Chapter 79

In the executive office of the Berkeley Group. Jonathan was handling company documents when Ben knocked on his door.

"Mr. Berkeley, Alan is here," Ben announced.

Jonathan smiled. "That was quick. Send him in."

Ben escorted Alan into the office. "Mr. Berkeley, I apologize for disturbing you." Alan said respectfully. "I wanted to ask why you removed my name from the hospital director candidates list?"

He had been absolutely certain of securing this position, but now Jonathan directly canceled it for him.

The key issue was that he didn't even know what he had done wrong, so he came over specifically to get a clear explanation.

Jonathan set down his pen calmly. "It's simple. Your family shows poor character, which reflects on your upbringing. I can't entrust someone like you with such an important position."

Alan looked confused. "Could you please be more specific?"

Jonathan fixed him with an intimidating stare. "You've heard about the recent incidents at the research institute, haven't you?"

"I'm not sure what that has to do with me," Alan replied.

"Perhaps you should ask your daughter why she's been spreading malicious rumors about Katie," Jonathan said coldly. "She's my doctor and she saved my life. I won't tolerate anyone mistreating her."

·Alan's eyes widened. "Are you suggesting my daughter is behind this?Surely she wouldn't be so foolish."

"Do you think I'm making false accusations? Why don't you ask her yourself?"

Alan grew visibly nervous. If his daughter was responsible, his career was in serious trouble.

"Tll investigate immediately. Mr. Berkeley. If she's involved, I'll make it right."

Jonathan continued,"Dr. Cavendish is a woman of integrity. She's divorced, and regarding her alleged pursuer-you just met my assistant. He was simply driving her to work when your daughter fabricated stories about themn. Congratulations on your excellent parenting, Alan."

Alan was sweating profusely. "I promise I'll resolve this to your satisfaction."

Jonathan dismissed him with a wave. "See that you do. If this isn't handled properly, your career ends here."

Alan nodded repeatedly before leaving anxiously.

Back at his office, Alan immediately summoned Amelia. When she arrived, she greeted him affectionately. "Dad, why did you call me? Good news?"

Alan pushed her away. "You fool! Do you realize what you've done?"

Amelia was shocked by her father's uncharacteristic anger. "Dad, why are you so upset with me?"

Alan raised his hand to slap her but stopped himself. "I should do more than yell at you. Did you spread those rumors about Katie?"

"Dad, why do you suddenly care about this? Do you have something going on with her? What would Mom think?"

This time Alan couldn't restrain himself. He slapped her across the face.

Amelia held her cheek in disbelief. "You've never hit me before, and now you're doing it for that woman?"

"You idiot! You're destroying us both! Do you know who Katie's patron is?Jonathan Berkeley! He's on the hospital board and has shares in the research institute. Are you trying to ruin our family?"

Amelia's eyes widened. "Jonathan is protecting her?"

"Yes, and after learning about this, he immediately removed me from consideration for the director position. Do you know how hard I've worked for that opportunity? You've ruined everything!"

Amelia knew exactly who Jonathan was-the most powerful mån in Eldoria.

"He said Dr. Cavendish saved his life," Alan continued. "If we don't make this right. our careers are finished."

"We can't let that happen after everything we've worked for," Amelia said.

"Then you need to apologize-beg on your knees if necessary. Make her forgive you, or you're no longer my daughter."

Alan normally spoiled his daughter, but when his career was threatened, family loyalty took a backseat.

Amelia clenched her jaw. She despised Katie and had worked hard to drive her away. Having to publicly apologize felt like trampling on her own dignity.

"Dad,I can't do it."

"If you can't, I'll cancel all your credit cards and disown you.Your choice."

Hearing this, Amelia panicked. She knew without her father's protection, she was nothing.

"Fine, T'll do it."

"Do it immediately."

At the research institute, Katie was focused on her experiment when a female colleague passed by and said, "I'm sorry."

Katie was confused. Even Henry was looking at her apologetically. She didn't understand what was happening.

Soon her phone buzzed with a notification. It was a public apology from Amelia: [I, Amelia, hereby publicly apologize to Ms. Cavendish. The rumors circulating at the research institute were fabricated by me out of jealousy when I saw her with a man I was interested in. I spread false information and insulted her children. I deeply regret my actions and beg for her forgiveness.]

Katie read it twice, confirming it was indeed from Amelia's account. The research institute had also issued an official statement condemning Amelia's behavior.

Katie couldn't understand this sudden change of heart. Just this morning,Amelia had been arrogant and dismissive. Had Bradley intervened on her behalf?

While Katie was still pondering this, Amelia appeared before her and bowed deeply in front of everyone. "Dr. Cavendish, I'm sorry. I sincerely apologize for everything I've done to you."

Katie looked perplexed. "Dr. Griffin, thisis quite a sudden change. Did something happen?"

Inwardly, Amelia was seething., 'She's playing innocent. She knows exactly what happened. I underestimated her-I had no idea her connections were so powerful.
