Chapter 21

Hearing Jonathan's words. Kathie felt an overwhelming urge to dunk his head in the bathtub. One moment he moved her,and the next she wanted to strangle him.

Seeing her furious glare. Jonathan cleared his throat and tried to regain his composure.

He hadn't forgotten that his life was still in the hands of this fiercewoman,Kathie.

"Tm a guy. Even if you peeked, it's no big deal. I won't hold it against you this time." Jonathan said casually.

Kathie was about to explode. He made it sound like she was some pervert spying on him.

"I'll say it again, I didn't see anything," she retorted.

"If you didn't see anything, why are you so worked up? I don't mind, so just take a good look," heteased.

Kathie was speechless.

"You soak in the tub. I'll go make you some medicine. And I'll add a few more ingredients to help you recover faster. You probably won't be able to speak for a week," Kathie said with a hint of menace.

Jonathan fell sílent.

Now he regretted provoking her. Why did he have to mess with her?

He just found it amusing to tease her and couldn't resist.

"Dr. Cavendish, I take back everything I said. You're generous and kind-

hearted. Please don't hold it against me." Jonathan pleaded.

Kathie was the first woman to make Jonathan back down.

For his own safety, he had to play along. If his old friends saw this, they'd laugh at him endlessly.

Kathie tilted her head, ignoring him. She didn't believe she couldn't handle him.

As Kathie walked out, Jonathan continued to plead, "Dr. Cavendish, you need to show some medical ethics and compassion. I'm an injured man."

Kathie had already left. Jonathan let out a long sigh, hoping she wouldn't add that bitter-tasting medicine again.

After drinking the medicine for a few days, he felt significantly better. He hadn't expected Kathie's concoctions to be so effective.

In the middle of the night, a few cat meows came from outside.

Jonathan opened his eyes, his expression displeased.

He put on his jacket, clímbed into his wheelchair, and snuck out. Under a tree ahead, a faint light signaled him. It was Ben.

Five cat meows were their secret code.

Jonathan yawned and said with a stern face, "You really know how to pick a time."

Ben sighed, "Forgive me. There are three big dogs in the yard. I didn't dare get close. During the day, Dr. Cavendish and her kids are around, so I had no chance to come over. I had to wait until night."

Jonathan knew Ben was loyal. Given the current situation, they had no other way to meet. Ben handed him a phone. "I think you should keep a phone on you. That way,we can stay in touch."

"Good idea!" Jonathan accepted it.

He usually had to coax Kyle to use a phone, which wasinconvenient.

"How's my grandfather doing?"

"Following your instructions, we told him the truth. He's very happy. To avoid suspicion, he's still staying in the hospital."

In the family, Jonathan's grandfather cared about him the most. Years ago,he had faced immense pressure to make Jonathan the heir, which many people resented.

"How's the investigation on the car?"

"Someone went to the garage that afternoon and tampered with your car.The person wore a black hood, so we couldn't see their face. We're tracking them."

"My garage is guarded 24/7. Didn't the security notice?"

"The security guard went missing that day. I found a large sum of money from an overseas account in his account. Recently, there have been signs of him abroad."

Jonathan's eyes turned cold. These people wanted him dead.

"You need to find that security guard. He's crucial. The mastermind won't let him live."

"You mean they'll silence hím."

Jonathan sneered, "Exactly. He's just a disposable pawn. They sent him abroad to deal with him quietly." Ben nodded. "Understood. I'll get people on it."

"Who's making the most noise in the family right now?"

"Your uncle Gerald Berkeley and his son. He wants your cousin Harold to take over."

Just as Jonathan suspected. Gerald was greedy and always wanted to seize the family assets. If Jonathan was out of the picture, his son Harold could take over.

"He wants Harold in charge, so he'll target the major shareholders."

Ben nodded. "Yes, he's meeting with shareholders privately, offering them more dividends to buy their shares. If he succeeds, even if you return, it'll be hard to take back the company. What should we do?"

No wonder Ben came tohim in the middle of the night. He was worried about this.

"Let him think he's winning. Contact the shareholders and have them pretend to comply, giving Gerald a chance."

"Isn't that too risky?"

"I want them to think they have everything under control. Only then will they get complacent. When they let their guard down, I'll strike."

Over the years, Jonathan had already taken control of the company. These people were just causing trouble, but they weren't a real threat. He didn't take them seriously.

"Also, tell a few directors that I'm alive. They'll help you," Jonathan added.

"Understood. I'll follow your lead,"

Jonathan was just waiting for Harold and the others to fail miserably. "By the way, why did Kathie go to see Tom today?" Jonathan asked.

"Dr. Cavendish is looking for the biological father of her children. She wants to enroll them in Elite Tots Academy, but her application was rejected. The school requires information from both parents for admission."

Jonathan frowned. "Is that a rule?"

Ben nodded. "Good private schools usually have this requirement, so Dr.Cavendish is anxious."

Jonathan thought for a moment. "Contact the school and have them waive that requirement. Let her kids enroll."

Ben hesitated. "That's not easy. If you were still around,a phone call would solve it. But now, with rumors of your death, my words might not carry weight."

Jonathan understood the harsh reality. He couldn't reveal himself yet.

Ben, though his assistant, didn't have the authority to make the school listen.

After a moment of thought, Jonathan remembered. "Keith Gray is on the school board. Have him handle it and tell him I'm alive."

Keith was a good friend. He could trust him with this.

Ben sighed in relief. "MMr. Gray is a good choice. I'll see him tomorrow."

"Seven, what are you doing outside at this hour?" Kathie's voice called from inside.

Ben quickly hid in the bushes, waving goodbye to Jonathan.

Jonathan replied, "I heard some stray cats making noise, so I came out to shoo them away." Ben was speechless.

"Come back inside. The night air is damp. You'll catch a cold," Kathie called out.

Jonathan felt a bit warm inside, but then Kathie added, "I don't want to waste money on cold medicine for you. Can't you behave and stop causing me trouble?"

Jonathan fell silent.

He was really deluding himself. How could he forget how stingy Kathie was? She just didn't want to spend money on him. When the time came,he'd have to use money to shut her up.
