Chapter 282

Liam looked as striking as always, though his complexion had lost its usual glow. His lips were cracked and pale.

"Liam, wait here. I need to change." Evelyn quickly pulled some clothes from the wardrobe and disappeared into the bathroom.

Liam had no clue what she was planning. He just wanted her to come away with him. Moments later, Evelyn emerged wearing different attire. She stuffed essentials into a small backpack before approaching him.

"Let's go, Liam."

"You're actually coming with me?" His voice held surprise.

"No, I'm taking you to see a doctor. Everyone's asleep now. We'll sneak out through the front entrance." She reached for his arm.

"I don't need a doctor." He pulled his hand away sharply. "I'm fine."

"You're clearly ill, yet you claim you're fine?" Evelyn's voice rose in frustration.

"That's none of your concern," Liam replied icily.

Evelyn glared at his haggard face, her heart twisting painfully. Tears pricked at her eyes. "If my wellbeing isn't your business, then what right do you have meddling in my affairs?"

Her words cut through Liam like razor blades. The pain was unbearable.

He clenched his fists, staring at the ceiling with red-rimmed eyes. After a shaky breath, he murmured, "Cassandra, must you always be so stubborn?"

After a tense silence, Evelyn forced a bitter smile. "Liam, do you even recognize who I am now that my memories have returned?"

Liam met her tear-filled gaze.

"It's been ten years since we last saw each other. You don't know me at all. No, you don't know Cassandra Wright," she stated firmly.

"You're right," Liam admitted with a hollow laugh, his voice fading. "You're neither the Cassandra I knew nor the Evelyn after amnesia. I... I don't know you anymore."

The crack in his voice shattered Evelyn's heart. She instinctively reached for his hand. "Liam."

He jerked away, stepping back. Bloodshot eyes burned into hers. "Take care of yourself."

Turning toward the balcony, he pushed open the glass door—only to stumble. His hand barely caught the doorframe in time.

"Liam!" Evelyn rushed forward just as his body collapsed against hers. She barely managed to drag his unconscious form to the bed, gasping for breath.

"Liam?" She shook him gently before pressing a hand to his forehead. His skin burned with fever, his entire body drenched in cold sweat.

Panicked, Evelyn grabbed her phone and scrolled for Rosalind's number. But her finger hovered over the call button, hesitation freezing her in place.
