Chapter 199

The Muzat forces were clearly a force to be reckoned with. Their defenses were nearly impenetrable.

Evelyn Carter remained on high alert.

Suddenly, the door to the room burst open.

At the loud noise, her fingers tightened around the pistol. Her body went rigid. Her heartbeat accelerated. Cold sweat trickled down her spine. She strained her ears as the footsteps grew closer.

"Evelyn."

That calm, familiar voice made her hand tremble. She thought it must be her imagination playing tricks on her. She tried to steady her ragged breathing.

"Evelyn."

Liam Blackwood's voice came again. This time, she knew it was real.

She threw open the closet door. The moonlight streaming through the window outlined the familiar silhouette of a man.

All of Liam's fears evaporated the moment he saw her hiding there. Relief flooded through him.

Tears sprang to Evelyn's eyes immediately. She rushed from the closet straight into his arms.

"Is it really you, Liam?" She clung to him desperately, burying her face in his chest.

It felt surreal yet comforting.

Liam held her tightly, pressing a kiss to her forehead. His racing heart still ached.

He'd been terrified ever since she was taken to Muzat. Every second without her had been agony. When the mercenaries failed to secure the area after a day, he couldn't wait any longer. He'd infiltrated alone, following an anonymous tip to find her.

"Don't worry, it's me." His deep voice was barely above a whisper.

Gradually, Evelyn calmed in his embrace. She sniffled and looked up at him.

"How did you get in? They have advanced weaponry. Their firepower rivals our own."

Liam took her hand and moved toward the door. "I'll explain later," he murmured.

Outside was pitch black. Gunfire echoed through the night.

Guiding her carefully, they navigated through obstacles, avoiding enemies engaged in combat. Every step was fraught with danger.

When they reached the warehouse's rear, Evelyn tugged his hand. "Wait. We need to destroy the drugs here first."

Leaning against the wall, Liam kept watch. "I didn't bring explosives. It's impossible."

"We don't need them. One bullet into those containers will trigger an explosion. This is our only chance."

Liam chuckled and ruffled her hair. "That's naive thinking."

"Trust me," she insisted. "Alexander had me pose as a scientist to inspect their stock. I discovered they mixed two highly flammable chemical compounds. One's similar to rubidium - contact with water or fire causes detonation."

Liam's brow furrowed. "Alexander who?"

"Your brother, Alexander Blackwood."

Liam's eyes widened in shock. His entire body tensed.

"You didn't know?" Evelyn asked, puzzled. "He's the one who sent your rescue message."

With danger all around, they couldn't linger.

Liam pushed aside his confusion. "Will the explosion be massive?"

"No, more like firecrackers. It won't breach the walls but will destroy everything inside."

Without further questions, Liam carefully led her to the warehouse entrance. He cracked open a gap in the wall and fired a single shot.

Instantly, a series of explosions lit up the night like fireworks.

Liam quickly pulled her into the forest, their escape continuing through the darkness.
