm sensation spread through Evelyn's chest, her heartbeat accelerating as she took an awkward sip of her juice.
"Forget it," Benjamin said shamelessly. "We all know you're smitten with her. Let me ask something else."
"Go ahead," Liam unexpectedly agreed.
Just as Benjamin opened his mouth, Victoria interjected sharply. "If you had to choose between love and your military career, which would you pick?"
Liam's face grew serious. Rosalind and Benjamin exchanged shocked looks before turning back to Liam. The question was clearly designed to trap him.
"What kind of question is that?" Rosalind demanded.
Victoria shot her a glare. "There are no restrictions on questions in this game."
"You—" Rosalind sputtered with frustration. She glanced at Evelyn and noticed her grim expression.
Liam took a deep breath before downing his drink in one gulp, his chest tightening visibly.
Benjamin quickly tried to diffuse the tension. "Let's change the—"
"No changes," Victoria insisted firmly. "Answer the question, Liam. Career or love?"
Evelyn's gaze turned icy as she stared at Victoria. "Career," she stated decisively.
Victoria scoffed. "I was asking Liam, not you."
"That's his answer," Evelyn countered stubbornly.
"How would you know?" Victoria challenged. "You're not him."
Evelyn clenched her teeth, recognizing Victoria's ploy to force Liam to verbally prioritize his career. She took a large gulp of juice to quell the fire burning in her chest.
After composing herself, Evelyn continued, "He's the General of Aldenria's military - the cornerstone of our nation's defense and weapons development. National duty outweighs personal feelings. What's there to question?"
Liam gave a bitter smile. "Is that what you truly believe?"
Victoria looked astonished. Everyone turned to Liam simultaneously. His eyes darkened with sorrow as he absentmindedly sipped his drink and sighed.
When his gaze met Evelyn's, unshed tears glistened in his eyes. "Any capable soldier could become General of Aldenria. Our nation has no shortage of heroes like Donovan. But there's only one Cassandra Wright in this world."
Evelyn stood frozen, completely stunned. She'd assumed Liam would naturally choose his career, just as she would have. Rosalind and Benjamin appeared deeply moved by his words.
Victoria's face flushed with anger. "Liam, do you even realize what you're saying?"
Liam remained composed. "I want both my career and love. But if forced to choose, I choose Cassandra."
