Chapter 70
Kathie now knew that Waler was involved in her mother's death, but she never imagined that her newborn sister had actually been alive at birth.
She thought bitterly. 'To kill his own newborn daughter - he's an absolute monster!
"Do you have evidence that any of this is true?" Kathie asked coldly.
Melissa gave a cynical laugh. "I wouldn't have asked you to come if I didn't. The head of obstetrics back then was Abigail Rodriguez. She resigned and left the country after your mother died, but she's maintained contact with Walter all these years. She did your father's dirty work, and in return,he promised her a lifetime of wealth."
The name Abigail struck a chord with Kathie. While reviewing company finances, she had noticed annual payments to someone by that name, labeled as "equipment purchases."
So Walter had been using Scarlett's inheritance to support the very person who helped kill her. How could people be so cruel?
"Do you know Abigail's address?" Kathie asked.
"I'm not sure. A few years ago, I overheard your father on the phone with her. They mentioned Blackhaven. When I asked about it, he flew into a rage and told me never to bring it up again."
Kathie's eyes hardened. "So Abigail is likely in Blackhaven. Do you have any way to contact her?"
Melissa shook her head. "I tried investigating before, hoping to find something to use against them, but I came up empty. With Jonathan's connections, though, you should be able to find her."
Kathie stared at her intently. "Is there anything else you need to tell me?"Melissa visibly faltered before claiming, "I've told you everything I know."
Standing up. Kathie said icily, "If I find out you're lying to me, the person you love most will suffer terribly."
Melissa clenched her fists, knowing she couldn't hide the truth. "I admit it.I was responsible for your mother's death. I bribed the doctor to ensure she wouldn't survive. But I truly had no idea that the newborn was alive-Walter killed her."
The pain was almost unbearable. Kathie took a deep breath to steady herself.
"You both deserve to die," she said. "Turn yourself in, or I swear I'll make Randy throw your daughter and grandson out on the street."
"You..."
"Save your breath. I will divorce Randy, but you need to face the consequences of your actions. DDon't think that murder can be erased just because time has passed."
Melissa lowered her head. "I'll turn myself in. But if you don't divorce Randy, I'll haunt you even from beyond the grave."
As Kathie turned to leave, she thought of her mother's gentle face and felt tears silently falling. She had dealt with Melissa, but there was still one more person responsible whom she would never let escape justice.
Outside the detention center, Shirley rushed up to her. "I called Randy, but he refuses to divorce you."
Kathie frowned at Shirley's eagerness. Despite her hatred for what Shirley and her daughter had done, for her children's sake, she had chosen
forgiveness and wanted to move forward with the divorce.
"I will divorce him. If he doesn't agree, I'll file a lawsuit."
Shirley's face contorted with anger. "You must be feeling quite smug now.Randy revolves around you and has no time for us. All my scheming has turned into a joke."
Kathie could only laugh at the absurdity. "Only you would treasure garbage like Randy. I'm going to find him right now and end this marriage today."
"Really?" Shirley couldn't believe her luck.
"Unlike you, I don't have ulterior motives," Kathie said before walking away with the agreement.
Since she had already taken the day off, she decided to resolve everything now. She called Randy and arranged to meet.
Randy was thrilled to receive her call, but his face fell when he arrived at the café and saw the divorce papers in front of her.
"Kathie, you asked me here for a divorce?"
She glared at him coldly. "What else? Did you think this wwas a date? I've already signed the agreement. All you need to do is finalize it with me."
Randy refused. "This isn't my agreement, and I have no intention of divorcing you."
"I'm walking away with nothing. What more do you want? We've tortured each other for years-it's time to end this completely." Kathie's tone left no room for negotiation.
Randy sat down dejectedly. After a moment, he said, "If you really want a divorce, fine, but I have one condition."
She was already giving up everything, yet he still had the audacity to make demands. Kathie was curious to hear what he would say.
"Go on."
"We never consummated our marriage, yet you had three children with another man. This has caused me immense psychological damage.I need compensation."
"Compensation?" Kathie couldn't believe her ears.
Randy nodded self-righteously. "Yes. I need fifty million dollars for emotional distress. Once you provide that, I'll agree to the divorce."
Kathie threw her coffee in his face. "You're shameless! You were the one who got involved with Shirley first. She drugged me, causing me to be taken advantage of by another man and become pregnant. And now you have the nerve to blame me? Fifty million dollars? How dare you!"
Randy wouldn't back down. "I don't care. No money, no divorce."
Kathie was seething when a voice behind her thundered, "I've met shameless people before, but you take it to a whole new level."
She turned to see Bradley standing there.
"Bradley? What are you doing here?" Kathie asked.
Bradley apologized to his companion and asked them to leave.
"I was discussing business with a friend when I overheard this conversation. I couldn't stay silent," Bradley replied.
Randy lifted his chin defiantly. "This is between my wife and me. It's none of your business. Unless you want to take on a divorced woman? Or perhaps you're the father of her three bastards?"
Before Kathie could stop him, Bradley lunged forward and punched Randy. She hadn't wanted to cause a scene in public.
Bradley grabbed Randy by the collar. "How can someone as despicable as you exist? Say another word like that, and I'll end you."
Randy shouted. "Everyone. look! My wife has been promiscuous, had three illegitimate children during our marriage, and now wants to divorce me for this pretty boy!"
Furious, Kathie took out an acupuncture needle and inserted it into a pressure point on Randy's body. He immediately fell silent, staring at her in terror.
Kathie sighed. "You deserve to be mute. If you dare say another word out of line, I promise you'll never speak again."
Randy nodded fearfully, well aware of Kathie's medical skills.
Kathie removed the needle and said angrily, "I am getting this divorce. If you don't agree, we'll go through legal channeIs."
Randy shook his head. "I was just upset. I truly love you. Please don't divorce me.Come back to me."
Kathie looked at him with utter contempt. "Someone like you doesn't deserve to speak of love. Get out of my sight."
