Chapter 316

Evelyn glanced through the rearview mirror, finding Liam resting peacefully with his eyes closed.

A sudden wave of bitterness and anger surged within her, but it was Liam's calm demeanor that infuriated her most.

Before discovering her true identity, he had claimed to adore her for a decade. Now, those words rang hollow. Was it all just retaliation for her rejection?

Meanwhile, Victoria kept chattering about her shared history with Liam. "For my birthday, Liam went above and beyond—he baked me a cake from scratch. Put his whole heart into it."

Evelyn's chest tightened painfully. Forcing a smile, she turned to Liam and softly called, "Liam."

Startled, he met her gaze. "Yes?" His voice was gentle.

Victoria's expression darkened as her eyes darted between them.

With a subtle smile, Evelyn said, "I'd love to try your cake too. Could you bake one for me?"

Liam's lips curved slightly. "Of course."

"When are you free?" she pressed.

His gaze softened. "Whenever you want."

"How about tonight?"

"No problem."

"I want chocolate flavor," Evelyn added playfully.

"Consider it done," Liam replied sincerely.

Rosalind stifled a laugh watching the exchange.

Victoria bit her lip, arms crossed as she stared out the window.

After three hours, they pulled into a rest stop.

Evelyn entered the shop, scanning the menu when Victoria's voice interrupted.

"Liam, I want the beef noodles, but the portion's too big. Been dieting. Share with me?"

Evelyn watched from the corner of her eye.

"They might make a smaller portion," Liam suggested.

Victoria nudged him. "That's wasteful!"

Evelyn's chest constricted. She looked away, unsettled by her own jealousy despite having no right.

Liam sighed. "Fine, order it."

As Victoria ordered, Evelyn told the waiter, "Seafood pasta, no onions or parsley."

Victoria teased, "Ms. Wright, you're quite particular."

Evelyn met her gaze coolly. "Having preferences isn't a crime."

Victoria then asked Liam, "Get me some yogurt?"

"Sure." Their long friendship made such requests natural. He turned to Evelyn. "What about you, Cass?"

Gripping her thumb tightly, she forced a smile. "Two plum juices."

Liam frowned. "You hate sour drinks."

"People change," she clipped.

"Alright." He left for the store.

At the table, Evelyn and Rosalind sat opposite Liam and Victoria—though originally, Evelyn and Liam were meant to face each other.
