Chapter 279
"What's our destination?"
Evelyn hesitated briefly before turning to Rosalind. "We're staying at Wright Manor," she declared.
Rosalind's expression turned incredulous. "Wright Manor? Are you out of your mind?"
Evelyn sighed. "It's the only way you can protect my grandparents properly."
Without another word, Rosalind marched inside to pack their belongings.
An hour later, in the grand foyer of Wright Manor, Evelyn and Rosalind stood with matching designer suitcases at their feet.
The staff exchanged bewildered glances, their skepticism palpable as they observed the unexpected guests.
Margaret was equally stunned, her eyes fixed on the luggage with undisguised shock. The absurdity of the situation nearly made her laugh.
"Since when did Wright Manor become a homeless shelter?" Margaret's voice dripped with contempt. "What makes you think you can just waltz into my home? The audacity is both laughable and pathetic."
Evelyn remained composed. "Grandmother, I'm recently divorced with nowhere to go. I only hoped to stay here temporarily."
Margaret let out a derisive snort. "Winston, show these trespassers out," she commanded the butler.
As they turned to leave, Evelyn murmured just loud enough to be heard, "Fine, I'll just return to Liam's estate then."
Margaret's hand shot up. "Wait!"
Evelyn and Rosalind exchanged a knowing glance before turning back, faint smiles playing on their lips.
After a tense silence, Margaret relented. "The family owns several properties. Take your pick. Or stay at any five-star hotel you prefer."
Evelyn shook her head, adopting an innocent tone. "I only have eyes for Blackwood Manor and Wright Manor. If not here, then Blackwood it is."
Margaret's face darkened with fury. "You're utterly shameless."
Unfazed, Evelyn turned to Rosalind. "What did Liam say earlier?"
Rosalind cleared her throat dramatically. "Mr. Blackwood said he wants to reconcile and remarry you."
Evelyn shrugged nonchalantly. "Well, that's not entirely off the table—"
Margaret's voice thundered through the hall. "Winston! Prepare the east wing guest suites immediately!"
Evelyn's smile could have lit up the room. "Thank you, Grandmother."
She handed her luggage to a maid and grabbed Rosalind's hand, leading the way upstairs.
Every step through the familiar halls twisted Evelyn's heart. She never imagined returning to her childhood home under such circumstances, facing such hostility from her own flesh and blood.
Two hours later, Victoria returned from shopping to find the mansion filled with her latest designer purchases. Her satisfaction evaporated when she learned about their new "houseguests."
Discovering it was Evelyn sent her into a rage.
Victoria's scream echoed through the halls. "I never consented to this! Get them out now!"
Julian rushed back from the hospital upon hearing the news.
In the grand parlor, Evelyn and Rosalind sat calmly sipping tea while chaos erupted around them.
Victoria stood fuming, her expression murderous as she vowed to remove them at any cost.
Julian, though initially shocked, seemed more intrigued than angry.
Yet suspicion nagged at him. No matter how desperate Evelyn might be, moving into Wright Manor made no sense. Especially accompanied by this mysterious woman.
Victoria pointed at the door, her voice dangerously low. "Leave. Now."
Evelyn rose gracefully, her smile razor-sharp. "Your grandmother invited us. You have no authority here."
Victoria's eyes narrowed. "Evelyn, what game are you playing? What sick scheme is this?"
Evelyn tilted her head. "Ms. Wright, when it comes to scheming, I'm just an amateur compared to you. Don't worry - I simply couldn't sleep knowing you stole my husband."
She leaned forward, her voice dropping to a venomous whisper. "So I decided to move in and make your life miserable. Consider it... therapy."
