Chapter 184

Evelyn's body went rigid. She shoved against Liam's chest with all her strength.

His arms only tightened around her in response. He buried his face in her silken hair, inhaling her delicate floral scent.

"Don't leave me, Evie," he whispered hoarsely, his voice cracking with emotion. "Please reconsider the divorce."

Tears burned behind Evelyn's eyelids as she shook her head against his shoulder.

Liam squeezed his eyes shut, the red veins stark against his pale skin. His entire world was crumbling.

First Victoria's betrayal. Now Evelyn walking away. The pain was unbearable.

He'd survived gunshot wounds and knife fights, but nothing compared to this soul-crushing agony.

Love wasn't worth this torment. Never again.

Drawing a shuddering breath, Liam forced himself to speak calmly. "In these six months together... did you ever care for me at all?"

She had loved him desperately. But each heartbreak had left deeper scars than the last.

How could she keep loving a man whose heart belonged to another? Victoria still owned every piece of him.

Evelyn straightened her spine. "Never," she lied coldly.

The words stabbed through Liam's chest like a white-hot blade. The pain stole his breath.

He released her abruptly, stepping back. His voice was eerily calm despite his bloodshot eyes. "Is this truly what you want?"

"My decision is final." She couldn't meet his gaze.

Liam's hands clenched into fists. "Where are the papers?"

Evelyn turned mechanically toward the bedroom. She returned with the divorce documents and a pen, placing them on the coffee table.

Love wasn't everything. He'd survived losing Victoria - this would pass too.

His signature slashed across the page without hesitation. The pen clattered onto the table as he turned away.

Evelyn stood frozen. All her mental preparation shattered the moment the papers were signed.

The pain was a thousand times worse than she'd imagined. Silent tears streamed down her face, her body trembling.

Rosalind entered and immediately understood. She wrapped Evelyn in a warm embrace. "Let it out, darling."

Evelyn leaned limply against her friend. The tears kept falling, but no sobs came.

Sometimes heartbreak left you too hollow to even cry properly. Just an empty shell where your heart used to be.
