Chapter 97

Flynn's heart pounded at the sound of his wife Grace Hernandez's rough.gravelly voice. He could almost picture her towering frame, furious and ready to flatten him with a single punch.

Flynn's voice trembled. "Sweetheart, please don't misunderstand. That was for a guest. I would never betray you."

Grace snapped, "I saw everything. Just you wait. I'm coming to deal with you right now."

The callended, and Flynn was already drenched in sweat.

He quickly threw on his clothes and shouted at Eleanor, who was still lying in bed, "What are you doing just lying there? Get out, my wife's coming! She won't spare us."

Eleanor casually played with her long hair, unfazed. "Mr. Campbell, are you seriously afraid of your wife? If she's so fierce and unromantic, why don't you just divorce her and marry me?"

Flynn, exasperated, retorted, "A woman like you is only good for fun.Who would marry you? If you don't leave now, don't blame me when she comes after you."

Not daring to stay any longer, Flynn bolted out of the room.

Eleanor seethed, biting her lip. These men were all the same-sweet talk during the act, but they turned on you the moment it was over.

Flynn barely made it to the living room before Grace caught him.Seeing his guilty expression, she rolled up her sleeves and started swinging.

Dennis reported the commotion to Jonathan. The more people who witnessed this drama, the better.

Jonathan gave Kathie a knowing look. "Ms. Cavendish,we should go visit Mr. Roberts."

Kathie nodded in understanding and wheeled herself to Austin's room.

"Mr. Roberts, how are you feeling? Is your headache better?" Kathie asked warmly.

Austin, grateful, replied, "Much better, Ms. Cavendish. Thank you so much for your help. We've decided to go ahead with the collaboration with Mr.Berkeley:"

Jonathan was thrilled. "I promise you won't regret this decision, Mr.Roberts."

Austin had already heard about Flynn's scandal from his assistant. He wanted nothing to do with someone so morally corrupt.

"We'll sign the contract tomorrow and bring my wife to experience Eldoria. We hope you'll join us, Ms. Cavendish."

"Of course, it would be my pleasure. But I must confess, I'm not actually Mr. Berkeley's secretary. I'm his primary physician. I accompanied him because of my concerns for his health and pretended to be his secretary to support his work."

Austin anad his wife exchanged amused glances. "No wonder youI're so skilled. You're amazing. We hope you'll help us with our health in the future."

Kathie agreed readily. "No problem. I'm happy to help."

Jonathan felt a surge of gratitude. Convincing Austin had gone smoothly, thanks to Kathie. Without her, it wouldn't have been possible.

Austin turned to Jonathan. "We've also hit it off with Dr. Cavendish, and it

s because of our trust in you that I'm willing to reconsider the partnership.Mr. Berkeley, you're truly fortunate to htave such an excellent doctor."

Jonathan's eyes were filled with affection. "Dr. Cavendish is indeed wonderful. She saved my life and gave me a new lease on it."

Kathie felt her heart race under his sincere gaze. She took a deep breath to stay calm. "You should rest early. We'll leave together tomorrow."

Kenna smiled. "See you tomorrow."

Back in his room. Jonathan received a call from Keith.

"Hey.Jonathan, how's it going over there? Everything settled?"

"Yeah, all set. We're heading back to Eldoria tomorrow. What about the investigation?"

"We've made some headway. Mr. Barnes' people caught one of the hitmen. After some persuasion, he confessed that a woman hired them to kill you.She was heavily disguised and used a voice changer, so we couldn't identify her."

"A woman? And she went to such lengths to hide her identity?"

Jonathan was taken aback. He had suspected Gerald, thinking it would confirm Gerald's role in his fall. But now, it wasn't Gerald. Who could it be?

The fact that she used a voice changer suggested she was someone close to him, worried about being recognized.

Jonathan felt a pang of sadness at the thought of someone cose wanting him dead.

"Keep digging and let me know if you find anything."

"Will do. By the way, I heard you had a wildcat in your room that scratched you up. Looks like you finally found out what it's like to be with a woman."

Jonathan cleared his throat. "Who told you that?"

Keith chuckled. "I was with Ben picking up Dr. Cavendish's kids. They mentioned it. Seems like you've finally fallen for someone."

"Enough nonsense. I'm hanging up."

"Wait. I need to remind you. If you're just having fun, fine. But don't forget your status. Your parents will never accept her as your wife."

As a good friend. Keith felt he had to remind Jonathan of his position.

People of their status married to consolidate power, not for love.

Jonathan was resolute. "If I can't choose my own partner, then my position means nothing. Stop worrying and keep investigating."

Jonathan hung up and saw Kathie preparing acupuncture for him, feeling a wave of warmth.

He knew exactly what he was doing. From the moment he decided to stay by her side, he had chosen Kathie.

"Why are you staring at me?"

Jonathan didn't hesitate. "Admiring a beautiful woman."

With everything resolved, Kathie was in a good mood. "Tomorrow we can go back and see the kids. That's great."

Jonathan checked the time. "We still have time. Let's go to the mall and .pick out some gifts for them. You promised them, remember?"

Kathie smacked her forehead. "I've been so busy, I forgot. You're so

thoughtful."

Jonathan said seriously, "I consider them as my own. Whether you believe it or not."

Jonathan had felt a special bond with the kids from the first time he met them,as if they were his own.

"They really like you."

"And you?"

Kathie turned away, but Jonathan gently turned her face back, his deep eyes locking onto hers.

He teased, "Are you really gonna fight your feelings? Just admit you like me already. How are you gonna teach our kids to be honest if you're not honest yourself?"

Kathie, flustered, said, "Fine, I like you. Happy now? But that has nothing to do with teaching the kids. I can't just tell them to follow their hearts and be with whoever they want."

Jonathan pulled her close and kissed her deeply. "You can. I'll give you that right."

Kathie looked at him, seeing the sincerity in his eyes. But she pulled away."Let's go, or the mall will close,"
