Chapter 247
The live stream continued to reveal damning information.
Evelyn couldn't take it anymore. She collapsed onto the sofa, her mind swirling with chaos as tears threatened to spill. At this moment, she needed Liam more than ever.
If this continued, she might have to reveal her true identity. But with two compelling DNA reports circulating, who would believe her? She barely believed it herself, let alone the internet trolls.
Her phone vibrated. Evelyn picked it up to see a message from Dominic.
"Dear sister, Mom and Dad are demanding $80 million in compensation. Handle it."
With a violent motion, Evelyn hurled her phone across the room. She lay on the sofa with her eyes closed, body trembling with rage and pain.
"Who am I? What's my real identity?" she cried internally, drowning in sorrow and fury.
As twilight descended, Liam disembarked from his private jet with two aides and rushed back to Blackwood Manor.
Entering the darkened house, he flicked on the lights. His polished shoes crunched over shattered phone glass near the entrance.
His warm gaze fell upon Evelyn, asleep on the couch with tear tracks staining her cheeks.
Liam knelt slowly, his tender expression fixed on Evelyn's peaceful face. Seeing her tears made his heart constrict.
She was supposed to be the cherished jewel of the Wright family. Yet she'd endured so much suffering.
Gently, Liam brushed away her tears. The moment he'd seen the online reports, he'd rushed back. He hadn't expected her to find out.
As he reached to lift her, Evelyn's tear-filled eyes fluttered open.
Seeing Liam, fresh tears spilled down her cheeks. She threw herself into his arms, burying her face in his shoulder.
"Liam, you're back?"
Her choked sobs made his chest tighten.
"The Carters are despicable!" Evelyn gasped between cries. "I don't care what they do to me! But they're destroying your reputation, making you a global laughingstock!"
With each word, her anger grew until she couldn't contain it. "What do we do? The entire internet is attacking me, mocking you and the Blackwoods!"
Liam sat on the couch, pulling Evelyn onto his lap. "Don't worry," he murmured into her hair. "Leave this to me."
Evelyn rested her cheek against his chest, taking shaky breaths. After a long pause, she whispered, "Liam...if I told you I'm not Evelyn Carter...would you believe me?"
Liam stiffened in surprise.
Evelyn pulled back to meet his gaze. "I thought I was Evelyn, but now...I don't know who I am. Those DNA reports are fake. Do you believe me?"
Liam's brow furrowed, his expression darkening. He'd thought only he knew the truth - but apparently Evelyn had discovered it too.
