Chapter 63

Leaving the office, Isabella hopped into a cab and headed home to pack her bags.

As soon as she got in, she called Ava and told her to quickly pack a few outfits and wait by the door.

When Isabella pulled up, Ava was already there. Without even getting out,Isabella grabbed the luggage and made a beeline for the airport.

While waiting at a red light, she noticed a familiar black business car next to hers.

The rear window was down, and she could clearly see two people inside:one was Michael, and the other was a stunning girl she didn't recognize.

Michael had his back to Isabella and was facing Lucy inside the car.Lucy had her hands on Michael's shoulders, saying something with a bright smile on her face, a smile so dazzling it hurt Isabella's eyes.

'He must really like Lucy, huh?' Isabella thought.

The cab driver handed Isabella a pack of tissues and said, "Here, wipe your tears."

Only then did Isabella realize she was already crying.

As she was boarding the plane, Isabella's phone rang. It was Michael calling.

She didn't know what Michael would say, but if it was to end their marriage, she wanted that moment to come a little later. So she turned off her phone.

"Whose call was that? Why didn't you answer? Was it your husband? Is he not letting you go on this trip?" Vaughn asked curiously. He had a

mischievous side, thinking that if he could cause some trouble between them,he might have a chance.

Isabella didn't want to deal with him and closed her eyes to sleep.

Vaughn, feeling bored, started ordering various drinks from the flight attendant.

"Sir,are you okay?"

"Sir,wake up."

Isabella was sleeping soundly when she was suddenly awakened by the noise around her.

She opened her eyes to see a group of people gathered around their seats.Vaughn was lying on the floor, unconscious, with colorful vomit all over him and the floor.

Isabella was terrified. She was accompanying Vaughn on this business trip, and now he was in trouble. She couldn't bear the responsibility.

"What happened to him?" Isabella asked the flight attendant nearby.

"We initially suspect it's an allergic reaction. We've already called an ambulance, and he can be taken to the hospital as soon as we land. Are you with this gentleman?"

Isabella nodded.

"Do you know what he's allergic to?"

Isabella shook her head.

"And you are...?"

"He's my boss. I'm accompanying him on this business trip," Isabella

replied.

As soon as they got off the plane, Isabella quickly grabbed their luggage.Vaughn was escorted by airport staff to the ambulance, and Isabella went with him to the hospital.

Vaughn had a severe allergic reaction. After emergency treatment and injections, he was out of danger by midnight.

Seeing him open his eyes and come back to life, Isabella finally breathed a sigh of relief.

She had imagined the worst outcome. If Vaughn had died while on a business trip with her, the Johnson Group would blacklist her in the industry, and she wouldn't even be able to beg for a living for the rest of her life.

"Where is this place? It smells awful," Vaughn said, just waking up and already complaining.

"The hospital. You were taken here right after gettingoff the plane,"Isabella said.

Vaughn looked around the small room, which was crowded with six patients and their companions, making it over a dozen people in total. He couldn't heIp but frown and complain, "Is there a VIP room? Or at least a private or double room?"

Isabella, sitting by the bed, was so exhausted she could barely keep her eyes open. She mumbled, "This is a public hospital. No VIP rooms here, and beds are scarce. Be grateful you even have a bed. You'll be out by morning."

"What? I have to stay here until morning?" Vaughn, anxious, tried to sit up but felt dizzy and fell back down. He had vomited everything out on the plane and had been unconscious without eating, so hisenergy was

completely drained. Lying on the bed, staring at the ceiling, he said in despair, "You want me to stay in this stuffy, smelly place until morning?P'd rather you kill me."

Isabella thought to herself, 'You have the nerve to complain about the smell. Don't you know you vomited all over yourself? The stench has killed my appetite.'

Isabella was curious. Vaughn had been fine when they boarded the plane. How did he suddenly have an allergic reaction? She asked, "Mr. Johnson, why did you suddenly have an allergic reaction?"

Vaughn wasn't about to tell her that he had been curious and tried all the drinks on the plane, only to end up drinking his nemesis, peach juice.

Usually, his secretary was strict about what he could eat and drink. Finally free from those restrictions, he ended up in the hospital.

"I might be allergic to the air on the plane," Vaughn said evasively.

Michael called Isabella, but she didn't answer. When he called again, her phone was off.

He thought her phone might have died and didn't pay much attention until he suddenly received a call from Eric.

"What's up?" Michael answered coldly.

"Can't I call my boyfriend just because I have nothing to do?" Eric said with a laugh.

"I don't think you're the type to call me just to chat," Michael said.

"Did you two have a fight?" Eric asked directly.

"Me and who?" Michael was puzzled.

"Who else? Isabella," Eric said, exasperated. Michael must have upset Isabella without even realizing it.

"Oh, I called her, but her phone was off. Maybe it died," Michael recalled. She had been fine when he dropped her off in the morning. She couldn't be mad just because of a missed call.

"She's on a business trip and you don't know about it," Eric said gleefully.

"What business trip?" Michael was confused. Since when did the design department start doing PR work?

"She's on a business trip with Vaughn. Thanks to someone, the deal she just closed became her own company's. To meet the year-end performance targets, Vaughn has to go out of town to find opportunities," Eric explained.

"Doesn't he have a secretary or assistant?" Michael asked.

"Vaughn has a secretary, but his secretary doesn't understand the business. If he wants to secure a project, he needs to bring someone who does," Eric said.

Michael was speechless. He had caused this mess himself.

"Baby, if you keep ignoring me and talking on the phone,I'm going to tell on you to Grandpa!" Lucy threatened when she saw Michael still on the phone.

"I've told you a million times, don't call me baby. Why don't you ever listen? If you keep this up, I'll have someone send you back to your mom for a proper lesson," Michael said harshly, dragging Lucy away.

"Fine, I won't call you that. Big deal. My mom won't care. Otherwise, she wouldn't have sent me to you," Lucy yelled at Michael, hands on her hips.

With some peace and quiet. Michael realized something was off. Isabella hadn't told him about the business trip and wasn't answering his calls.Something was definitely up. Michael liked to solve problems on the spot,so he immediately contacted Eric to find out the hotel and room number where Isabella and Vaughn were staying and headed to Evergreen Valley.
